FINCANTIERI MARINE GROUP AWARDED MULTIPLE SAFETY AWARDS Green Bay, May 29 2014 ‐ Recently, Fincantieri Marine Group, the United States subsidiary of FINCANTIERI S.p.A. the largest shipbuilder in the Western world, was awarded multiple safety awards for their three shipyards based in Wisconsin: Bay Shipbuilding Corporation (“BSC” in Sturgeon Bay), Ace Marine (“ACE” in Green Bay) and Marinette Marine Corporation (“MMC” in Marinette). The Awards ceremony, held on May 1 st in Washington D.C., was to recognize leaders in safety throughout the United States ship repair, construction and conversion industry. Amongst the awards given, BSC, MMC and ACE received the “Award for Improvement in Safety” and Marinette also received the “Safety Excellence Award”. To receive the Improvement in Safety Award, the facility must reduce their Recordable Injury Rate by 10% or greater. Both BSC and MMC reduced their 2013 Incident Rates by over 45%, and ACE reduced their Incident Rate by over 20%. MMC’s additional award, the Safety Excellence Award, recognizes ship yards who’s Recordable Incident Rate was lower than the Ship Builders Council of America average of 4.7. On hand to accept the award for the Fincantieri Marine Group were Jeff Freeman, Vice President of Business Development and Tom Carow, the Environmental Safety and Health Manager for BSC and ACE. Mark Garrett, the Director of Health and Safety Services for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers was also on hand during the reception. These awards directly reflect the hard work and dedication of the hundreds of Fincantieri employees that strive each day to work safely, in a profession that requires unrelenting attention from workers and managers alike.
