StrengthsStrong brand value and recognition give Whirlpool a distinctive advantage in the market from its competitors.

Relatedness of the statement

As of 1998, Whirlpool Corporation claimed to be the world’s leading manufacturer of major home appliances. The company manufactured in thirteen countries and marketed its products under eleven major brand names to over 140 countries. The brand name became well known in America, Europe and Asia and it was the strength of Whirlpool. Whirlpool will lead to continued improvement in the operating performance in 1998 and beyond, especially as we manage through a difficult market and economic environment. In 1989, Whirlpool Corporation (Whirlpool) embarked on an ambitious global expansion with the objective of becoming the world market leader in home appliances. In Asia the industry was highly fragmented, consisting ofmanufacturers primarily from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Matsushita, the market leader, held less than10% market share outside Japan.

Justification

Strong brand name helps to increase margins by charging premium prices for goods, because customers perceive a higher standard of quality from companies with strong brands. A strong brand name may also help to support the stock price, because people will associate a strong brand with a strong stock. Approximately 120 million home appliances are sold in developed countries each year. The appliance industry is generally classified into four categories: laundry, refrigeration, cooking, and other appliances. Appliances are constructed in capital intensive plants, and design usually varies among countries and regions.

Product Demand

Product demand is a consumer's desire and willingness to pay a price for a specific good or service. Demand refers to how much (quantity) of a product or service is desired by buyers. The quantity demanded is the amount of a product people are willing to buy at a certain price; the relationship between price and quantity demanded is known as the demand relationship. In marketing, a product is anything that can be offered to a market that might satisfy a want or need. In retailing, products are called merchandise. In manufacturing, products are purchased as raw materials and sold as finished goods. Commodities are usually raw materials such as metals and agricultural products, but a commodity can also be anything widely available in Whirlpool in the open market. In project management, products are the formal definition of the project deliver Whirlpool’s that make up or contribute to delivering the objectives of the project. In insurance, the policies are considered products offered for sale by the insurance company that created the contract

Justification: why this is under this model:

Proper branding can result in higher sales of not only one product, but on other products associated with that brand. For example, if a customer loves Pillsbury biscuits and trusts the brand, he or she is more likely to try other products offered by the company such as chocolate chip cookies. Brand is the personality that identifies a product, service orcompany and how it relates to key constituencies: customers, staff, partners, investors etc. With an increasing rate of urbanization and significant growth of the targetpopulation for beer and rise in average income, the market continues to grow. Many international Home appliances have already entered the market and many others continue to enter every day. Hence they are becoming one their potential together increases the reach of the company.

Whirlpool has a strong financial backup which help it to support strong financial ventures

Relatedness of the statement

Whirlpool takeover Philips in 1989; N.V. Philips, a struggling Dutch appliance operation, and then purchased the remaining equity in 1991 for a total of $1.1 billion, the second largest Home appliance maker in Dutch at and expanded operation in different sides of the country. This shows how financially solvent the company is. Financial solvency means that the company can meets its long-term fixed expenses. Companies that are financially insolvent are heading towards bankruptcy or are already in bankruptcy proceedings. As Whirlpool took over Philips, Kelvinator of India etc we can say that they already have strong financial back up.

Justification:

Home appliances in the global market havea huge demand, though the market is almost saturated with different companies. In 1989, Whirlpool bought a major stake in N.V. Philips, a struggling Dutch appliance operation, and then purchased the remaining equity in 1991 for a total of $1.1 billion. Thus it is obvious even though they are suffering loss they have strong financial back up to restructure the company.

Financial Resource

Financial resource is that fund and backbone of the company which it can endure for funding the expansion or contraction of the company .Achieving these goals requires projecting what they will cost, and when you need to withdraw funds. A major risk to the household in achieving their accumulation goal is the rate of price increases over time, or inflation. Using net present value calculators, the financial planner will suggest a combination of asset earmarking and regular savings to be invested in a variety ofinvestments. In order to overcome the rate of inflation, the investment portfolio has toget a higher rate of return, which typically will subject the portfolio to a number of risks. Managing these portfolio risks is most often accomplished using asset allocation, which seeks to diversify investment risk and opportunity. The allocation should also take into consideration the personal risk profile of every investor, since risk attitudes vary from person to person.

Justification: why this is under this model:

Another business decision concerning finance is investment, or fund management. An investment is an acquisition of an asset in the hope that it will maintain or increase its value. In investment management – in choosing a portfolio – one has to decide what, how much and when to invest. To do this, a company must identify relevant objectives and constraints institution or individual goals, time horizon, risk aversion and tax considerations identify the appropriate strategy active versus passive hedging strategy. Measure the portfolio performance. Many international Home appliances have already entered the market and many others continue to enter every day. Hence they are becoming one their potential player increases the reach of the company.

The Cost cutting ability of Whirlpool provides better position in the global market than those of the other competitors.

Relatedness of the Statement

Whirlpool was able to cut costs in Europe by reducing the number of suppliers it dealt with and by using common parts in its appliances. Definitely it was strength for Whirlpool, because this ability helped them a lot to reduce cost significantly. Besides the ability to cut out the workforces and maintaining the same level of production shows that this company is strong enough to reduce the cost significantly.

Justification: of the Statement:

Page 7: Final Swot and Hr Chllanges

Whirlpool is a big investor globally. Thus to grab market like Asia or China it must keep the cost as minimum. Without proper financial backup a hugh investment was not possible. It was a place where hundreds of small, unrelated and fragmented products dominated. The local Home appliances were supported by the local governments and therefore did not strictly operate on the strict for-profit orientation.

Financial resources and Management Estimates

Financial resource is that fund and backbone of the company which it can endure for funding the expansion or contraction of the company. Achieving these goals requires projecting what they will cost, and when you need to withdraw funds. A major risk to the household in achieving their accumulation goal is the rate of price increases over time, or inflation. The market was highly inefficient. The foreign company investment has been with low brand value; chaotic and fragmented distribution; no pricing power.Estimation is important in business because too many variables exist to determine how large-scale activities will develop. Estimation in project planning can be particularly significant, because plans for the distribution of labor and for purchases of raw materials must be made, despite the inability to know every possible problem that may come up.Furthermore, such plans must not underestimate the needs of the project, which can result in delays while unmet needs are fulfilled, nor must they greatly overestimate the needs of the project, or else the unneeded resources may go to waste

Justification: why this is under this model: Estimation is important in business because too many variables exist to determine how large-scale activities will develop. Whirlpool has the ability to introduce new products to the consumers of different countries and invent more market.

Relatedness of the Statement

Whirlpool Corporation is responsible for the production, importation and distribution of several Whirlpool company-designated global brands and other multi-country brands distributed or produced by Whirlpool Companies include while local brands produced by the company include. The company also produces nonalcoholic beverages, and flavored worldwide. Unlike the other competitors Whirlpool can provide new flavor to the people of China and gain market more.

Justification:

A large new entrant like Whirlpool had to either acquire or control the many smaller local and regional Home appliances producers via acquisition or licensing, or build its own centralized large-scale Home appliance which would, in turn, require the construction of a costly mass-distribution system to reach the local markets. And reaching the small local markets was critical to gaining a sustainWhirlpool and profitWhirlpool foothold in different countries

Position

The original work on positioning was consumer marketing oriented, and was not as much focused on the question relative to competitive products as on cutting through the ambient "noise" and establishing a moment of real contact

with the intended recipient. Similarly we can find different people with different quality across the world. Whirlpool Companies include while local brands produced by the company include. The company also produces nonalcoholic beverages, and flavored worldwide. Differentiation in the context of business is what a company can hang its hat on that no other business can. For example, for some companies this is being the least expensive. Other companies credit themselves with being the first or the fastest. Whatever it is a business can use to stand out from the rest is called differentiation. Differentiation in today’s over-crowded marketplace is a business imperative, not only in terms of a company’s success, but also for its continuing survival

Justification: why this is under this model:

A company, a product or a brand must have positioning concept in order to survive in the competitive marketplace. If you don't position your business, your competitor will, which is likely not what you desire. The growth of high-tech marketing may have had much to do with the shift in definition towards competitive positioning. An important component of hi-tech marketing in the age of the World Wide Web is positioning.Whirlpool announced a second restructuring in 1997. The company planned to cut a further 4,700 jobs worldwide, or about 15% of its workforce, mostly in Europe. In 1998, WEBV had a 12% market share and held the number three market position. However, in 1998, the profit margin hadreduced further to 2.3%, compared to 10% in the U.S.

The ability to innovate products according to the needs of the consumer’s give Whirlpool an advantageous position in the global market

Relatedness of the Statement

Whirlpool has always come up with innovative products in response to the customer needs. For example, Whirlpool increased the size of the entrance of its front-loading washing machines, thus allowing clothes to be pushed into the machine more easily and contributing to increased sales in Europe. Besides Whirlpool continued to invest money in India and committed over $100 million to build a new plant near Pune to produce chlorofluorocarbon-free and frost-free refrigerators for the Indian market.

Page 10: Final Swot and Hr Chllanges

Justification:

The products could then be diversified to suit individual and regional preferences. In this way, the parts that the customer sees the dimensions of the appliance, the metal case, and the controls could be varied by segment or market to fulfill consumers’ needs. The products would also have to meet rigorous quality and environmental standards to ensure that they could be used in different countries around the world. Restructuring the company financially or diversifying into related businesses but eventuallysettled on further global expansion for two main reasons: the company wished to take advantage of lessmature markets around the world and it did not want to be left behind by its competitors, which hadalready begun to globalize.

Technology is the making, modification, usage, and knowledge of tools, machines, techniques, crafts, systems, methods of organization, in order to solve a problem, improve a preexisting solution to a problem, achieve a goal or perform a specific function. It can also refer to the collection of such tools, machinery, modifications, arrangements and procedures. Technologies significantly affect human as well as other animal species' ability to control and adapt to their natural environments. Demographic analysis can be applied to whole societies or to groups defined by criteria such as education, nationality, religion and ethnicity. Institutionally, demography is usually considered a field of sociology, though there are a number of independent demography departments. Formal demography limits its object of study to the measurement of population’s processes, while the broader field of social demography population studies also analyzes the relationships between economic, social, cultural and biological processes influencing a population

Weaknesses

Page 11: Final Swot and Hr Chllanges

Weak management issue over the employees creates unwanted incidents over time for which Whirlpool needs to shirnk its workforce.

Relatedness with the statement

Whirlpool was not the only company aggressively attacking the market, and competition subsequent to Whirlpool’s entry grew fierce. Electrolux and Bosch-Siemens both greatly improvedtheir efficiency, along with many of the smaller European companies. The European companies laid off large numbers of workers, built up their core businesses, and concentrated on generating profits. Bosch-Siemens expanded its overseas operations while keeping production local and the company managed to raise its non-German revenue by more than 30% in five years. Electrolux shed all of its non-appliance businesses and cut its workforce by 15,000, closing 25 factories. Electrolux invested in new factoriesand achieved higher efficiency. Both Electrolux and Bosch-Siemens increased their profitability. The company planned to cut a further4, 700 jobs worldwide, or about 15% of its workforce, mostly in Europe. In 1998, WEBV had a 12%market share and held the number three market position. However, in 1998, the profit margin hadreduced further to 2.3%, compared to 10% in the U.S.

Justification:

Weak management is an issue which might lose control over the workforce. Even without the old plant technologies it has been a challenge to maintain a ragtag workforce, which was dominated by local unions, the implicit contract of lifetime employment, and the weight of the local bureaucracy.

Lack of proper understanding how to establish an integrated global strategy will lead Whirlpool into a disadvantageous position in near future.

Relatedness of the Statement:

The top executives of Whirlpool believed most companies with international divisions were not truly global at all, as their various regional and national divisions still operated as autonomous entities rather than. This effectively limited distribution to within a 500-mile radius of the plant, creating a need for a network of brewing plants that were suit Whirlpool scaled to cater to a fairly small and well-defined market area. Thus it is difficult to retain and capture markets of Home appliance around the globe

Justification:

The contract between the two parties specifies the responsibilities of each when ending the relationship and may include requirements such as notice periods, severance pay, and security measures. In Asia, the situation was even worse. Although the region accounted for only6% of corporate sales, Whirlpool lost $70 million in Asia in 1996 and $62 million in 1997. In Brazil,Whirlpool found itself a victim in 1997, and again in 1998, of spiraling interest rates. The market analyst of Whirlpool overestimated the size of Chinese market. There were only 120 million Chinese middle class people who could afford new home appliances. As a result the overcapacity of the factories created a huge problem for Whirlpool. Whirlpool’s Asian Operation produced poor quality products than its Japanese rivals. As a result it lost Asian market to the Japanese and Korean appliance makers. Whirlpool decided that the best way to enter the Asian market was through joint ventures, as they would allow the company to quickly establish a manufacturing presence in Asia. Whirlpool intensified its Asian acquisition strategy in 1995 with various acquisitions and joint ventures in both India and China. The company bought controlling interest in Kelvinator in India, combined it with Whirlpool Washing Machines Limited, and renamed the new entity Whirlpool of India

Justification

Chinese companies were also seizing considerable market share away from the multinationalforeign competition. Haier, a Chinese producer of air conditioners, microwave ovens, refrigerators, and dishwashers publicly announced plans to become a global brand by 2002 and had already expanded into Indonesia and the Philippines. Once in China, Whirlpool also realized that it had not properly understood the distribution system. The company discovered that there were huge geographical distances between Chinese cities and that the country lacked strong distribution channels. Manufactured in thirteen countries and marketed eleven major trade name across the globeIn North America, especially in USA the appliance market was almost saturated. But the replacement purchases and purchases for new housing development created a great opportunity for Whirlpool to capture the market. The US people are not interested to use appliances that get old. So, replacement purchase was an opportunity for Whirlpool. Asia was the world’s second-largest home appliance market in 1980’s. By the mid-1990s, it was growing at a rate of between 8% and 12% annually and also the market was fragmented. So, it was a great opportunity for Whirlpool to expand its business.

Justification:

Recent industry forecasts indicated that approximately three-quarters of the growth in domestic appliance sales between 1995 and 2000 would be in East Asia (including Australia), Eastern Europe, and South and Central America. According to the forecasts, by 2000 these three regions would account for about 34% of sales. In Latin America the days of hyperinflation were over and moreover governments were reducing tariffs. On the other hand the newly developing countries in Eastern and Central Europe created a great opportunity forWhirlpool to enter into the market

Service Demand

This has similarity with that of the service demand and that of the Whirlpool mobility of the market. As we see here that the premiums Home appliance are given preferences; hence Whirlpool is an international company it can provide people more premium brands according to the consumer.

Hence they are becoming one their potential together increases the reach of the company

First, recent changes in government regulations in both countries made it possible for foreign corporations to own a controlling interest in amanufacturing company. Second, the large populations of India and China reduced the risk of establishinglarge-scale operations there. The Chinese government was strongly encouragingconsumers to “buy Chinese. Too many producers were making similar goods, and productionsoon outpaced demand. The Brazilian government doubled interest rates in October 1997 and againin 1998. As a result, the currency depreciated and the economy suffered. In real terms, the real fell morethan 50% in the six months prior to January 1999. Total foreign investment in Brazil slumped, and thecountry was eventually forced to request a $41.5 billion credit line from the International MonetaryFund in order to help rescue the economy.

Justification:

The government for reasons that often did not have much to do with expertise or knowledge. The introduction of Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise now offered the possibility of independent ownership and control for foreign investors seeking to Whirlpool operations in China.

Here Whirlpool can now go full ownership with certain conditions. As a result the conflict with local or other industries will not happen.

Justification: why this is under this model:

Govt. rules and favor is must for any company to survive. This part has similarity with that of the Govt. policies of the HRPP model. Here we find the problems created for the lacking of a good HR dept. thus Whirlpool must hold for a strong HR dept. In practice, HR is responsible for employee experience during the entire employment lifecycle. It is first charged with attracting the right employees through employer branding. It then must select the right employees through the recruitment process

The distribution process is complicated so that it becomes tough to distribute the product at proper places in proper time. Relatedness of the Statement

Although the manufacturing, personnel, and bureaucratic challenges were substantial, they paled in comparison to the distribution challenges faced by any company aspiring to build a national footprint. A large new entrant like Whirlpool had to either acquire or control the many smaller local and regional Home appliances via acquisition or licensing, or build its own centralized large-scale Home appliance which would, in turn, require the construction of a costly mass-distribution system to reach the local markets.

Justification

Reaching the small local markets was critical to gaining a sustainWhirlpool and profitWhirlpool foothold in China. The Chinese distribution system was notoriously inefficient and corrupt. The Whirlpool to control and for the distribution of a product, largely taken for granted in most industrialized countries, was still an immense challenge in China.

The intense competition by the strong competitors at different regions make tough for Whirlpool to get inside of other cities.

Relatedness of the Statement

Whirlpool decided that the best way to enter the Asian market was through joint ventures, as theywould allow the company to quickly establish a manufacturing presence in Asia. Once it had accomplished this goal, Whirlpool planned to build its own manufacturing facilities in the region. In 1987, Whirlpool announced an agreement with SundramClyton of India to manufacture compact washersfor the Indian market, a joint venture which later became known as Whirlpool Washing Machines Limited. In 1993, the Asian group established regional headquarters in Tokyo and a pan-Asian marketing, product development, and technology center in Singapore.

Whirlpool intensified its Asian acquisition strategy in 1995 with various acquisitions and jointventures in both India and China. The company bought controlling interest in Kelvinator in India, combined it with Whirlpool Washing Machines Limited, and renamed the new entity Whirlpool ofIndia (WOI). In addition to giving Whirlpool a 56% interest in WOI, the Kelvinator purchase gave thecompany direct access to more than 3,000 trade dealers in India. Between 1994 and 1995, the companyalso set up four joint ventures in China, as it believed that China’s market for appliances was likely toequal or surpass that of North America within ten years.

Cultural difference might create misunderstanding within the investor and value of the consumers

Relatedness of the statement:

Swedes preferred galvanized washing machines to withstand thedamp salty air. The British washed their clothes more often than the Italians did, and wanted quieter machines. So, it was difficult for Whirlpool to come up with a single product for Europe. Many foreign investors had relied on Chinese directors and leaders to help them understand the market only to find them competing against their own employees for business, talent, and even financing. A single cultural change might turn things wrong. In North America saturation levels were high, with virtually 100% of households owning refrigerators and cookers and over 70% owning washers. Because of the limited growth opportunities, competition was severe and it was a threat for Whirlpool

Justification:

Many foreign investors had relied on Chinese directors and leaders to help them understand the market only to find them competing against their own employees for business, talent, and even financing. A single cultural change might turn things wrong. In China smaller Chinese companies were seizing considerable market share away from the multinational foreign competition. In addition, the Chinese government was strongly encouragingconsumers to buy Chinese products. So, the government became a threat for Whirlpool to expand its business in different countries

The Human Resource Challenges: 1. The market of Home appliance industry is very competitive around the world, and the competition is getting higher day by day, so the industry market itself can become a huge challenge in the near future.

Whirlpool does it business in the Home appliance industry. The market is very much segregated over here and there are lots of big fishes in the market. Whirlpool also has strong market share but at a same time it has to deal with other strong companies. Home appliance wear are such materials, which depend on the consumption. The mentalities of the buyers swing a lot. It is not their fault, it is because, and different companies come up with new brands Approximately 120 million home appliances are sold in developed countries each year.2 the appliance industry is generally classified into four categories: laundry, refrigeration, cooking, and other appliances. Appliances are constructed in capital intensive plants, and design usually varies among countries and regions.

Page 32: Final Swot and Hr Chllanges

The Home appliance industry market itself can become a biggest challenge to the company, because it is an ever growing industry and there is already so much competition and obviously new competitions will be there as well. Apart from the competition, the customers or the buyers are very flexible in this market; they go with the consumption and go for whatever they want according to the regions. This is obviously a big concern for Whirlpool. Thus HR personal is required to train all the employees so that they can compete with the others. Although it was estimated that 46 million appliances were sold in North America annually, the marketwas expected to grow little in the late 1990s. Saturation levels were high, with virtually 100% of householdsowning refrigerators and cookers and over 70% owning washers

2. Whirlpool is opening lot of ventures outside United States of America, so managing international employees and knowing their culture can be a challenge as well.

Whirlpool already has many outlets outside United States of America and they have plans to open new venture outside USA in China; that means, the employees would be foreigner as well. Whenever there are many employees that require proper monitoring and control. Foreign employees requires, understanding of foreign culture. These matters can become a big issue in the near future. Whirlpool needs to deal with it right now and they should come up with plans to recover from this problem. Human resources is the set of individuals who make up the Workforce of an organization. To control the employees in the right direction HR department is essential but Whirlpool lacks in this part for which it become difficult to control the employees.

Page 33: Final Swot and Hr Chllanges

In practice, HR is responsible for employee experience during the entire employment lifecycle. It is first charged with attracting the right employees through employer branding. It then must select the right employees through the recruitment process. HR then on boards new hires and oversees their training and development during their tenure with the organization

This is a direct HR issue and a big HR challenge, because dealing with new people and knowing their culture requires time and it is not an easy job to do. Here Whirlpool has many outlets overseas and those countries are different from each other. The approaches for consumers are different and the way the pursuit things are not even same. Whirlpool needs to focus on lot of the areas and this is a risk which needs to be dealt as soon as possible.

3. Whirlpool brand image can get diluted if target the entire segment. So maintaining he brand image is a big challenge. Here HR must hire local marketing experts properly.

Whirlpool sells their product to the different market segment. But if they do sell their product to different segments, at different prices, there is a high possibility that the brand image might get diluted. People can have wrong ideas Whirlpoolout the products, like whether they are high end or low end products. Proper branding can result in higher sales of not only one product, but on other products associated with that brand. For example, if a customer loves Pillsbury biscuits and trusts the brand, he or she is more likely to try other products offered by the company such as chocolate chip cookies.

Page 34: Final Swot and Hr Chllanges

It is what the customers eventually recall. So, maintaining the brand image is necessary and if anything comes in the ways to destroy or to dilute the brand image that should be taken care of beforehand. This issue is one of those kinds, which should be taken care of as a challenge. Thus finding the appropriate people will be crucial for Whirlpool. With limited growth opportunities and a handful of major players in the United States, it wascritical that firms focus on cost reduction, productive efficiency, and product quality. Product innovationwas also critical, although few major innovations had occurred in recent years. The appliancefirms segmented their products according to different consumers’ needs, and each strived to achievegreater economies of scale

4. The company also needs an HR department to control its employees and teach them what to do and what not to do.

Building a local HR dept. accordance to that of the local country is crucial. Again point to be noted that we do not need a big HRD. Rather a small HR can control many employees. We must define the job descriptions; understand what the people of China and make the structure properly. We must be careful Whirlpool out design of the salary structure. This HR will allow us to blend the cultures and guide the top management to become successful in the long run of the company. In the case there isn’t enough information to show that the Human Resource department of was active. For not having HR department, faced a lot of managerial problems. Without having a well-established human resource department it is necessary for an organization to ensure as it is critical to the organizational achievement. A strong human resource management department can ensure the success of an organization and also helps in achieving the organizational goals more effectively and efficiently.

Page 35: Final Swot and Hr Chllanges

Not having a proper human resource department was the most critical problem of the HR issues that has taken place within. So the company needs to have specific HR department to deal with the problems they are facing relating with the compensation packages the employees. The employees were not receiving the compensation packages; the employees have to work overtime without any extra payment. There was also lack of appliance for a safe and upright working environment. Therefore, the company should form a well-structured HR department as early as possible to handle these types of circumstances

5. Insecure working condition of Employees might cause Whirlpool problem in Developing countries

WHIRPOOL completely careful to ensure working condition for its employees, not only in the executive level but also the other working levels were insecure. But their working condition in Asia and other developing countries might not allow them to do that. Demand was refused by WHIRPOOL for several times and doing so lead to the elimination of Union leaders. Though WHIRPOOL was maintaining private airports near its inland mines and the coast, it was not able to stop the kidnappings of foreign executives.

Page 36: Final Swot and Hr Chllanges

The government of different countries will strictly monitor the labour laws concerning the working hours and mandatory safety conditions; WHIRPOOL took that advantage and moved to different cities. Workers are said to have one of the toughest and risky work in the world. That’s why it is essential for them to work with proper equipment’s to avoid accidents. WHIRPOOL does not took any care of that condition and they neither took any steps to ensure that the mine workers go to work wearing appropriate equipment. For that not only the internal environment bit also the external environment was very unsteady of WHIRPOOL. This phenomenon harms both the company and the other employees, including those who are not direct targets. Co-workers are distracted by drama, gossip and choosing up sides in the on-going animosity. This can translate into lost productivity. While employees are distracted by this activity, they cannot devote time and attention to the achievement of business goals. Positively motivated and ethical employees may try to speak up to a toxic employee but this can make them a target. Over time, positively motivated employees drift away from the workplace and only employees comfortable in the negatively charged atmosphere remain on staff.
