A dream more than 400 years in the making, the Panama Canal opened in 1914, and this epic man-made marvel changed the world in the process. There's no better way to discover this colossal wonder than on a Panama Canal cruise. Sail roundtrip from Ft. Lauderdale, and discover why Condé Nast Traveler named it among its top "Where To Go" attractions. Expert narration will enlighten you as your ship passes through the new locks built in 2016. You will do a partial transit of the canal, going through the Gutan Locks and into Lake Gutan, and then returning. Ashore, there is everything from Costa Rican rainforests to Old World cities like Cartagena that recall the Age of Exploration.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida - Beaches, boats, and year-round warm, sunny weather make Ft. Lauderdale a mecca for snowbirds, vacationers, and sports enthusiasts. The most popular beach resort in Florida is even more rightly famed as the "Yachting Capital of the World," with more than 40,000 registered crafts calling its waters home. The city also prides itself on being the "Venice of America" with more than 300 miles of naviga-ble waterways. Fort Lauderdale boasts world-class theaters, museums, sightseeing, and shopping, attracting more than 10 million visitors annually.

Port of Call

Princess Cays, Bahamas Princess Cays is Princess Cruises’ exclusive port of call on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. One hundred miles long and only two miles wide, Eleuthera offers unspoiled beaches. The private resort at Princess Cays is situated on more than 40 acres and features over a half-mile of white-sand shoreline, all at the southern tip of the island. The resort boasts outstanding amenities while carefully preserving this natural paradise. Take in the views from the observation tower. Enjoy a complimentary beach barbecue. Sip a cool drink or browse the shops and the local craft market. All of Princess Cays' facilities are linked by walkways. Recreational activities abound. Enjoy volleyball and a full range of water sports, or simply relax on the beach.

Cartagena, Colombia One of the more interesting cities on your itinerary, Cartagena is steeped in history. This was the transit port for all the wealth Spain derived from South America. The famous "Old City" is comprised of 12 square blocks filled with attractions, boutiques and restaurants. Throughout Colombia, the Spanish Empire's influence in the New World is self-evident. Its fortress walls, quaint narrow streets, and balconied houses are all vivid reminders of Spain's hold on Cartagena and throughout the Caribbean and South America. This is the land of El Dorado and flamboyant adventurers in search of the ever-elusive gold. Carta-gena's well-constructed fortifications defended its borders against seafar-ing pirates whose attacks lasted for more than 200 years. Today this modern and bustling city, seaport, and com-mercial center still boasts much of its original colonial architecture. Your journey here will provide you with a signifi-cant link to the region's grand past. Panama Canal Cruising & Colon, Panama The narrow isthmus separating the Atlantic from the Pacific Ocean had a colorful and turbulent history long before Ferdinand de Lesseps first dreamed of building a transcontinental canal. Spanish conquistadors hauled Incan gold through the dense rainforest to ports on the Atlantic. English freebooters sought to ransack those ports and attack the treasure ships that sailed from Portobelo. And 49ers braved mosquitoes and yellow fever to get to the California gold fields. Our partial transit of the canal will take us through the Gutan Locks into Lake Gutan. Those taking shore excursions will depart by tender at Lake Gutan and meet the ship in Colon. While the Panama Canal remains one of the great American engineering feats of the 20th century, visitors to Panama will discover a whole range of scenic wonders. Hike into the dense rainforest, home to over 1,000 species of animals, or pay a visit to an Embera Indian village in the heart of Cha-gres National Park. Limon, Costa Rica

Costa Rica's Limon Province boasts pristine beaches, sprawling banana plantations and dense rainforest. These Caribbean lowlands are still sparsely populated and conservation efforts have led to growing eco-tourism. Limon Province offers other charms as well. Afro-Caribbean influences abound, from the lilting speech and reggae rhythms brought by Jamaican settlers to the colorful bungalows lining small fishing villages. Limon is a zesty little slice of heaven.

Blue-green mountains, white-sand beaches, soft breezes wafting across flower-adorned hillsides - Jamaica is a sensual feast. Stunning natural beauty and a unique society molded by British, African, Spanish, and Asian influences make Jamaica an unforgettable port of call in the Caribbean. Weather and Clothing: The weather in the Caribbean should be delightful, with average temperatures rang-ing from the low 70s to the mid 80s. Panama will be quite warm and humid, with temperatures in the high 80s or low 90s. A hat and sunscreen are highly recommended to protect from the sun’s rays. You may also want to bring a light jacket or sweater for cooler temperatures or air conditioning. When vacationing on your cruise, your emphasis should be on casual and comfortable clothing. We suggest casual resort clothing. There will be two formal nights on board, in which women usually wear cocktail dresses, dressy dresses, or nicer pantsuits, and men wear dark suits or dinner jackets. However, if you do not wish to dress up for dinner, you are wel-come to dine in one of the alternative restaurants on the ship. On the other nights, attire for dinner is Resort Casual, in which women wear a more casual dress, skirt, or slacks and a blouse or sweater, and men wear long slacks and an open-neck shirt. Documentation: Passports are required,* valid for six months after your return date (September 2018). Passport applications are available at your local post office.
