Pursuant to the conduct of the Regional Literary Joust in celebration of the 85th National Book Week with the theme "lnc~·ive, Innovative, lnterconnet..1ed (Magkak~·ama, Makabago, Magkakaugnay)" on September 13, 2019 at DepEd Regional Office NEAP Building, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City, this office thru the LRMDC, in coordination with the English Learning Area Supervisor, wi11 conduct the foHowin contests on S. temher 11, 2019 at the SDO Conference Hall, Ba ombon Nueva Vizca a:

Relative to this, each district is requested to send their contestants for each category together with their designated coaches.

Certificates of Recognition and medals will be awarded to the lst, znc~ and 3nt placers and Certificates of Appreciation will likewise be given to each contestant and his/ her coach.

Attached are the rules and criteria for each contest/ category and the list of facilitators (please refer to enclosure). Flzcilitators are requested to report at the I:..RMDC on September 10, 2019 at exactly 1:00 o 'dock in the afternoon for the Complete Staff Work.

Expenses for the materials to be used as well as the meals and snacks of the evaluators/ facilitators will be charged to Division MOOE fund.

I. The DepED Regional Office No. 02 through the Curriculum and Learning Management Division (CLMD) and the Learning Resource Management and Development System (LRMDS) in partnership \\'ith the Philippine Librarians Association Inc. - Cagayan Valley Region Librarians Council (PLAI-CAVRLC), will conduct the Regional Literary Joust on September 13, 2019 at DepED Regional Office NEAP Building, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City.

2. This acti\ity is in line \vith the celebration of the 85th National Book Week. The theme for this year's celebration is "Inclusive Innovative, and Interconnected."

3. The contests are Pinoy Book Character Parade (Grade 3 or 4), Story Retdli11g (Grade 5 or 6), Essay Writing (Grade 7-12) and On-The-Spot Poster Maki11g (College students).

4. Learning Resource Management Development System (LRMDS) Supervisors, and SDO librarians shall spearhead the said contest in their respective Dh·isions.

5. Each Division is requested to send representatives together with a designated coach for every category from either public or private schools. The contest shall be competed by elementary, secondary and tertiary le,·els with specific number of participants listed below.

Objectives of the National Book Week are to:

MECHANICS AND CRITERIA FOR THE PINOY BOOK CHARACTER PARADE

I. The contest is open to Grade 3 or 4 pupils from prl\·ate and public schools in the region.

2. There shall be two contestants from each SDO. 3. Contestants " 'ill choose a book character that they are portraying and must prepare 2-

3 famous lines from their chosen Pinoy book character. 4. The criteria for judging '"ill be as follows:

MECHANICS AND CRITERIA FOR THE STORY RETELLING CONTEST:

1. The contest is open to Grade 5 or 6 pupils from pri ate and public schools in the Region.

2. There shall be only one contestant from each SDO.

3. Each contestant will be given a set of three (3) story books written in English. 4. Each contestant shall be given one hour and thirty minutes to read the story books. 5. The contestants shall retell the same story identified by the panel of judges.

5. The contestants shall reteU the same story by the panel of judges. 6. Each contestant is given 5 minutes to retell the story identified by the panel of judges. 7. The contestants are judged according to their ability to recall and retell the story read. 8. The winners shall be chosen by the panel of judges on the general criteria below.

a. STORY CONTENT - Accura'ty of recalled events, organization of events/ideas including making inference fro~ texts and accurate outlining of the sequence of e\"ents as they happened in the story.

b. MECHANICS - includes Yoice projection and expression, audience impact and level of set (-confidence.

lnnovati,·e, Interconnected. (Filipino) translation: Magkakasarna, Makabago, Magkakaugnay.

4. There will be two categories: a. Filipino b. English

5. The contestants are given one hour and a half to write their original essay at the designated venue.

6. The essay should be written in English, and Filipino not more than 300 words, handwritten.

I . The Poster Making contest is open to public and printe colleges and unh;ersities in the region Each college or university may send one (1) contestant.

2. The poster should be a visualization of the 2019 National Book Week theme: Inclusive, Innovative, Interconnected. (Filipino) translation: Magkakasama, Makabago, Magkakaugnay.

3. Contestants may use any medium (cra}-pas, water color, crayon, pentel pen etc.) and will be given two hours to finish their work.

4. Contestants \Vill bring their own art medium and white illustration board, (15 ' x 20" in size).

5. All entries will become the property ofPLAI. 6. The criteria for judging will be as follows:

a Originality- 35% b. Pictorial design and composition-IS% c. Technique- 15% d. Relevance to the theme- - 35%

Total-tOO% 7. The regional winners will receive the following prizes:
