For the Love of Reading!

Through the years as a principal and

teacher, I have tried many different

methods to encourage children to not

only read, but develop a love for reading.

I love to read and believe it is one of the

best ways to improve understanding and

build vocabulary in all areas. Reading

has been a lifelong companion for me

and I hope by sharing some strategies

you can use at home, our children will

discover how much reading can enrich

their lives!

Be a role model and set up a time to

read daily. It could be right before

bedtime.

Start a Series! Kids love them and

you will enjoy reading with them.

Pick a theme! Food, Reptiles,

Animals, Holidays, Fantasies, Fairy

Tales, Science, Sports. Children love

to learn about your interests and be a

part of your hobbies.

Poetry! Children’s poetry is so much

fun. Read Shel Silverstein, Kevin

Kellog, Bobbi Katz, Wade Hudson,

Naomi Shihab Nye, Myra Livingston.

Throw in some adult poetry by

Robert Frost.

Campfire Corner

Students are learning to manage strong feelings like anger by using the

“Ways to Calm Down”. When strong feelings are under control, children are better able to think clearly and avoid hurting other people's bodies and feelings. Students were given their second "Home Link". We en-courage everyone to take a few minutes and discuss this with your child. Mrs. Scroggin holds special prize drawings for students who re-turn these forms to school.

Contact Mrs. Hendricks or Mr. Farris if you have any questions.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We would like to enlist your help with keeping our contact infor-mation correct and ensuring the safety of our children.

We ask that you write a note to the teacher (preferred method) or call the office:

Before 2:00 PM if there is a change in plans for your child’s PM departure from school.

If your child has a medical ap-pointment planned during the school day.

A change in your contact infor-mation

Your child is being picked up by someone other than an adult you listed as a contact when you enrolled.
