Flo Informa+on Pack
This pack belongs to:
The Flo project is for individuals who are mo+vated to change their lives and those who are commi>ed to suppor+ng them to do so. Last year it began as the MO Project, funded by Learning disability development fund. This year, 2012-‐2013, it has grown and developed into the Flo project, a part of East Sussex Commissioning strategy.
It is run by Helen Zeida and Angela Lane and works across East Sussex with people with learning disabili+es. We currently work with 11 individuals, one group and countless others who are connected through their link to the people we are working alongside.
• It’s a partnership – between us, the individuals we get to know and the people who are in their lives.
• It’s an opportunity – for individuals to explore things they might like to do, or prac+ce something they want to try, with our support for them and those around them to create the best possible condi+ons to help it along
• It’s about connec2on to others -‐ we offer links to others in the project, or to our allies, to grow social possibili+es, supply specialist input or develop crea+ve poten+al
• It’s about growing – taking the feedback from trying new things and using the learning to decide what to do next, then having a go at that too.
All it requires is a willingness to see what can happen, with people looking for the posi+ve changes that can enhance someone’s life
• Some Projects have been prac+cal -‐ like building a pond, fundraising, performances, making films, art exhibi+ons, star+ng the process of moving house..but the best bit has been individuals feeling be>er about themselves, feeling more confident, feeling more capable, making more choices and having more control….that is the heart of the project.

Flo Consent When suppor+ng someone to think about what and where personal informa+on, photographs and videos can be used we believe it is important that this is considered a process of learning and understanding of the implica+ons involved rather than comple+ng and signing a consent form. e.g. Joe has a photograph taking of him being involved in a workshop. A
tradi+onal consent procedure would involve him being given informa+on about the photograph, where this will be used and who might see it. This might be described as a procedural process.
During an informed process Joe would be supported to think about the image, use of his name and other details and the circumstances when:
ϖ It is OK to use them; ϖ when it is OK but with condi+ons; ϖ when it is OK to use them but only for a period of +me before being
consulted; and ϖ when it is absolutely not OK.
We spend +me with people to support them to think about how they want to tell their story and why, who might benefit and what they might get out of it. We work alongside them as they think about where this might be seen and heard and prac+ce what that would feel like for them.
We review consent with people as we go along and help them to feel comfortable enough to change their permission at any +me.
