Tai ChiChiquita PicardoTai Chi is known for its deep breathing and smooth flowing body movements that give your mind, body, and spirit a workout. Included is Chinese self-massage, called Dao Yin (DOW-in). Dao Yin self-massage can help release tension, reduce anxiety, make you feel more relaxed, and increase circulation of blood, qi (energy flow) and fluids. Research has shown that massage can cause your body to release natural painkillers and may also boost your immune system. No prior knowledge of Tai Chi is necessary.Location: Oasis at The Meadows

Notre Dame de Paris: The Art, History and the Devastating Fire of 2019Marleen Hoover, Professor Emeritus, San Antonio College, Adjunct Professor, St. Mary's University

The Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, with construction begun in 1160 and completed 100 years later, is considered the most complete and most perfect of all the Gothic cathedrals. The cathedral contains all of the classic Gothic elements-the pointed arches over windows and doors, the flying buttresses, the stained glass windows and the great height. There was damage to religious images during the French Revolution and again during the liberation of Paris in 1944. Damage from pollution and pigeons was nothing compared to the fire of 2019. The Remaking of Hollywood FilmsBeverly PradoIn the history of films, a good story has often had more than one telling. In the early days of Hollywood, films like Ben Hur and Cleopatra were huge draws at the box office. Later, these movies would be revived in more modern versions. A film like A Star is Born has had four revivals. My Favorite Wife was modernized by Move Over, Darling. King Kong got updated with new technology. Even Mary Poppins returned. San Antonio is also located at the place where powerful weather systems can converge to create significant rainfall, often resulting in severe flooding in the streams that cross our city. The Disconnect Between Economics and Ecosystems Dr. Thomas TunstallEconomic theory has come to dominate much of the policymaking world and reduces the factors of production to labor and capital. The link between land-or more generally natural capital and ecosystem services-with the economy has effectively been severed by current economic thought. This talk will highlight public policy issues dealing with economic theory that is either ignored or not yet synthesized into mainstream economic thought.
