BS EN 1154 classifies mechanical door closers under the
following categories: Category of use 2 grades Durability 2 grades
Door mass 7 grades Fire resistance 2 grades Safety 1 grade
Corrosion resistance 5 grades BS EN 1154 states that door closers
with a minimum power rating of 3 should be used on a fire door.
Accessible doors as defined in BS 8300 (amended 2005) should
require no more than 30 N force to open. Manufacturers will often
mention efficiency as a benchmark for quality.
