Awabakal Word of the Week
Each week we will be learning new Awabakal words.
This week’s word is koran, which means ‘quiet’.
Fassi FlyersThis Friday is the first day of our Fassi Flyers transition program. Our 2022 kinder students will be learning about school life and meeting our teachers. We have prepared lots of fun and creative activities for the newest members of our school community.
School PickupsThank you to everyone for helping us follow the COVID Safe guidelines by waiting at the front gate in the afternoon. Can we ask everyone to maintain social distance.
We’d also like to remind our communities that we want to keep our pick up zone smoke-free. Please refrain from smoking near the entrance.
Tree PlantingOur staff and students have been doing a lot of work in our school gardens this term. On Friday, 30th July , we will have an opportunity to continue this with the planting of trees supplied by Lake Macquarie City Council.
Welcome InternsWe would like to welcome Jierlyn Gregg and Sarah Aggett to our wonderful school. Miss Gregg will be working in Wilai and Miss Aggett will be working in Makoro. We wish them all the best in their ten week internship, and hope they learn a lot from our great teachers.
NAIDOC CelebrationOur students had a brilliant day learning about Awabakal and other First Nations’ culture last Thursday. It was a day full of stories, music, art, language, history and healing.

Stars of the Week: Term 2, Week 10 &
Term 3, Week 1
Jace is Star of the Week this week due to his mature approach to every aspect of school life. Jace always completes his work in a timely and efficient manner, asking for help when needed. Jace also strives to assist others when they need help in the classroom or playground. Jace is an outstanding leader here at Fassifern Public School, and has been selected by the local AECG to be part of the Council's Acknowledgement of Country. He has worked hard to demonstrate positive behaviour at school and is a great role model to his peers. Keep up the fantastic work Jace.
Maycee is an enthusiastic learner who engages in all classroom activities. She demonstrates a caring nature to others and is respectful to teachers. Maycee participates fully in our Extending Mathematical Understanding (EMU) lessons and has shown excellent progress. Maycee follows our PBL expectations and is a positive role model to her younger classmates. She cooperates with others and uses class equipment and playground equipment safely. Maycee walks safely around our concrete areas, ensuring she respects others' personal space. She helps to keep our school tidy and she follows teacher instructions the first time. Maycee is a cheerful and friendly Year 1 student and a very deserving Star of the Week. Well done, Maycee!

We encourage parents to use the free SkoolBag app to notify us of 1 day absences. If you need help downloading the app, please let us know as this is a very important source of school information.
Remember, it is vital that we receive a doctor’s certificate for any student absences 2 days or longer. This is in line with the Department's policies and is important for our records.
