STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS “But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” MATTHEW 5:44 Love your enemies, easier said than done, no doubt. But remember, the foundation of stewardship is prayer. When we are in close communication with God, it opens our heart and it turns our attention away from “me” and moves it toward God and oth-ers. It allow us to have a little more empathy for “our enemy.” When we pray for others, even “our enemies,” maybe it softens their hearts as well.
DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE!
Forgiveness. The Year of Mercy ended almost 3 months ago, but that does not mean we should stop showing mercy to our neighbor. Jesus teaches us the radical nature of the Christian message in loving our enemies and praying for those who persecute us. The Church has made Herself many enemies throughout the last 20 centuries. We must con-tinue to pray for these enemies and forgive those who trespass against us. We are told to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect. We become like God in a deep way and participate to some degree in His perfection when we are merciful.
CATECHESIS (Teaching the Faith) SUNDAY On Catechesis Sunday, February 19th, there will be a short DVD presentation, FORGIVEN, after the 8:30 a.m. Mass in the parish hall. As we prepare for Lent, our Catechesis in February and March turns to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, its history, preparation for the sacrament and the rite of the Sacrament itself. When was the last time you were in a religion class? If your answer is 30 years or more, this class is a must.
CATECHESIS BULLETIN INSERTS 2017 Last year we celebrated the Jubilee Year of Mercy. Now we extend our reflections on acts of mercy with a monthly catechesis in the form of bulletin inserts on the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. The Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in his spiritual and bodily necessities. Instructing, advising, consoling, comforting are spiritual works of mercy, as are forgiving and bearings wrongs patiently. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 2444-2445). The Spiritual Works of Mercy are drawn from Old and New Testament sources such as: In wisdom made per-fect, instruct and admonish one another. (Colossians 3:16); As a mother comforts her son, so I will comfort you. (Isaiah 66:13); Bear with one another; forgive whatever grievances you have against one another; Forgive as the Lord has forgiven you. (Colossians 3:12). The Corporal Works of Mercy consist especially in feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and bury-ing the dead. They primarily come from the New Tes-tament, the Last Judgment discourse by Jesus in Mat-thew 25:31-46.

REST IN PEACE
In your charity, please pray for the repose of the soul of Lew Johnson, for whom a Memorial Mass was held in church on February 18th. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
EVANGELIZATION Stop, Listen, Love
Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels. One of the simplest and most effective forms of evangelization is kindness. When we are pleasant, generous and attentive, we share the love of God in our lives and extend it to others. Christian hos-pitality recognizes the value of everyone we encounter
as a precious child of God. Being too busy to greet others or inquire about their well-being devalues them and us. Haste makes us self-absorbed. We may be the only one to pause and validate that person’s existence and dig-nity. Such moments make it hard to determine who the angel is. Both parties truly benefit from the grace of such encounters.
