2017 Principals Message
Assalaamualaikum wa Rahmatullah wa
Barakatahu,
All praises are to Allah, Subhana wa Ta’Ala
our Sustainer and Creator, and peace and
blessings on our beloved Prophet
Mohammed.
Tena Koutou Katoa.
Farewell 2016
We farewell
Ust Sadiyyah Ali and Ust Jameelah Khan
who have returned to University to
further their tertiary studies. We wish
them all the best Insha Allah.
Ust Heral Patel has moved to Green Bay
High School, closer to her home, we
hope she enjoys her new role.
Ust Thara Ebrahim is on maternity leave
expecting her first baby any day now, we
congratulate her and her husband. In-
shaaAllah their baby arrives safe and
well and brings the new parents every joy
and happiness, Ameen.
New Team!
We welcome
Ust Shalu Aara who will be teaching
English and ESOL while USt Thara is on
maternity leave. She is also a qualified
ESOL teacher. She is a welcome
addition to the team.
Brother Wahid Ali who is the school
property manager and caretaker.
Welcome back to all our staff, I want to take
this opportunity to thank everyone for all
their efforts throughout 2016. The success
of our school is built on the efforts of our
staff. Thank you for your continued
dedication and commitment.
Welcome to our parents and students of
2017. Parent volunteers offer a huge
resource and support base for the school
community while showing their kids the
importance of participating in the larger
community.
Not only will the school reap the benefits of
your involvement — you will, too. By interact-
ing with teachers, administrators, and other
parents on a regular basis,
you'll gain a firsthand understanding of
your child's daily activities. You'll also tap
into trends and fads of school life that can
help you communicate with your kids as
they grow and change (all without intruding
on their privacy or personal space).
Even if you haven't been involved in the
past, it's never too late to start. In fact, it
may be more important than ever to get
involved when kids reach secondary school.
I am always available to see parents. Please
do come and speak with me regarding any
concerns you may have.
We look forward to the start of the year and
will endeavour to get to know you, your child
and your family in 2017.

“La yu-akhithukumu Allahubillaghwi fee aymanikum
walakin yu-akhithukumbima kasabat quloobukum
wallahu ghafoorun hallem”.
Allah will not call you to task for thoughtlessness in
your oaths, but for the intention in your hearts; and He
is Oft-forgiving, Most Forbearing.
Al-Baqarah 225
————————————————— ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas (RA) reported that the Messen-
ger of Allah (SAW) said that Allah, the Glorious, said,
“Verily, Allah has ordered that the good and the bad
deeds be written down. Then He explained it clearly
how (to write): He who intends to do a good deed but
he does not do it, Allah records it for him as a full
good deed, but if he carries out his intention, then
Allah the Exalted, writes it down from ten to seven
hundred folds, and even more. But if he intends an
evil act and has not done it, then Allah writes it down
with Him as a full good deed, but if he intends it and
has done it, Allah writes it down as one bad deed.”

not by his acts but by his intentions. For God alone

blessed milestone. Ameen.

Attendance Dues
State-integrated schools are schools that were previously
private and have become part of the state education
system. Zayed College for Girls is a state integrated
school. We are government funded to teach the national
curriculum. However, the land and buildings are not
owned by the government. Because of this we DO NOT get
funding from the government for capital works on the land
and buildings. This funding comes from the Proprietors, Al
Nahyan Trust.
Section 36 of the Private Schools Conditional Integration
Act 1975 enables Proprietors to collect attendance
dues. This money is then used to pay for improvements to
the land and buildings.
This is a legal and compulsory payment by parents each
year your daughter attends Zayed College. JazakAllah
Khairan to those parents that have paid or are making
payments.
If you have not paid please contact Sister Sunita Kalidas
on 2550904 or email
[email protected] to find out your
balance. You can pay in full or make regular smaller
payments.
We are looking for a mum to volunteer some time to
manage our library during lunchtime. Tasks will include issuing books, tidying library, data entry,
general stocktaking to name a few. A great way to learn some new skills which can help you
back into the workforce, social interaction with students
and friendly staff , free tea and coffee and maybe a
couple of biscuits now and again. If your interested, call
Sunita on 09 2550904.
Are you eligible for transport financial
assistance? You may be eligible for School Transport Assistance from the Ministry of Education as most parents drive their children to school. The subsidy is equivalent to the bus fare to and from the closest bus stop to your home per day. To be eligible for School Transport Assistance a student attending a state or state-integrated school must meet all of the following criteria.
the student’s home must be more than:
3.2km from their nearest appropriate school if
they are in years 1 – 8.
4.8km from their nearest appropriate school if
they are in year 9 or over
Suitable public transport is not available anywhere between the student’s home and their nearest appropriate school.
Financial assistance for families The Ministry of Social Development has asked us to re-
mind boards and principals that MSD clients can now
apply quickly and easily for help with school uniform and
stationery costs at www.my.msd.govt.nz
Applying online via MyMSD means they won’t have to
visit a Work and Income office. MSD will ask applicants
to upload evidence of the cost of the items they’re plan-
ning to buy, usually a quote from the supplier.
If the payment’s approved MSD will send the applicant a
text or email to confirm. Applicants will need to pay back
the money to MSD over time, using a repayment plan
arranged with Work and Income.
More information about assistance with school uniforms
and stationery can be found on the MSD web-
site, workandincome.govt.nz, under Benefits and Pay-
ments.
Many of the approved application payments are made
directly to schools. General information on how to regis-
ter as a supplier with Work and Income is available
on https://www.workandincome.govt.nz/supplier
