Dear Friends,

I am pleased to announce that the Town of Oyster Bay has scheduled our workshops for the fall of 2017. Our workshops, which provide varied programs for children and adults, cover a broad range of interests.

The Department of Community and Youth Services, through the Cultural and Performing Arts Division, takes pride in presenting educational and informative workshops in art, music, fitness and more. I am confident there will be a class that will pique your interest.

This fall our classes will be offered at our Town of Oyster Bay Community Center located at the Syosset-Woodbury Park in Woodbury.

On behalf of my colleagues on the Town Board, I encourage you to take advantage of these exciting workshops organized for both your education and enjoyment.

Students will learn watercolor techniques: wet on dry, wet on wet, glazing, experimentation with materials, exploring brushwork styles.

Explore the fundamentals of the ancient art of Sumi-e “brush and ink on paper” painting, and discover how just a few simple strokes of the brush can express an idea. Enrich your knowledge of a different art technique with ancient and Eastern roots.

A children’s drama program designed to help children develop confidence, creative thinking, public speaking skills and acting techniques.

Soccer (Ages 3 - 5) TOB Residents $100 // Non-Residents $1258 Weekly SessionsInstructor: East Coast Football Club

Each class focuses on dribbling, shooting and passing techniques while providing a fun, friendly environment. Children will participate in various games and activities emphasizing different aspects of dribbling, as well as introduction to small sided matches.

Focus is on exploration, gross and fine motor skills, development of social awareness and communication skills through music and dance.

Teaching Baby Sign Language toParents, Caregivers & SiblingsTOB Residents $100 // Non-Residents $1258 Weekly SessionsInstructor: My Classy Baby

Mommy and me style class where we will use music, movement and books to introduce Baby Sign Language! In the “Sign and Sing” class we will learn tools to make our daily routines more interactive and fun! We will teach ASL (American Sign Language) Signs that go along to traditional songs and learn some new ones as well! Expect to learn how to Sign key words so you can enhance eating, story, bed and bath times! Many families report reduced frustration by giving their child the ability to communicate while they are still learning to speak!

Students will explore how the guitar works and then learn to play simple melodies. Bring your own acoustic guitar.

From the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway(Route 135): Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway (Route 135) north to Exit 14E (Jericho Turnpike) East (Woodbury). Turn right at second light into park. (Park entrance is across the street from the Fox Hollow). Stay to the right and follow road downhill into parking lot. Community center is at the rear of the parking lot.

Important Information (Please Read Carefully)

Materials Fees: Some workshops may require an additional materials fee. Do not include this fee in the registration payment. Bring a separate check for materials fee to the first class.

Email: All correspondence is conducted via email. If accepted into a class, you will be notified via email prior to the first class. Be sure to include your email, clearly printed, on the registration form as this is the ONLY way we will communicate with you.

Changing Instructors: In rare instances, instructors may be subject to change.

Non-Transferable Registration: Your registration in a workshop is non-transferable.

Refunds: Students will receive a full refund for the following two reasons only:

1. Students will receive a full refund if a selected class does not materialize.

2. Students will receive a full refund if a selected class is over-subscribed.

Age Requirement: Participants must meet the age guidelines by the start of the program.

Registration General Information & Registration ProcedureFor your convenience, we have arranged for mail-in registration. Registrations will be time-stamped upon receipt in Town Hall South, Department of Community and Youth Services and honored on a first-come, first-served basis. In the event a workshop is registered to capacity, TOB residents will receive first preference. Mail-In RegistrationRegistration forms are located on the following page. Please use one form per course, per person. You may duplicate form if necessary. Attach a separate check for each workshop, per individual.
