Fashion Studies 10 W.H. Croxford High School Room: 1025 Teacher: Ms. Parker email:[email protected] Course Description: Fashion Studies is designed around the clothing industry. It encompasses modules based around fashion illustration, fabric knowledge, sewing fundamentals and many more. This course allows students to develop the basic skills in sewing, fashion illustration and fabric construction which are further developed in Fashion 20 and Fashion 30. Students will be expected to explore and experiment with sewing machines, hand sewing and different types of fabrics. This course is a six credit course. Students will have to pass (over 50%) all modules to obtain full credits for the course. Modules Covered: FAS1000 Fashion Illustration 1: Students discover the world of fashion illustration and learn to sketch a croquis, incorporate simple gestures and apply these skills to create fashion illustrations. Project: Lookbook FAS1030 Sewing Fundamentals: Students learn how to safely use and care for sewing and pressing equipment, and apply these skills during project assembly. Project(s): Pin Cushion and Calculator/Cell Phone Holder FAS1060 Creating Accessories 1: Students use basic sewing skills and techniques to construct a home or personal accessory. Project(s): Leather Bracelet FAS1130 Construction fundamentals 1: Student learn how to determine pattern size, choose a suitable pattern and woven fabric, make pattern alterations, and prepare the fabric and pattern for layout. Students apply the skills during the assembly of a simple garment. Project(s): Hoodie FAS1050 Redesign, Recycle & Restore: Students experiment with creative ways to redesign, recycle or restore a project by repairing, customizing or embellishing. Students use these techniques to update or create something new from something old. Project(s): Family Quilt or Jelly Roll Rug FAS1170 Digital Embroidery Tools 1: Students develop a basic understanding of the technology used in the construction of a creative project, using digital embroidery . Project(s): Hoodie embroidery
