R/Principal’s Report
Welcome to Week 10 Term 2.
Welcome to the last week of what has been an
extremely busy term. This Friday Amanda Lyons returns
to school. I’m sure that she will return with many
exciting stories from her overseas trip. I would like to
take this opportunity to thank you, the staff and the
students for the warm welcome I have received whilst
working here. I have enjoyed meeting you all and
working in your fantastic school. Have a wonderful
holiday. School will resume for students on Tuesday the
19th of July.
Bowling Club Raffles
Last Friday the Bowling Club held their monthly raffles
and we were the lucky recipients of the proceeds. As a
result the Bowling Club has donated $901 to our school.
This is a fantastic amount and will be put to good use
within the school supporting our students. We would
like to thank the Bowling Club for their continued
support of our school and to all the families who
donated raffle prizes.
P&C Meeting
Tonight the P&C will hold their monthly meeting in the
staffroom at 7pm. Everyone is most welcome to attend.
It is a fantastic way to contribute to your child’s
schooling, share your ideas and a great way to meet
new people. Please come along.
Reports Today reports will be sent home. Reports should arrive home in a sealed envelope. If you would like to make an appointment to speak to your child’s teacher about their report please contact the office to arrange a mutually agreeable time. MKG Soup Fundraiser
Tomorrow we will be having a MKG Soup day in order
to raise funds for our Kitchen/Garden program. The
students have been extremely busy getting everything
prepared. Delicious pumpkin soup and a roll will be
available for purchase for $2:50. Many thanks to Miss
Hughes for all her organisation. And to all those families
who have donated items or their time to assist with this
fundraiser.

Permission notes
Starting from today all permission notes that need to be
returned to school will be on BLUE paper. The blue
colour will hopefully assist in reminding people that
blue bounces back. As you can imagine schools can be
very busy places with students engaged in many and
varied activities that may take them off school
premises. In order for students to participate,
permission must be sought. This is a legal requirement.
In order to assist with organisation, permission notes
must be returned no later than the day before the
event, so as to not add extra pressure on to the office
or teaching staff who can spend hours making phone
calls and trying to contact parents. Students without
written consent the day prior to the excursion will be
unable to attend. Thank you for your assistance in this
matter.
CWA Country of Study
On Tuesday evening Yr4/3T will be hosting the Monthly
CWA meeting in their classroom as they have invited
the ladies to hear their presentations on Mongolia. The
students have chosen to research Mongolia as part of
their Geography studies. Mongolia has also been the
country of study for the Murray Hut Branch of the CWA.
Year 4/3T is very excited to be sharing their knowledge
of Mongolia with their parents and the members of the
CWA.
NAIDOC Day
On Friday all students will be participating in NAIDOC
day activities to celebrate and acknowledge Indigenous
history and culture. The day will begin at 9am with the
students working in multi age groups and rotating
through 5 different activities. These activities include
dance, cooking, art, games and music. Assembly will be
held at 12:30.
Absences
If you know that your child will be absent from school
due to an appointment could you please let office staff
know prior to the appointment. If your child is ill and
won’t be attending school, could you please ring the
school office on 58 831 135 from 8:30 am. A quick call
to explain the absence alleviates follow up paperwork
at a school level. All students with an unexplained
absence will be contacted by the school office.
Finley Basketball
Last Friday we had members from Finley Basketball
speak to the students about the ‘Aussie Hoops’ Program
that will commence in Term 3 on Wednesday
afternoons from 3:30 to 5:30. It is anticipated that there
will be 2 sessions to cater for 2 different age groups and
each session will run for 1hr. This program is a modified
basketball program along the lines of Auskick and
Netta, that will suit students from Kinder to Year 6.
Students that were interested were given information
packs, these signed information packs need to be
returned to school no later than Wednesday 29th if
students wish to participate.
Peer Instructed Sports Session
On Thursday the students from Yr4 to 6 will be
participating in a Peer Instructed Sports session that will
be run by Mr McCarney and his Year 10 P.E class from
Finley High. The students will rotate through 4 different
activities between recess and lunch. The participating
students will then get to have a sausage sizzle for lunch
with their peer sports leaders. This sausage sizzle is
being provided at no cost to our students by the Finley
High School students. This will be a fantastic
opportunity for our students to learn some new skills
and build some friendships with students from the high
school.

Naidoc Day at Finley Public School
Friday 1st July 2016
The whole school will be celebrating NAIDOC day this Friday,
with a day of activities designed to promote awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander culture and history. The 2016 theme represented in this year’s
poster is: “Songlines: The Living narrative of Our Nation. Dreaming Tracks, or songlines,
crisscross Australia and trace the journeys of our ancestral spirits as they created the
land, animals and lores”.
School Banking
Our Dollarmite Promotion has finished and the winner will be drawn this week. There
may even be some additional draws made.... Will you be the lucky ones?
We have two items that are now OUT OF STOCK - the Mudsplat Handball and the Flying Snake Tail are no longer available.
There are quite a few bankers with well
over 15 tokens - don't forget to send in your reward request before other items run out.
Term 3 will see two new rewards added - Backtrack Eraser Pen and a Jump and Skip
Rope.
The Dollarmites have also discovered Prize Lights in the Outback sky. Flyers will be in
your wallets this week with the details. Magazine packs, camping kits, instant
cameras. An online activity will put you in the running for a PlayStation 4 pack.
Have a safe holiday and we will see you
back next term.
Thanks. Debbie

Newsletter Distribution
As most of you would be aware our newsletter went paperless last year!
This means that students would not receive a paper copy of the newsletter unless a request had been made via phone or in
writing to the office by the parent/carer.
In the first 2 terms we have had a high number of students asking for a paper copy.
The newsletter is emailed to those on the emailing list and uploaded to the school website each Monday afternoon. This
means significant cost and time savings for the school.
So we need your help to once again get
back to being paperless. We also need to update the newsletter emailing list with our new families and
remove those who have left.
Each family will receive a form today on BLUE for you to update your email address
details. Please complete and return to school as soon as possible to ensure you
continue to receive the newsletter via your nominated preference.
If you do not return the form you will need to access the school website as per the web
address below to view the school newsletter.
http://www.finley-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/
All current email addresses in our system will be deleted at the end of term.
We thank you for your help with this matter and if you have any queries please contact
the office to discuss them.
