S(1IJl11)llC)N Hi recruit My name is Sparky
Maybe youve heard of me If not then maybe youve heard of the hero I play sidekick for the undefeatable Yankee
Of course Sparkys not my real name like with most members of Delta Squadron Im pretty darn careful to use my codename so that some Axis spies dont do their worst to sabotage my family back home Lifes hard enough on the home front without having to worry about Nazi spies battering your door down just because your kid brothers making life hard for Der Fuhrers soldiers in North Africa
Well bunkie if you ha ven t figured it out yet youre in the Army now Thats what happens to deltas these days If you havent already volunteered to serve your country in the war then you ve been drafted into service
People lucky enough to possess delta powers have a responsibility to use them to help others Nowhere is that more obvious than during a war Who else is better suited to stop the Axis from grinding freedom under its jackbooted heel
Of course American deltas are few and far between They re a precious resource the kind you cant just ration like bullets or raise war bonds for That means that we cant just waste them in any old part of the Army Sure one delta might be able to help out a squad of regular GIs but just think about how much good a coordinated team of deltas could do for us
Pacific Theater Section A3
Delta Squadron was personally founded by President Roosevelt back in 1939 Even back then long before America got involved in the war FDR could see the storm clouds of war gathering over Europe and Japan and he knew that the US government was going to have to bring all its power to bear on the problem-including its deltas
Of course Delta Squadron didnt kick into high gear until after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on that most infamous of days December 7 1941 By December 14 just one week later President Roosevelt had already made a public call for every American delta to step forward and serve his-or even her-country in its darkest hour
The outpouring of support was amazing deltas came crawling out of the woodwork Even those who had rarely if ever used their delta powers were suddenly standing side by side with the more colorful costumed heroes Even more incredible though was the way long-time enemies were suddenly working alongside each other-even guys like the Yankee and the Gangster whod been at each others throats for years War makes strange bedfellows I guess
FDRs delta amnesty program had a lot to do with tha t In exchange for serving a full tour of duty with Delta Squadron all but the worst delta criminals were guaranteed a clean slate again Just about all the deltas in prison (or wanted for one crime or another) leapt at that chance and not just because they smelled their shot at freedom either
No these deltas werent just crooks They were Americans and proud of it They were ready and willing to fight to preserve our nation against the Axis threat

If youre reading this document then youre a new member of Delta Squadron If youre not and youre a faithful American then stop reading and take this booklet directly to the nearest Army recruiting center Theyll know what to do with it
Take it from me If youre not with Delta Squadron this information isnt for your eyes Do your country a favor and turn it in so we can figure out how such sensitive information got into the wrong hands If you turn it in voluntarily well take that into account you shouldnt be in any trouble at all But if we somehow find this in your possession then youve perpetrated a crime tantamount to treason So do us all a favor and turn It in now
If youre an Axis spy and youre reading this all I can say is that this document is updated regularly so what youre reading here may not be valid for long
That and I hope you choke on it
)IYIC)II Ive been asked to indoctrinate new
recruits (like you) into Delta Squadron Having been wi th this organiza tion from the start I know it inside and out
I may be one of the youngest members of Delta Squadron-I just turned 18 late last year right before the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor-but that doesnt mean I havent been around the block a few times I first received my powers-or awakened as the eggheads call it-back in 1936 at the tender young age of 12
Pacific TIleater Section A3
It was back in Chicago-my hometown-and the Yankee was duking it out with the Gangster The Yankee had the villain on the run and was chasing him all across the city They eventually wound up in Grant Park fists and bullets flying everywhere
I was standing there tip-toeing along the rim of Buckingham Fountain as the battle blazed by and the next thing I know the Gangsters holding me hostage his Tommy gun pressed against my temple The Yankee makes a dive for him and then were all struggling in the bottom of the fountain Its all I can do to keep from drowning in the shallow water
When I finally scramble up out of the fountain the Yankee and the Gangster are still duking it out I spot the Gangsters gun in the center of the fountain and dive for it I manage to wrestle it up out of the water andshypointing it at the Gangster-I scream for him to stop or Ill shoot
The masked man in the pinstriped double-breasted suit spins around to see me holding his own gun on him and he goes berserk He charges me and I try firing the gun but its jammed The next thing I know hes wrestled it from me and hes beating me half to death with it While hes distracted with me though the Yankee recovers and comes over to lay the Gangster out with a single punch
I woke up in the hospital feeling pretty darn good It turns out that the beating awakened my delta powers turning my skin tougher than steel plate
The Yankee visited me in the hospital that day and made me an offer If I would train with him-as his sidekick
My answer of course was YES
