FINEPRINT 2020 April 2020 #404 Hastings Valley Fine Art Association Inc. PO Box 8044 Port Macquarie 2444 www.hastingsvalleyart.net.au Email : [email protected] Closure of our Gallery It was a sad day indeed when Bernice and I closed the gallery and walked away at 4 p.m. on Wednesday 18 March. No doubt our gallery has meant many things to many people over the years and for me, when I landed here nearly 4 years ago, it was the centre of grounding for me in a new community. Friendships were forged in my new art family and I am sure it has been the same for many over the years. Our gallery will reopen - there will be lots of chat and laughter at GAGS again, our activities will resume and visitors will come in to see the new artworks which we will have created during its closure. Before the 18 March, sales had been bubbling along very nicely. Between the beginning of February and 18 March there were 13 sales. Artists were: Jen Andrews (2), Janet Burke, Anne Falkner (3), Lyn Thomas (3), Eve Baumgart, Fred Bullen, Elva Henderson and David Nichols. The current restrictions of course mean the gallery changeover cannot take place on 14 April. As Bernice has mentioned in her report, the gallery is checked daily but if you wish to collect your paintings at any time during the closure, please give me a call on 0413779235 to arrange a time for collection. In the meantime, please take care, stay safe and stay well. Trish Cameron On behalf of our Gallery Team. Presidents Report - April 2020 Welcome all to our Fineprint conversation for this month. It is a different world to the one we faced four weeks ago and I hope all our members are doing well and staying safe. As you all know, we have had to stop our normal activities and get togethers. For those who still have work at our gallery, I can assure you they are safe and sound with Trish checking the gallery each day. At this stage we will not be having a changeover in April but we will keep you posted as we all learn about the future. We are working closely with the Mid North Coast Maritime Museum to make our way through this situation, and I thank them for the support they have shown to us as an organisation. It is important though that we maintain contact with everyone and Fineprint will continue each month. We have also formed a few Messenger groups – this operates through facebook and allows us to chat and post photos of work privately within the group. We have one group stemming from our Paint Out Pals group and one stemming from our Gallery Art Group. All members can join either of these groups if you are on facebook. If you are interested in joining, contact one of the committee and we will guide you through it. We are setting a weekly challenge for the GAGS group – starting each Friday with a show and tell sometime before the following Wednesday. Some of the results are included in this newsletter. It is indeed a difficult time for us all and I’m sure you are all concerned for family members who may be vulnerable or those who have lost employment. Its scary for us all and we don’t want any of our members losing opportunities or interest in art throughout this period. I was talking to Bridget Purtill at the Glasshouse this week and they are still aiming to host our Food for Thought exhibition in October. I’m sure the current situation is providing everyone with plenty of inspiration for this one. Welcome to our two additions to our HVFAA committee. We look forward to your input.

- Robert Reid who rejoins the committee after a break.

And Francesca Bate who joined our Association last August.

Member News: Hope everyone is well. Lots of our members will be missing our regular activities and the chance to socialise with our art family. Bernice has mentioned the Facebook challenges that are keeping our members painting and in contact through their art. It is very important to keep to our routines as much as we possibly can whilst keeping ourselves safe from contagion. Stay informed, but please ensure you don’t become overwhelmed by the constant focus by the media. Catching up with some jobs around the place, finishing your painting and craft projects and learning some new skills all give us a chance to maintain our positivity. There are a lot of on-line activities apart from art, such as gym classes, etc which can keep us active and alert. We are very fortunate indeed at this unusual time to have social media at our disposal. Physical isolation does not mean we cannot communicate with our friends and loved ones. Art Orders deadline is 16 April, contact [email protected]. Terri has said she will organise an order if she gets enough to make it worthwhile. Any Port orders will need to be picked up from her front porch, not the gallery Maria Nolan Editor
