Awaba Environmental Monitoring
The Average Annual results for Dust gauges at Awaba were less
than 4.0 g/m2/month during the reporting period.
Quarterly Noise monitoring is no longer required under EPL443.
Dewatering of the underground workings occurred during the period
and all water quality results were within licence criteria.

Awaba Environmental Management
Rehabilitation works were completed on a sinkhole in November in
accordance with the Sinkhole Rehabilitation Plan approved by
Department of Resources & Energy.
• Monitoring will be ongoing for
erosion, integrity of diversion drains,
revegetation success and weeds.

The following reports have been submitted to the EPA according
to the requirements of the EPA Clean-Up Notice (Awaba
Seepage) received in April 2016:
• Site Investigation Report
• Management Options Report
Illegal Dumping: Hawkemount Road Awaba
Illegal dumping along Hawkemount Road Awaba has been
investigated.
Much of the dumped rubbish appears to have been there for a
considerable amount of time.
There is a mix of materials including asbestos.

Action Plan:
1. Quotes to remove rubbish in the areas shown on the plan has been
obtained. Large variations due to the extent of hazardous waste being
unknown.
2. Newstan / Awaba will allocate $10,000 towards the clean up. This
will not address all sites. Priority to be on hazardous waste.
3. RID team to undertake a signage audit of the area to warn against
illegal dumping.
4. Newstan / Awaba investigating reduced tip fees.

Newstan on Care & Maintenance
Continued with care and maintenance activities, focused on
maintaining the mine infrastructure and keeping the mine safe.
Will continue to recover equipment on an as needs basis for other
Centennial Operations.
All equipment in Main West has been recovered in preparation for
sealing that area of the mine.
Preliminary work continues to progress the Newstan Extension
Project. The Newstan Extension Project EIS has not progressed
since last reported.

Newstan on Care & Maintenance
Newstan surface operations (Northern Coal Services) continue to
operate.
This includes, but is not limited to:
Receiving coal via trucks from Mandalong / Cooranbong
Operation of the Washery
Transport of coal to Eraring / Cooranbong
Train loading
Use of reject emplacement areas
Continued use and operation of the water management system.

Newstan General
Joint Agency Compliance Audit on Dams undertaken at Newstan on
14 September 2016 – EPA, DP&E, Resources Regulator.
EPA provided a Final Compliance Audit Report dated 16/01/2017.
Centennial Newstan submitted an Action Program 28th February
2017.

Newstan Environmental Monitoring
There were no exceedances of the water quality limits.
The Average Annual results for Dust gauges at Newstan were less than
4.0 g/m2/month during the reporting period.
The Total Particulate Matter (TSP) and PM10 results were within
Development Consent criteria during the reporting period.
Quarterly Noise Monitoring was carried out in February 2017 and results
were within Development Consent criteria.

Newstan Colliery was able to cap additional areas within the
Northern Rejects Emplacement Area through receiving VENM within
the reporting period.
