Thank you.
Pastor Pam’s Ponderings. . . As we expected, we are being generous in
our giving to UMCOR for hurricane recovery efforts. Remember the most
effective way to give is through UMCOR for all natural disasters. We are
designating our quarter tube donations for flood buckets and health kits. You
can also bring items for those to Averitt Hall.
God provides us with such abundance, it is a joy to know that He can
expect us to share with others. Let us continue to consider how we can walk
the Way which God has laid out for us. How else can we intentionally show
our neighbors the mercy and grace of God? How else can we share the Good
News of the salvation life we enjoy in Jesus Christ.
Let us be faithful in all we do and say and are so that God may be
known by all His children!
Changes. Ah, yes. We resist change don’t we? The ecclesiastic
jokes run the gamut—How many United Methodists does it take to
change a light bulb? Change? What’s wrong with it!
Sometimes we don’t understand the reasons for changes. I
am committed to our congregation being fully informed especially
about change. So, we are now ready to implement fully our adopted
Safe Sanctuary policy. This policy which has been adopted for
several years by the Charge Conference is designed to protect all persons who
use our facility or participate in our programs. For example, the policy
requires that children, youth, and vulnerable adults be supervised (or taught)
by two adults. That means that on the bus or van, the driver has to have
another adult.
It also requires that our building be as secure as possible. One of the
steps we took last year locked all outside entrances during the week excepting
the courtyard and back parking lot entrances for weekday entry. It was a
change but we’ve adapted.
Now we take another safety step. We shall lock all inside doors. That
is, all rooms, including the sanctuary and chapel, shall be locked when not in
use. The intention of all this locking up is to keep people safe when we are in
the building. These locked doors do not restrict our use of the building. When
you need to use a room, one of the staff will give you the right key to unlock
the room you need.
We want to do all we can during the week to ensure the safety of our
Child Development Center children as they use Peace Hall. To do so, we
need to keep the kitchen locked during the day.
If you have any questions, please talk with me. There may be issues
we have overlooked; as they are brought to our attention, we shall address
them.
Shalom, Pastor Pam Estes
