IN THE LAND OF THE LIVING SKIES,

Richardson lighting is a name almost as

well-known as saskatchewan’s provincial

motto. in 2017, the store that’s become

famous for service, savings and selection

will be celebrating 50 years of keeping

saskatchewan’s lights on! and to help

celebrate, the company is hosting a

warehouse sale, multiple customer

appreciation events and participating in

Regina’s annual spring home show.

so please come down to our store and

help us celebrate—browsing isn’t only

allowed, it’s encouraged!

WHAT WE DORichardson lighting is a wholesale, retail lighting and electrical

supply company with an unparalleled product line and a location

in both Regina and saskatoon. Richardson customers are

homeowners, home builders, interior designers, and electrical and

commercial contractors. the store also provides commercial sales

to areas such as Moose Jaw, estevan, weyburn and swift current—

catering to commercial and electrical contractors in those areas—

specifically in retail development, hotels and restaurants.

Richardson’s is synonymous with unique and innovative lighting

and offers the largest selection in the province at very competitive

pricing. the store also houses an enormous inventory of light

bulbs—with leds, cFls, hids, halogen and incandescent in every

shape and size imaginable!

at Richardson’s, no order is too large or too small. the company

boasts the same enthusiastic service for a small parts order as it

does for a house full of lights. and the store’s knowledgeable staff is

what truly sets it apart from the big box stores.

with a full time delivery service, Richardson’s ensures that they are

looking after the needs of local contractors, home builders and local

businesses. the delivery service gives them the ability to quickly

respond to any problems customers might have—such as broken

glass, missing parts or a fixture that simply may have been missed. SOME SERVICE SPECIALTIESat Richardson’s, the repair shop is kept busy

altering, adjusting, rewiring and repairing fixtures for

customers. store experts can turn that vase into a

table lamp, or rewire and repair antique light fixtures

and lamps of every kind. our most popular fixes are

antique torchieres.

EARLY BEGINNINGSBy 1967, ernie Richardson had gained celebrity status

as the skip who took the curling Richardsons to four

world championships. at the urging of friends he took

that same determination that had worked so well on the

ice to starting his own building supply company, selling

items such as Pella windows and sliding doors. But ernie

quickly realized there was a big demand for specialty

lighting products in the commercial and residential

sectors. and as Richardson’s reputation for honesty and

market knowledge grew, so did the need for more space.

in 1973, the entire store was moved from its original

location at 1431 scarth street to 2460-7th avenue. and

after nine years, once again the entire lock, stock and

lighting barrel was moved to the store’s present location

at 2101-7th avenue. in his own words, ernie will tell

you that he’s had good fortune in many areas in life but

is especially grateful for his common sense approach

to business. Reinvesting in the business by purchasing

properties in which the stores are housed gave the

company far-reaching assets beyond its inventory alone.

individual customers and large contractors depend

on receiving personalized service and expert advice,

knowing that a fair return and repair policy backs

every purchase at Richardson’s. and although ernie is

extremely proud of his store’s phenomenal growth over

the years, he’s especially proud of the old-fashioned

philosophies of honest pricing and unbeatable service

that continue to prevail at Richardson lighting.

the store has not only survived but prospered during

the influx of big box stores and large retail spaces.Pendants by Artcraft - Linear Chandelier by Cal, Authentic Developments, Red Mix Creative

PEOPLE POWERat Richardson’s, the company is just as interested in its

employees as its paying customers. Most staff are long-

term employees—which allows the more experienced

employees to pass on their well-honed knowledge and

wisdom—as well as form long-lasting relationships with

clients.

Just as every team has its star players, ernie credits past

and present partners and staff of Richardson lighting in

Regina and saskatoon, with significantly contributing to

the company’s success.

THE SECRETS TO OUR SUCCESSthere are plenty of reasons for Richardson

lighting’s success but most will agree that

a commitment to providing customers with

eXcePtional service—whether they’re

homeowners, interior designers, contractors

or home builders—has clearly been one of

the reasons for its longevity. the company’s

team of lighting experts always take the time

to ensure you are getting the best advice

that suits yoU and yoUR layout so we can

design the home lighting of yoUR dreams!

Richardson lighting’s unparalleled

selection also provides a range of choices

in residential lighting from today’s top

manufacturers—including chandeliers,

decorative lighting, bathroom, wall, hallway

and bedroom fixtures, track lighting,

recessed lighting, fans and landscape

lighting. in addition, Richardson’s provides

commercial lighting expertise for virtually

any kind of project—including hotels,

schools, restaurants, strip malls and

professional buildings.

Richardson’s opens its doors at its first location at

1431 scarth street in Regina. the scarth location featured a

2000-square foot building and a 400 square foot showroom.

First employees were ernie Richardson, vern vallevand

(later to become a partner) and Robbie Brown.

don Richardson, ernie’s son, joins the business, bringing

with him his experience as a Journeyman electrician.

soon after, ward lorenz joins the company, first working in

the warehouse and later playing a key role in the success of

the saskatoon store.

ernie buys a former skating rink on

the corner of 7th avenue and scarth

street, knowing that the business

would eventually need a larger

showroom and more warehouse space.

this decision eventually leads to the

construction of the Regina store’s

current location at 2101-7th avenue.

the two saskatoon stores are consolidated, leading to a major

renovation and expansion of the current 47th street location.

the expansion includes 14,000 square-feet with a 6000 square- foot

showroom—the largest in saskatchewan and what many people

consider one of the nicest showrooms in western canada.

The team at Richardson

Lighting Regina are absolutely

AMAZING!!! Twice they

literally worked miracles by

making the parts I needed for

my light fixtures. Ed from the parts department

and all the customer service staff were very

helpful and were genuinely going out of their way

to get me what I wanted. I highly recommend this

place. Value for money and great people to boot...

– Marjorie Baggo-Murray

Richardson Lighting went way above and beyond

to help me out recently. I had purchased a floor

lamp with an attached reading light on an arm. The

lamp suffered a fall. Nothing broke, but soon after

the reading light did not work. Richardson’s looked

at it and determined that the dimmer switch was a sealed unit and

irreparable. I now had a floor lamp / piece of art. Richardson’s contacted

the manufacturer, it was about 1.5 years old, and had it replaced.

I cannot thank Richardson’s enough - the time and energy given was

exceptional. I will certainly be a repeat customer. Thank you again.
