COVID-19: Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
Port Blair, Oct. 30 Sustenance of day to day life and almostall developmental activities in the Islands arelinked with the availability of efficient anduninterrupted shipping services. Presentlyaround 150 vessels, both from the Govt. andPrivate sectors (ranging from 20 to 15000 GT)ply in the waters around Andaman andNicobar Islands maintaining thetransportation requirements for personneland essential goods from the Mainland andbetween the Islands. The availability of credible Ship RepairFacilities including dry docks is essential toensure uninterrupted shipping services. Theoperating ships need these facilities to addresstheir day to day defects, satisfactorymaintenance of hull, machinery, equipment
onboard and also for the periodical/ statutorysurvey requirements prescribed by theregulatory bodies. Considering the requirements of thepresent fleet of vessels operating, the existingship repair and dry dock facilities available inthe Islands are inadequate, leading to frequentdelays in ship repairs. The long laid up periodsfor the ships leading to reduced operationalavailability cause obvious interruptions inmaintenance of essential services. The A&N Administration has taken anumber of initiatives to mitigate the problemof inadequacy/ augment the ship repair and drydocking facilities in the A&N Islands. Theexisting graving dock in the Marine Dockyardis being extended by 90 mtrs and also theother ship repair facilities in the MarineDockyard are being modernized with the

assistance of M/s Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (CSL). Concurrently, with the efforts to augmentthe existing Government owned ship repairfacilities in the A&N Islands, efforts are alsoon to augment the dry docking capabilitythrough positioning of a suitable FloatingDry Dock (FDD) on PPP basis. The tendersfor the same were invited by the PortManagement Board (PMB) a few months agoand responses have been received. Theoffers received have also been evaluated andthe proposal is in final stage of approval bythe A&N Administration. The sea area forthis project has also been identified andearmarked by the PMB. Ms Tulika Pandey, Director, Cyber Security Division, MeitY,GOI in her key note address highlighted the measures taken byMeitY for enabling a safe & secure cyber space including framingvarious policies for protection of data, personnel information, digitalsignature, digital transaction etc. She further informed that CERT-In has operationalised Botnet and Malware Analysis Centre in Indiato provide tools/software and respond to the incident on cyberspace in real time and build strong cyber resilience to such attacksin future. Shri Jagdev Singh Yadav, SP, A&N Police elaborating on variousprovisions of Cyber Law & the IT Act, its importance for the safety& security to prevent cyber-crime, emphasised that every citizenshould be aware of these provisions of Cyber law in cyber space. Shri Satya Priyadarshi, Regional Manager, SBI highlighted aboutvarious proactive action taken by the banking sector to ensuresafe and secure digital transactions which includes OTP based cashwithdrawal above Rs 10000/- from SBI ATM card, SBI-YONOapplication etc. He urged the people never to share the user name,password and OTP etc. with anybody and that no bank ever asks toshare these over phone/ email and therefore advised to refrainfrom responding such calls / email. Shri Sendil Kumar, Scientist-C, Shri Debashish Kumar Das,Scientist-B, A&N State NIC Unit while giving an overview of thecyber safety aspects, cyber hygiene and cyber awareness for all,spoke about the importance of cyber security in our daily life &work and suggested to keep our hardware, software, antivirus etc.up-to-date to protect our precious data. Shri Zaman Akther, Sr. Consultant, E&Y made a presentationof live cyber threat landscape and informed about the category &intent of hackers, damage the hacker can make, different kinds ofattacks, root cause of evil in social engineering like unidentifiedcalls, phishing mail, Dumpster Diving and educated on the safetymeasures and handy tips for ensuring password security and othermeasures to overcome the issues. The webinar concluded with the vote of thanks by DeputySuperintendent of Police, A&N Police. The webinar was attendedby about 270 participants through YouTube, a press release fromIT Department said.

industrial units and also the Hon'ble NGTin O.A No. 593 of 2017 has issued directionsto all industrial units to establish STPs/ETPs/CETPs for treatment of sewage/trade effluent before discharging into theenvironment and to take necessary stepsfor reuse o f the treated sew age/tradeeffluent. It is to mention that there are no highlyand grossly polluting industries operatingin the UT of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.However, Hotels and Automobile ServiceCenters are the only Industries in theseIslands w hich generate ef f luent andsewage. So far, 91 captive Sewage TreatmentPlants (STPs) and 22 captive Eff luentTreatment Plants (ETPs) have beeninstalled by these Industries. The treatedwater from the Sewage Treatment Plantsis reused in gardening and cleaning andthe treated water from ETP are being usedfor cleaning the vehicles. In compliance of Section 25 of theWater (Prevent ion and Contro l o fPollution) Act, 1974 and the directions ofthe Hon'ble Supreme Court and NGT, allthe industrial units, those who have notinstalled STPs/CETPs/ETPs have beendirected to take immediate steps to set upthe STPs/ETPs/CETPs. Further, all theupcoming industries must keep theprovisions for establishment of STPs/ETPsfor the treatment of sewage/trade effluentw hich is mandatory under law. Theviolators have been issued closure noticesin the event they fail to comply with thesaid provisions. The general public havebeen informed that it is mandatory underlaw to obtain the prior 'Consent ToEstablish' from ANPCC before the industryis set up, a press release from Departmentof Science & Technology said.
