God’s mercy is boundless. The whole of salvation history reveals the mystery of God’s love, mercy and forgiveness. This mystery became crystal clear in Jesus through his Paschal Mys-tery. God’s mercy overflowed from the cross to the ends of the earth to give new life of grace for all people in all ages, from alpha to omega. Forgiveness for our transgression could not be brought about by any human efforts, sacrifices or inventions, it is purely the gift of God to hu-mankind in His Son Jesus, who gave his life freely as a ransom for all.

The prophets had foretold about the coming of age, when the outpouring of God’s mercy and forgiveness will engulf the whole of creation in a new and unimaginable way. God became one like us, and to make all of us once again the children of God, Jesus in obedience to His Father accepted death, a humiliating death on the cross. From the cross, gushed forth water and blood from the side of Jesus a symbol of God’s mercy and forgiveness, which was announced in the resurrection of the Lord. The Risen Lord then said to the apostles, “Go to the ends of the earth, and announced the good news, and baptize people of every nation in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”

Divine Mercy Sunday is a Roman Catholic solemnity celebrated on the Sunday after Easter, the Octave of Easter. It is originally based on the Catholic devotion to the Divine Mercy that Saint Faustina Kowalska reported as part of her encounter with Jesus, and is associated with special promises from Jesus and indulgences issued by the Church. This feast of Divine Mercy, as rec-orded in the diary of Saint Faustina, receives from Jesus himself the biggest promises of Grace related to the Devotion of Divine Mercy. In specific, Jesus states that the soul that goes to Sac-ramental Confession and receive Holy Eucharistic Communion on that day, shall obtain the total forgiveness of all sins and punishment. Additionally, the Roman Catholic Church grants a plenary indulgence with the recitation of some simple prayers. During the Mass of canonization of St. Faustina on April 30, 2000, the year of the Great Jubi-lee, Pope John Paul II proclaimed: "It is important then that we accept the whole message that comes to us from the word of God on this Second Sunday of Easter, which from now on throughout the Church, will be called Divine Mercy Sunday." The readings on that Sunday are always about mercy, trust and the forgiveness of sins. By the words "the whole message," the Holy Father was referring to the strict connection between the "Easter Mystery of the Redemp-tion" -- the suffering, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Christ, followed by the send-ing of the Holy Spirit -- and this Feast of Divine Mercy, on the Octave Day of Easter. This feast adds so much more meaning to the Easter celebrations. It was Jesus, Himself who asked for it to be celebrated on this particular Sunday following Easter.

Let us avail the mercy of God, receive forgiveness for our sins, and grow in holiness and faith. May the Risen Lord bless us, and protect us from all evil, to lead us to our eternal home, even as we continue to witness to the Pascal Mystery.

There will be a 2nd collection this weekend , April 14-15, for Catholic Relief Services and The Well of Mercy. Many of you have already returned the rice bowls, but if you have not, please bring them to mass next weekend. Cash and checks are always welcome .

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration is the adoration of Jesus Christ present in the Holy Eucharist. In the many Churches that have this adoration, the Eucha-rist is displayed in a special holder called a mon-strance, and people come to pray and worship Jesus continually throughout the day and often the night. Christ’s great love for us was shown when he was crucified on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins and give us eternal life. He loves us without limit, and offers Himself to us in the Holy sacrament of the Eucharist. Can we not give Jesus a few minutes of love and adoration in return? Please plan to spend your quality time at the Eucharistic Adoration on Friday, May 4, and all First Fridays, from 9AM to 6PM in the chapel. Praying and Meditating be-fore a reposed Blessed Sacrament saves souls, living and dead.

Eucharistic Adoration-Worship of the Eucharist Outside Mass

Busy schedules often make it difficult for mothers and daughters to set aside time for each other. How-ever, everyone has to start the day with a little some-thing to eat, so breakfast presents a prime opportuni-ty for mothers and daughters to connect and enjoy each other's company. Whether they make breakfast together, eat out or prepare a morning picnic, a mother-daughter breakfast is a special way to start any day. The Women’s Club will be hosting a Mother and Daughter Breakfast on Sunday, May 6th after the 9AM Mass. The Coronation of Mary will take place during the 9AM Mass. Please mark your calendar.
