First Reading: The sacred author poetically portrays the Wisdom of God as a Person who is with God and works with God at the creation of the world. In St. John's Gospel, Wisdom becomes the “Word” that “was with God” in the beginning. (Proverbs 8:22-31)
RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Ps. 8) “ O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all
the earth! ”
When I behold your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you set in place —What is man that you should be mindful of him,or the son of man that you should care for him? Res.
You have made him little less than the angels, and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him rule over the works of your hands, putting all things under his feet. Res.
All sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field,The birds of the air, the fishes of the sea,and whatever swims the paths of the seas.. Res.
Second Reading: Paul tells us that through sufferings, endurance, the forming of character and hope, we in the Spirit give glory to God, because the love of God has been poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. (Romans 5:1-5 )
Gospel: John teaches the doctrine of the Most Holy Trinity indirectly. In this reading, the Father and the Son send the Holy Spirit into the world as the Spirit of Truth to guide the apostles. Similarly, we need the Holy Spirit to guide us the faithful in our path through life. (John 16:12-16)
