Research Day 2016 abstracts of presenters 1 Research Day 2016 abstracts of presenters 1 Alyssa Grossman Experimenting with Memory Fine Art Keywords Social anthropology, memory studies, post-communism, interdisciplinary research methodologies. Abstract My anthropological research is about everyday sites and practices of remembrance work in Romania, now nearly three decades after the country’s revolution ended forty-five years of communist rule. In my work I utilize traditional anthropological methodologies, but also filmmaking and other sensory and experimental methods to investigate how Bucharest residents are currently making sense of their past, present, and future. My presentation will outline some of my strategies for investigating more embodied, affective sites and practices of memory, and discuss some of the practical and theoretical implications of this work within the related disciplines of social and visual anthropology. Bio Alyssa Grossman is a social and visual anthropologist, currently a Researcher in Artistic Practice at Valand. From 2011-2016 she was a postdoctoral research fellow at GU’s Center for Critical Heritage Studies. She holds a PhD in Social Anthropology with Visual Media from the University of Manchester, and an MA in Visual Anthropology from the Granada Centre for Visual Anthropology. Simultaneous broadcasts, media events, multinational channels and eventually satellite channels have all been put to this use and they have all failed to create and promote a sense of belonging to a common Europe. Why did the Europeans fail? Why did they fail precisely where their nationalist predecessors succeeded? The presenation explores attempts of inventing a common cultural identity, as well as an ethical and mythological decent of a European community, through satellite television. Bio Andjeas Ejiksson is an artist, writer and editor, living in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden. The current focus of practice is Ejiksson's research under the title The Theatre of Bureaucracy, which he will develop within the PhD program at the Valand Academy in the coming years. Ejiksson has also been a researcher at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm (2014), before that at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht (2008– 2009). In Swedish
