Greetings from the President

War Eagle!

Dr. Jay Gogue President

Office of Parent and Family Programs

Welcome to the loveliest village on the Plains!

You’ve chosen a great place to visit. With a beautiful campus spanning more than 1,800 acres, Auburn is one of the largest universities in the South. Auburn is positioned at the educational forefront with its traditional blend of arts and applied science and changing with the needs of today while respecting the traditions and spirit that are Auburn.

This year, we partnered with many campus departments and local businesses to make Fall Family Weekend better than ever. As you take part in the open houses, tailgates, and other events set up by our schools and colleges, I urge you to learn all that you can about Auburn. You will even have the chance to experience some of our traditions, such as watching the eagle fly before the Tigers play Western Carolina and joining many others in the Auburn Family at Toomer ’s Corner after the game.

We hope you enjoy the weekend and all Auburn has to offer.

Auburn TraditionsThe Auburn Creed

I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.

I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully.

I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.

I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities.

I believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all.

I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.

I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by "doing justly, loving

mercy, and walking humbly with my God."

And because Auburn men and women believe in these things, I believe in Auburn and love it.

Rolling Toomer’s Corner

The tradition of rolling Toomer’s Corner is said to have begun when Toomer’s Drugs had the only telegraph in the city. During away football games, when employees of the local drug store received news of a win, they would throw the ticker tape from the telegraph onto the power lines.

Though the trees are now gone, keeping the tradition of rolling Toomer’s Corner alive is important to the entire Auburn Family. The university has partnered with the City of Auburn to create structures suitable for rolling at the Magnolia Avenue-College Street intersection. Fans will gather there as they always have following big victories or other momentous occasions to celebrate.
