“Lodge Cast Iron has finally made its way to Poor Farmers; a place

where it will be appreciated, loved, and cared for, then placed over a raging fire with scalding hot charcoals

on top of it.”

Lodge Cast Iron has been making quality

cookware in Tennessee since 1896,

which is almost as old as Dean. The

company has been making a quality

American made product ever since. In

2002, Lodge revolutionized the industry

by making foundry seasoned cookware.

The cookware is showered with vegetable

oil and baked at a high temperature so

that it comes to your home seasoned and

ready to use.

After being sold all over the world, Lodge

Cast Iron has finally made its way to Poor

Farmers; a place where it will be

appreciated, loved, and cared for, then

placed over a raging fire with scalding hot

charcoals on top of it.

Now at Poor Farmer’s:

Lodge Cast Iron Cookware The Dutch oven treats that I have been

exposed to in recent days have made

me an instant fan of Lodge Cast Iron

cookware. Now I know why they always

show gold at the end of the rainbow in a

cast iron pot. To be perfectly honest

with you, if I were to find the treasure at

the end of the rainbow and it happened

to be Brownie Pudding Cake* in the

pot, I wouldn’t be one bit upset.

Be sure to get into the parts store to

get your Lodge Cast Iron in time for the

Dutch oven carry-In on June 16th. Don’t

wait till the last minute; get it now so

you have time to practice.

*Brownie Pudding Cake can be found on Page 72

of the “Field Guide to Dutch Oven Cooking” By

Lodge Press and may be purchased in Parts

Store.

Poor Farmer’s Opening Weekend: Get the scoop on the Big Announcement from Steve and Patty

April 28th marked the beginning of a new camping season for all of us here at Poor Farmers. The big shelter was alive where we played host to the 18th Annual Poor Farmer’s Friendship Rally. We had Hamburgers on Thursday, chicken noodles on Friday, and pork chops on Saturday. After dinner on Saturday night, Steve and Patty made the announcement that the weekend of April 26-28, 2013 will be the 20th anniversary of the date they purchased the business from Steve’s father, Carl. For the anniversary celebration, Steve and Patty

will be hosting the first ever Poor Farmer’s SUPER RALLY! The Super Rally includes free camping all weekend, at least one free dinner, entertainment, and a fireworks display. You will get the privilege of watching the mortgage go BOOM! On the night of the 27th we will have the drawing to see who wins the Holland grill (see sidebar for details). This SUPER RALLY is Steve & Patty’s way of saying “Thank You” to all of you who helped make Poor Farmers what it is today. Plus, we get to have a great time with our friends. See you at the RALLY!

Larry & Kathy Brandyberry

Charlie’s Chat

For those of you who are worried about the criminal element intruding onto the campground and causing trouble, we have the solution… her name is Andrea Lane. Andrea is a crack shot with any rifle or pistol you give her. How did she get so good you ask, well that is due to a short period of instruction by Shelby County’s finest, Larry Brandyberry. How is it that I spent four years in the Marine Corps training to take out terrorists and other national threats, and after only one lesson with Larry, Andrea is a better shot than me? He’s good! Larry has been a Shelby County Sheriff Deputy for 18 years. He works as a corrections officer and supervises a crew of four prisoners that conduct community service around Sidney. Larry and Kathy have been camping at Poor Farmers for six years. They come out most weekends and every once in a while their two grandchildren, Tyler and

Maryssa get to go camping with them. Larry is always there to lend a hand with getting units to the shows and delivering units that get sold. He and Kathy are also great representatives for Poor Farmers because they enjoy their time here and the other campers that are around them. Other than being a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather; Larry is also a dedicated neighbor. He is always willing to help mow lawns, wash campers or any other odd job that his neighbors may need done. So if you need any sort of manual labor done with your site, Larry is always willing to lend a hand or just do the entire chore for you so you can sit and sip on some sweet tea while watching from your porch. Of course I am kidding, Larry comes to Poor Farmers to relax just like the rest of you, but it is because he is such a good guy that I

can joke like that. There are a number of people at this campground that play a part in its success, Larry and Kathy are decorated members of that crew. Therefore, if you see Larry and Kathy cruising around in their candy cane topped golf cart, make sure you let them know how much you appreciate all that they do for Poor Farmers; just leave the honey-do list at home, he’s probably busy sipping sweet tea on his porch. Kidding again… Kathy has her own list for him.

Charlie’s Chat is a monthly installment in The Monthly Chatter which

honors Charlie Ellis. Charlie was a friend to many and one of the hardest

working employees to ever grace the gravel roads of Poor Farmer’s.

This month’s “Site of the Month” goes to Denny & Jacque Shoenleben on Lot #86. Denny and Jacque work very hard to keep their site as beautiful as possible. Their site includes well landscaped gardens, bushes, a pink flamingo, and enough lights to land a jumbo jet (don’t believe me, check it out after sunset). Their centerpiece is a gorgeous Coachmen Catalina travel trailer. The best new addition to Mr. and Mrs. Shoenleben’s site is their new neighbors Mr. and Mrs. Shoenleben. Wrap your head around that riddle. Okay, it’s Denny’s Mom & Dad, Gene and Marylin. Congratulations Denny and Jacque on earning the right to claim the highest award possible from The Monthly Chatter.

I think it’s done Greg!

($5.00/person) Be sure to attend the Poor Farmers Corn hole Tournament

for a chance to win a set of custom made “Poor Farmers RV” corn hole boards. There will also be a raffle for a second set of boards (look for boards to be on display in the parts store

soon). We will need some corn hole boards to use for the

tournament if anyone has a set.

Dutch Oven Carry-In June 16th, 2012 5:30PM @ Big Shelter

After the Corn hole Tournament, there will be a Dutch Oven Carry-In. I want as many people to attend this event as possible so that you can get an idea of what kind of delicious dishes you

are able to prepare with a cast iron Dutch oven. If you don’t have a Dutch oven it is ok; just bring in a dish anyway and come taste some of the goodness that comes from old fashioned cast iron

cookware. (Remember to bring table service) Lodge Cast Iron cookware available in Poor Farmers parts store

Recipe for Brownie Pudding Cake can be

found on Pg. 72 of “The Field Guide to

Dutch Oven Cooking”.

Free Wi-Fi in Big Shelter Poor Farmers has turned the main shelter into a high tech internet café, minus the high priced coffee and modern deco. Anyone needing to gain access to the internet can take their laptop to the shelter and log into the Poor Farmers Wi-Fi. Poor Farmers is not responsible for computers that crash due to sudden impact with a baseball bat.
