The Fiskars Summer FestivalWelcome message from Conductor and LEAD! Foundation’s Artistic Director Jukka-Pekka Saraste

When visiting Fiskars village recently, I was immediately inspired to organise a mentoring event in its wonderfully creative atmosphere. The feeling here, contributed in great part by its resident artists and craftsmen, is one of energy and innovation, and that is going to inspire our young musicians and mentors.

2020 marks the inaugural year for our Lead! Foundation Academy, and arranging the Fiskars Festival in the context of the current global pandemic has been both challenging and insightful. Our focus now is primarily to help young conduc-tors and soloists to learn more about their profession, but also to create a hub to which they can return, and keep in contact with mentors and their colleagues.

Jorma Panula has made an immense contribution to Finnish conducting and, to me, organising this masterclass so close to his 90th birthday symbolises a continuity from one generation to the next.
