I set up Pearlys in 2005 to provide a comprehensive range of

safe, effective and affordable teeth whitening treatments and

home maintenance products.

become the biggest supplier of professional teeth whitening

services in the UK – our team of highly-trained specialists now

As a great client of ours, Judy Naake – the woman who

Experience all three Pearlys retail products and whiten teeth by up to four shades. In-Clinic Power Whitening Treatment - The fastest and most effective way to whiten your teeth. The treatment includes a full consultation and comprehensive aftercare provision to ensure the best possible results are achieved each and every time. Home Whitening Kit - Bespoke trays for convenient at-home whitening. A Pearlys customised tray homekit contains clear whitening trays that are fabricated from impressions of your client’s teeth. They are expertly hand finished to exactly fit and used with the enclosed Pearlys whitening gel. Clear usage instructions and product details are included in the homekit. A Pearlys Customised Home Kit can be used as a ‘stand-alone’ treatment to gradually lift staining over two to three weeks, dependent on client’s desired shade. Alternatively it may be used as a maintenance product (perhaps on a weekly basis) to maintain results from the Pearlys In-clinic Treatment. Clients can re-order further supplies of gel through you or directly from Pearlys.

Page 10: Account Information Pack

10

In-clinic Power Whitening Treatment Appointment duration – 75 mins, including consultation (with results lasting up to 24 months). Contraindications Clients are not suitable for the Pearlys teeth whitening treatment if:

- They have any unresolved dental issues. - They are pregnant or breastfeeding - They are epileptic - They have cracked, loose or broken teeth - They have severe bleeding gums - They are unable to lie flat for up to an hour

Please note that this is a cosmetic treatment - if any client is in doubt as to their suitability we would always recommend they seek approval from their dentist first. It is also highly recommended that clients have a routine check-up prior to the treatment. PLEASE NOTE: Implants such as caps, veneers, filings and crowns are NOT tooth enamel and will only ‘whiten’ to the shade they were when initially inserted. Clients should be advised of the above information, along with the aftercare information, at the time of booking.

Page 11: Account Information Pack

11

Advantages

- Instant results - Durable outcome - Full consultation and aftercare provision

Risk Factors/Side Effects

- Possible sensitivity for up to 48 hours post treatment. Owing to the dehydration of the tooth and some mineral loss clients are more aware of hot and cold sensations.

- Possible ‘patchiness’. This is again caused by de-hydration but is not very common. Should this occur, clients are advised that up to 14 days can elapse before their teeth regain an even colouration.

- Difference in shade between teeth– this can be resolved by use of the customised homecare kit.

- Possibility of blanching to the gums. The gel leaking through to the gum can cause a stinging sensation – this should be rectified during treatment but will disappear within an hour.

Consultation Each client will be given a full consultation at their appointment. This consists of the client completing a consent form, discussing the treatment and having any questions answered. The teeth whitening specialist will also record the client’s initial teeth shade at this stage, and take the client’s homekit impressions.

Page 12: Account Information Pack

12

The treatment procedure: The client must lie prone for up to an hour whilst gently holding a cheek retractor between their teeth – this keeps their lips away from their teeth and gums. After applying a ‘gum dam’ to the gum line to reduce the likelihood of blanching, the TWS will then apply a superior desensitizer to the teeth. This reduces the amount of sensitivity the client may experience during and post- treatment. Three separate applications of a whitening gel are then applied to the teeth, and activated using a cool ‘plasma’ lamp. Clients may notice a slight tingle on the teeth during each application as the gel ‘bubbles’ during its oxidisation process - this opens the pores to the enamel on each tooth, allowing air to enter and stains to come out. To finish the treatment a final coat of desensitizer is applied to the teeth. The client’s final shade is then checked and recorded on the consent form. The client sighs their agreement to this and has the opportunity to write down any comments – good or not so good!

Page 13: Account Information Pack

13

Aftercare Clients should adhere to a STRICT clear/white diet for 48 hours following treatment. Rule of thumb - if it will stain a white silk shirt don’t put it in your mouth! Even a sip of tea through a straw will restain teeth (as indeed will smoking within 3-5 hours following the treatment!)

Page 14: Account Information Pack

14

Homekits A Pearlys customised home kit can be used in two ways:

- Maintenance - client has received the in-clinic treatment and would like to maintain or enhance results. In order to maintain the results we would recommend using the homekit once a week for 2-3 hours. This is a guide and is dependent upon the client’s oral habits i.e. if they are a smoker and/or if they consume a large quantity of coloured foods and drinks.

- Stand-alone treatment - client has not received or

was not suitable for the in-clinic treatment and wants to whiten their teeth at home. The Pearlys customised homekit will gradually lift staining over two to three weeks’ use, dependent on the client’s initial and desired shade.

Page 15: Account Information Pack

15

Advantages

- Cost-effective - the client is in control of their results and will only need to re-order whitening gel as desired

- Convenient for people who have little ‘me’ time - Suitable for clients who may be uncomfortable lying

prone for any length of time. - Customisable - client may have different grades of

yellow/white teeth so can ‘design’ their own smile - Suitable for some clients unsuited to in-clinic

treatment i.e. epileptics - Minimal risks/side effects

Risks Factors/Side Effects

- Possible ‘slight’ sensitivity – use of sensitive toothpaste applied topically to teeth prior to treatment can help.

Page 16: Account Information Pack

16

Helping clients to take their own impressions This should take up to 30 minutes, allowing time to complete the client consent form and give usage instructions. Should your client have highly sensitive teeth we would recommend use of the sodium perborate whitening gel. However, most clients are suitable for use of the 16% Carbomide Peroxide. Ensure you tick the box to indicate the desired gel and have your client sign as appropriate on the paperwork. What is needed:

- signed consent form - dental putty (and scoops) - impression trays - disposable gloves - re-sealable food bag (labelled is better) - tissue

Impression Process: Prepare the dental putty, scoops and trays, and put on a fresh pair of gloves. Lay the impressions trays on tissues. Scoop out a flat scoop of both the base putty and the catalyst putty. Do not begin to mix the two colours of putty together until you are ready, as they will begin to set. (Putty can set within 2-5 minutes – the setting time will be on the tub).

Page 17: Account Information Pack

17

Flatten each piece of putty into a small disc shape in each hand. When you are ready begin to mix them together between your fingers and thumbs. You have about 60 seconds to ensure that the putty is mixed well, forming a solid colour with no white bits.

When the putty is a solid colour roll it between the flats of your hands into a ‘sausage’ shape spanning the width of your palm.

Page 18: Account Information Pack

18

Put the ‘sausage shape’ putty into the upper tray and flatten down slightly.

Hand the tray to your client. Once you hand the tray to your client please do not touch the tray again. You are NOT allowed to assist, place or take trays out of the client’s mouth as this would then be deemed a ‘dental’ treatment. Instruct them to place the tray into their mouth. When their teeth are positioned in the middle of the dental putty instruct them to push up, using both thumbs, until they feel the putty touch their gums. Ask your client to gently keep the tray in place until you tell them to take it out. (Hand them some tissues in case they dribble!) Allow up to a minute and a half for the putty to harden sufficiently then ask them to gently lower the tray out and check for a clear and deep impression across the entire arch - scallop like shapes along the top of the putty give a clear indication that the impression is adequate.

Page 19: Account Information Pack

19

Repeat the whole process again for the lower trays. Leave the impressions for around 10 minutes to allow the putty time to fully set and dry. Place the impressions in a zip-lock bag, along with the client’s consent form and ensure the client’s name, your business name, and the date of the treatment is written clearly on the bag, ready for posting to the Pearlys Laboratory. Provided that you return the impressions to the lab promptly, the client should receive their completed homekit within 7-10 days.

A good impression will be even with little to no tearing, capturing the whole of the tooth and its arch.

Advice for clients regarding homekits Full usage instructions are included in the homekit. However, you may wish to give clients the following guidance at the time of their treatment.

- The whitening gel is to be kept in the fridge to maintain its shelf life. With proper care the gel should retain its efficacy for up to two years.

- A small amount of gel (no bigger than a match-head) should be dispensed into each tooth compartment within the tray – each syringe of whitening gel should be enough for about 8 applications.

- The tray should never be overfilled with whitening gel, as this may lead to overspill.

- Any gel touching the gums should be wiped away with a tissue or cotton bud to avoid gum irritation.

- Foods or drinks that would stain a white shirt should be avoided for the 12 hours following the use of the homekit. The best time to use the homekit is after dinner or before bed.

- If using the homekit for maintenance (ie no more than once a week) best results are achieved if the Pearlys Brighten Powder is used prior to using the homekit.

Page 21: Account Information Pack

21

Clients are directed to use the whitening gel in the following fashion: - Brush teeth. Remove the syringe cap and insert an

application tip by twisting it securely onto the

syringe.

- Place a small drop of gel into every compartment of

the tray for the teeth undergoing treatment.

- Seat the tray around the teeth.

- Wipe away excess gel in mouth with a tissue or dry

soft brush.

- Leave trays in place for 2-3 hours

- After treatment, remove tray. Rinse tray and mouth

with lukewarm water.

- Brush teeth.
