A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR
3
Dear Parish Family,
In our Gospel today we hear of Jesus’ healing of Peter’s mother-in-law. A church was built over the foundations of her
house – here is a picture of the foundations and of Deacon Hank and me offering Mass in the Church.
One of my favorite parts of the passage in the Gospel from this weekend is Christ, after spending time in prayer, gets up
and goes to preach and teach and heal, “For this purpose, I have come.” Jesus devotes Himself tirelessly to His mission.
And we are called to do the same. We can never be “off” or take a vacation from being a Christian. At all times, in all
places, with all people we must strive to live the love and truth of Christ. This may mean heroic witness and it may mean
simply being nice to our waiter/waitress or the check-out person at the grocery store or having patience while driving. If
we come to Mass and then leave the Church unchanged and unwilling to love, to treat others with respect, to boldly and
joyfully proclaim Christ, then what is the point? Jesus is calling us to more! I want to challenge each of us to live the
Gospel at all times and without counting the cost. That person that you do not like: pray for them, smile at them and
offer a kind hello. That family or work situation that is difficult: pray about it and be ready to, with kindness, bring
healing and light into the situation. In both great and small ways, we are being called to an authentic living of the Gospel.
We must always be striving to do more, to live more fully the Gospel, to get up and go.
God give us strength!
In Christ,
Fr. DeBlock

St. Vincent DePaul
The National Council of The United States ,Society of
St. Vincent de Paul has sent out this prayer for our
country.
Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace, extend a special blessing
on us, the people of the United States of America. Calm
our fears, remove our hatred and clear our eyes.
Lord Jesus, King of Kings, lead us to your Kingdom.
Help us to remember that our reward does not lie in
the promises and politics of this world.
Lord Jesus, Son of God, soothe our angry hearts.
Help us finally to stop escalating the violence be-
tween factions. Help us to seek unity, not division,
consensus not conquest.
Lord Jesus, Lamb of God, enter our hearts, bring us
peace so that we may seek instead to be the shining
city, once again to be one nation under God.
Let it begin with me.
Amen.
If you or someone you know needs assistance, please
call us at 224 520-1589.

Eucharistic Adoration - Cancelled
A multitude came unto him, because his power healed them all.
Holy God, we praise thy name;
Lord of all, we bow before thee!
All on earth thy sceptre claim,
All in heav'n above adore thee;
Infinite, thy vast domain, Everlasting is thy reign.
Infinite, thy vast domain, Everlasting is thy reign.
Holy Father, Holy Son,
Holy Spirit, Three we name thee;
While in essence only One,
Undivided God we claim thee;
And Adoring, bend the knee,
While we own the mystery.
And Adoring, bend the knee,
While we own the mystery.
