    Grouping

    Try these 2 on your own. Which "group" can you factor out?

    1. 3x3(x ‐ 6) + 4(x ‐ 6)

    2. 9y(w2 + 1) ‐ 4x(w2 + 1)

    Students can factor algebraic expressions using the grouping method.

    Grouping directions

    Factor by Grouping:1.  There should be 4 terms.2.  Break quadranomial into 2 groups.3.  Factor each group by GCF.4.  Bring out the factor that "matches."5.  The other factor is made up of the left over 2 terms.

    Students can factor algebraic expressions using the grouping method.

    Metacognitive Skills Survey:

    Unit 2- Polynomials

    Metacognitive skills refer to the ability to judge how well you have learned something and to effectively direct your own learning and studying. This is a self-evaluation tool designed to help you focus your studying and to improve your metacognitive skills with regard to Intermediate Algebra HVCC.

    Use the scale below to assign a number to each topic:

    1 = I know I don’t understand how to do these problems.

    2 = I understand how to do the problems in this category, yet make a few mistakes.

    3 = I am confident I can do any problems in this category correctly.

    Topic or Skill

    Pre- Unit

    Mid- Unit

    Post- Unit
