Brief Description of Undergraduate Courses Taught: (Course Title – Code: Description)
1 Mechanical point: This course includes the Fundamental concepts of Newtonian mechanics and waves considering, Cartesian, cylindrical and spherical coordinates Systems.
2 Thermodynamics: To teach basic principles of classical thermodynamics The first and second laws of thermodynamics are applied to simple gas and vapor power and refrigeration cycles. The student should be able to analyze simple to complex thermodynamic problems.
3 Electromagnetism in vacuum and in material: This course includes the basic concepts and the theoretical foundations of Maxwell's Equations in matter and electromagnetic waves. Topics include electrical fields in matter, Magnetic fields in matter, Electrodynamics,
Maxwell's equations, conservation laws, Electromagnetic wave propagation, Potentials and Fields, Radiation.
4 Crystallography and properties of material: This course present the basic concepts needed to understand the crystal structure of materials and the knowledge of physical properties of solid state such as dielectric, magnetic, semiconductor and superconductor.
5 General Physics 1 / PHYS101: The course covers the basics concepts of mechanics and properties of matter including the topics: Physical quantities, units, coordinates, and dimensions. Vectors and their characteristics. Kinematic equations, and laws of motion including Newton's laws. Energy and the work – Kinetic energy theorem as well as the principle of energy conservation. Pressure, density and fundamentals of fluid mechanics, law of Archimedes and viscosity, Bernoulli’s equation and its applications.
6 General Physics 3/ PHYS 201: It is an introductory course for more advanced courses in thermodynamics and waves. It presents the basics of heat and thermal energy in a way of measurements, interactions, ways of transfer and applications. It also presents the simple harmonic motion and the sinusoidal, superposition of sinusoidal motion and waves.
7 Modern Physics/ PHYS 204: The objective of this course is to is to familiarize students with the theories of modern physics which appeared
in the early twentieth century and that - in spite of the fact that some of them are strange, to logic, however,
it turns out that are true, by modern experiments and greatly affected the interpretation of physical phenomena and affect widely the interpretation of the physical phenomena observed experimentally and deepened a lot of physics concepts.
8 Waves / PHYS 208: The objective of this course is to familiarize students with the principles of periodic motions and waves and to appreciate their applications in life and in technical equipment. 1 The aim of this course is to provide students with a background and understanding of the fundamentals of the solid state physics and to expose them to some exciting current research in this field. On completion of the course, the student should know and be able to use different theoretical models for electron structures, lattice vibrations and transport in solid materials and be able to evaluate the validity of the models, their applicability and limitations. This course gives students the necessary knowledge and skills to read current research papers in solid state physics and to understand the physical process underlying many solid state devices.
2 Electron microscopy lab The EML provides basic training in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), from specimen preparation to image processing.
3 This course will cover the following topics: Magnetostatics, Origin of magnetism in materials, Magnetic domains and domain walls, Magnetic anisotropy, Reversible and irreversible magnetization processes, Hard and soft magnetic materials, Magnetic recording. Special topics include magnetism of thin films, surfaces and fine particles; transport in ferromagnets, magnetoresistive sensors, and amorphous magnetic materials.
