Formula 1 is back in Valencia for another year as the City welcomes thethousands of fans, the Grand Prix teams and the best racing drivers in theworld. This magnificent gathering will once again turn Valencia into the centreof attention of the sporting world.

An incredible display of technical and human excellence, on an astonishing racetrack,surrounded by the Mediterranean, shows the most modern and advanced dimension of ourwonderful City.

As Valencia is readied to host this race, it gives us great pleasure to demonstrate ourexperience and expertise in bringing to you this world-class event.

All is ready for the drivers and teams to give of their best and to put on the great show thatwe are all here privileged to witness. Our City and our circuit will once again do their utmostto help provide the greatest show for your entertainment.

La Formula 1 vuelve a Valencia. Un ao ms la ciudad se prepara para recibir alos miles de aficionados, a las grandes escuderas y a los mejores pilotos delmundo, un formidable equipo humano que hace posible que cada una de lascarreras de esta competicin sea un espectculo nico, que convierte aValencia en foco de atraccin mundial.

Un espectculo de exhibicin de la excelencia tcnica y humana, en un trazado y un entornoinsuperable al borde del Mediterrneo, que muestra la dimensin ms moderna y avanzadade la ciudad. The Valencia Street Circuit which has already dazzled in previous runnings ofthis Grand Prix with its privileged venue in what has come to be known as oneof the very best Marinas of the Mediterranean returns to this impressiveurban scene. The best drivers will be here, the stars of the Formula 1, for anevent that once again makes Valencia the star of this universally renownedChampionship.

This year the Grand Prix coincides with the distinction granted to Valencia as EuropeanCapital of Sport, in recognition of its long and distinguished sporting tradition. Jenson se haba recuperado del drive-through y de las dos colisiones queterminaron con paradas en boxes parareemplazar los neumticos traseros queestaban pinchados.

El fin de semana de Vettel comenz mal cuandochoc en la primera prctica libre del viernes,pero se recuper y obtuvo una nueva pole.Mientras tanto, las mejoras en los coches y losneumticos SuperSoft le dieron un impulso aFerrari, lo que permiti que Fernando Alonso yFelipe Massa calificaran en segundo y tercerpuesto. Mark Webber no tena el KERS el sbadoy se ubic cuarto.

Tal como se esperaba, la lluvia se hizo presente eldomingo, y las primeras vueltas se corrierondetrs del coche de seguridad, antes de que seabriera la pista. Lideraba Vettel, el hombre de lapole, mientras que, ms atrs, Lewis Hamilton tuvoun incidente con Mark Webber en la primera curva,que termin con un trompo del coche de Red Bull.

Al tratar de recuperar terreno, en lasptima vuelta, Hamilton se puso a la parde Button en la recta de boxes. Button novio a su compaero de escudera y setocaron a alta velocidad. Pudo haber sidoun incidente grave, pero Button slosufri un pinchazo en un neumtico,mientras que Hamilton debi abandonarla carrera por un dao en la suspensin.Button tambin perdi tiempo con unapenalidad de drive-through por no cumplircon el lmite de velocidad detrs delcoche de seguridad.

Ms tarde volvi la lluvia, lo que oblig aque ingresara nuevamente el coche deseguridad y luego, la bandera roja. Losautos se ubicaron en la parrilla durante doshoras, mientras se producan otras fuertestormentas, hasta que se consider que lapista estaba lo suficientemente seca comopara volver a correr, al principio, detrs delcoche de seguridad.

Los pilotos ingresaron en boxes para colocar neumticosintermedios; luego Button se meti nuevamente en problemasal chocar con Fernando Alonso, lo que hizo que el piloto deFerrarri abandonara la carrera. Esto produjo otra entrada delcoche de seguridad y Button pudo ir a boxes para cambiarnuevamente un neumtico pinchado.

Despus de otro inicio, la carrera volvi a la vida una vez ms,cuando se hizo uso de los neumticos slicks. Button se diocuenta de que su coche funcionaba a la perfeccin en una pistaque estaba seca, pero an, complicada y, rpidamente,recuper puestos desde el lugar 21.

En las ltimas vueltas se acerc a Vettel, que haba liderado lacarrera todo el tiempo y perda su ventaja con cada perodo delcoche de seguridad. La brecha comenz a reducirse y, al llegara la ltima vuelta, Button se coloc junto al coche de Red Bull.Cuando Vettel llevaba media vuelta, Jenson se abalanz y seapoder del primer lugar.

Webber se recuper del incidente de la primera vuelta parallegar en el tercer puesto, y Michael Schumacher tuvo la mejorcarrera desde su regreso, al quedar en cuarto lugar. Cuandofaltaban unas pocas vueltas, fue el piloto ms rpido en la pistay lleg hasta el segundo lugar, antes de perder velocidad y sersuperado por Button y Webber.

Vitaly Petrov hizo un buen trabajo para Renault y terminquinto, mientras que Felipe Massa obtuvo los nicos puntospara Ferrari con un sexto puesto, despus de estar entre lostres primeros la mayor parte de la carrera, hasta que se da laparte delantera de su coche en un incidente.

Jenson had recovered from a drive-through penalty and two collisions thatboth resulted in pit stops to replacepunctured rear tyres.

Vettel's weekend got off to a bad start whenhe crashed in first free practice on Friday, buthe bounced back to take yet another poleposition. Meanwhile car updates and thesupersoft tyres gave Ferrari a boost, allowingFernando Alonso and Felipe Massa to qualifysecond and third. Mark Webber was withoutKERS on Saturday and lined up fourth.

As expected rain came on Sunday, and theearly laps were run under a safety car beforethe field was released. Pole man Vettel led the

rest away, while further back Lewis Hamiltontangled with Mark Webber at Turn One,pitching the Red Bull driver into a spin.

Trying to recover ground Hamilton pulledalongside Button on the pit straight on lapseven. Button did not see his team mate, andthe two made contact at high speed. It couldhave been a major incident, but Buttonescaped with a puncture while Hamiltonretired with suspension damage. Button alsolost time with a drive-through penalty for aspeeding infringement behind the safety car.

Later the rain returned, forcing another safety-car interlude, and then a red flag. The cars saton the grid for two hours, through some more

When it came in drivers began pitting for intermediate tyres, andthen Button got into trouble again when he collided with FernandoAlonso, nudging the Ferrari driver out of the race. That created asafety-car period and Button was able to pit to replace yet anotherpunctured tyre.

After a further restart the race came alive once more as slicksbecame an option. Button found his car working superbly in the drybut still tricky conditions, and quickly made up places from 21st.

In the closing laps he reeled in Vettel, who had led throughout andlost his advantage with every safety-car period. The gap camedown and going into the last lap, Button was right with the RedBull. When Vettel had a half spin Jenson pounced and seizedthe lead.

Webber recovered from his first-lap incident to claim third, whileMichael Schumacher had the best race of his comeback to claimfourth. With a few laps to go he was the fastest driver on the trackand got as high as second before he ran out of momentum andwas passed by Button and Webber.

Vitaly Petrov did well to claim fifth for Renault, while Felipe Massaearned Ferrari its only points with sixth after running in the topthree for much of the race until he damaged his nose in an incident.

The top 10 was completed by Kamui Kobayashi a superb secondbefore the red flag Jaime Alguersuari, Rubens Barrichello andSbastien Buemi. z

El cambio de proveedor de neumticos a Pirelli y laintroduccin del DRS, o el alern trasero mvil, estnsiendo claramente factores claves en el 2011. Ambosjugarn un papel importante durante este fin de semana y porrazones muy especficas.

Por primera vez esta temporada, el fabricante italiano traer sucompuesto medio como neumtico "prime", por lo que todaslas escuderas tendrn mucho que aprender durante lasjornadas de viernes y sbado. El neumtico "option" ser elsper blando, que ya ha sido usado en Mnaco y Montreal. Laclave del fin de semana estar en el rendimiento de losneumticos sobre este circuito, y especficamente el aguantede los sper blandos.

Todas las zonas de aceleracin a la salida de las chicanes yhorquillas exigirn mucho a los neumticos, y cuando a lospilotos les empiece a costar rodar con ellos y pierdan traccin,aparecern las oportunidades de adelantamiento. Y ah esdonde el DRS jugar su papel. En la ltima carrera de Montreal,la FIA incluy por primera vez una segunda zona DRS, y suintencin es hacer lo mismo aqu. Las zonas sernconsecutivas y compartirn el mismo punto de activacin.

A da de hoy se han disputado aqu tres carrerasy desconcertantemente las han ganado tres pilotos distintosen tres escuderas distintas. Pero el mismo piloto haacabado segundo en cada una de ellas!

La temporada pasada gan Vettel desde la pole, y dada laactual forma del alemn comenzar este fin de semanacomo favorito. Siempre ha demostrado un buen ritmodesde su primera visita con Toro Rosso en 2008, cuando seclasific y acab sexto. En el 2009, se tuvo que retirardebido a un problema con el motor, pero se resarci conuna victoria inteligente la temporada pasada. Parece que leest yendo todo a pedir de boca, aunque tuvo queaguantar una enorme presin en Mnaco a la hora deconseguir la victoria.

Su compaero de escudera Mark Webber no est teniendoun comienzo ideal de temporada en absoluto, pero hademostrado su potencial tras unas recuperacionesincrebles, sobre todo en China. En el pasado ha disfrutadode poca suerte en este circuito, y la pasada temporadaprotagoniz un accidente impresionante mientras intentabarecuperarse de una primera vuelta nefasta.

Ferrari y McLaren lideran la persecucin de Red BullRacing, y sin duda ya se sabe a quien animarn losseguidores locales! Fernando Alonso ha disfrutado de unatemporada con altibajos debido a que Ferrari no ha logradoigualar sus expectativas.

Su punto dbil ha sido la clasificacin, pero aun as Alonsoha protagonizado buenas carreras; en Mnaco se acercms que nadie a quitarle el primer puesto a Vettel.

Est claro que los monoplazas rojos prefierenneumticos ms blandos, por lo que la ausencia de neumticosduros no les vendr mal. Adems, la suerte de Fernando enValencia est por cambiar. En 2008, fue eliminado por unaccidente en la primera vuelta; en el 2009 acab sexto; y el aopasado consigui un frustrante octavo puesto despus de queambos pilotos Ferrari fueran penalizados al salir el safety car enun momento desafortunado.

Valencia le trae buenos recuerdos a Felipe Massa, sucompaero de escudera, al haber ganado la carrera inauguraldesde la pole en el 2008. Sin embargo, no particip latemporada siguiente, y la temporada pasada el safety cararruin su carrera y acab en un frustrante undcimo puesto.

Tal y como se ha mencionado anteriormente, un piloto haacabado segundo en cada carrera que se ha disputado en

Valencia hasta la fecha - y ese hombre es, por supuesto, LewisHamilton. Tambin se ha clasificado entre los tres primerospuestos cada temporada, logrando una pole en el 2009. Estclaro que el piloto de McLaren se siente come en casa cuandocompite en este circuito, y no hay ninguna razn por la queesta temporada no est entre los primeros puestos. Sucompaero de escudera Jenson Button obtuvo undecepcionante sptimo puesto en el Campeonato de latemporada 2009, pero acab en un buen tercer puesto el aopasado.

En el 2009, Jenson pilotaba para la escudera Brawn GP, y sucompaero de escudera Rubens Barrichello logr una granvictoria en este circuito. La escudera que ahora se conoce bajoel nombre de Mercedes tuvo una pesadilla de carrera la pasadatemporada aqu en Valencia. The change of tyre supplier to Pirelliand the introduction of the DRS, ormoveable rear wing, have of coursebeen the key factors in 2011. Both willplay a huge role this weekend, and for veryspecific reasons.

For the first time this season the Italianmanufacturer will bring its mediumcompound as the prime tyre, so all the teamswill have a lot of learning to do on Friday andSaturday. The option tyre is the supersoft,which has already been used in Monaco andMontreal. The key to how the weekendunfolds will be how the tyres work on thistrack, and specifically how long thesupersoft lasts.

All those heavy acceleration zones out ofchicanes and hairpins will really put somestress on the tyres, and when drivers begin

to struggle with them and lose traction in therace, overtaking opportunities will appear.And that of course is when the DRS will playa role. At the last race in Montreal the FIAintroduced a second race DRS zone for thefirst time, and the intention is to repeat thathere. The zones will be consecutive, andthus share the same activation point.

Valencia has been criticised in the past for alack of overtaking, but it is anticipated thatas at other venues this year the tyres andthe DRS will change that, and we could get avery different race. Add in a safety car or twoand we could be in for a dramatic afternoon!

We have had three races here, andintriguingly they have been won by threedifferent drivers and three different teams.Having said the same driver has finishedsecond each time! 025 026

Last year Vettel won from pole and,given his consistent form this year, the Germanhas to start the weekend as favourite. He hasbeen quick here from his very first visit withToro Rosso in 2008, when he qualified andfinished sixth. In 2009 he retired with an engineproblem, but he made amends with a welljudged victory last year. Everything seems tobe going right for Vettel at the moment, and wesaw him withstand enormous pressure to winin Monaco.

Mark Webber has had a less than ideal start tothe year, but he has demonstrated his potentialwith some great recovery drives, notably inChina. He has had very little luck here, and lastyear had a huge accident while trying torecover from a poor first lap.

Ferrari and McLaren lead the pursuit of RedBull Racing, and there is little doubt as towho the local fans will be cheering on!Fernando Alonso has had something of amixed season so far as Ferrari's form has notmatched expectations.

Qualifying has been the weakness, but Alonso has had somestrong races, and in Monaco he came closer than anyone totoppling Vettel from the top spot. The red cars certainly prefersofter rubber, so the absence of the hard compound thisweekend will not hurt. Fernando is also due for change offortunes in Valencia. He was eliminated in a first-lap crash in2008, was sixth in 2009, and last year was a frustrated eighthafter both Ferrari drivers were penalised by the unfortunatetiming of the safety car.

Fernando's team mate Felipe Massa has good memories ofValencia, having won the inaugural race in 2008 from pole. Hedid not take part the following year, and then last season hisrace was also ruined by the safety car, and he finished afrustrated 11th.

As mentioned earlier one man has finished second in everyValencia race so far, Lewis Hamilton. He has also qualified inthe top three each year, taking pole position in 2009. Clearly the

McLaren driver feels at home here, and there is no reason whyhe will not be a frontrunner again this year. Jenson Button wasa disappointed seventh in his Championship season in 2009,but was a solid third last year.

Back in '09 Jenson was of course driving for Brawn GP, and histeam mate Rubens Barrichello scored a great victory at thistrack. The team now known as Mercedes had a nightmare racein Valencia last season, with Nico Rosberg managing only 10thand Michael Schumacher out of the points after getting caughtout by the safety car. While the team struggled in Monaco, itshould be more competitive here if it can manage the tyresbetter.

The Renault team has been a solid performer this year, withVitaly Petrov and Nick Heidfeld taking a third place apiece in thefirst two races of the year. Petrov won the GP2 Feature race inboth 2008 and 2009, while Heidfeld did not have much luck onhis two outings in Valencia for BMW.

Last year Sauber had a great race to seventhplace here, thanks to Kamui Kobayashi and a typicallyclever strategy call by the team. The Japanese driver hasbeen consistently in the points, helped by the fact that thecar is kind on its tyres. Sergio Perez has been on thepodium in GP2 so he knows his way around.

Force India has been a regular in the points this year, andAdrian Sutil had a strong run to seventh in Monaco. Thecar is noted for good straightline speed, and that will nothurt this weekend. Paul di Resta is one of only two men inthe field who has not raced here in Formula 1 or GP2, buthe drove on Friday morning last year.

It has been something of a disappointing year thus far forToro Rosso, with the blue cars proving hard on their tyresand often slipping down the order. The team has scored afew points, but it has not matched the potential that pre-season testing suggested. Jaime Alguersuari will ofcourse be a crowd favourite, while Sbastien Buemi willbe hoping to better the ninth place he earned last season.

Tras una serie de adversidades que le haban dejadocon una gran impotencia y rezagado en la lucha por lospuntos, Sebastian Vettel sali desde la pole con su RedBull y consigui una emotiva y muy necesitada victoria.Este xito le permiti al alemn recuperarse y seguir luchandopor el Campeonato Mundial que acabara ganando en la ltimacarrera de la temporada disputada en Abu Dhabi.

Mark Webber se encontraba luchando y subiendo puestos trasuna parada de boxes tempranera hasta que protagoniz unaespectacular voltereta hacia atrs al tropezarse con el Lotus deHeikki Kovalainen, que iba a un ritmo ms lento. Unadelantamiento sensacional del piloto de Sauber KamuiKobayashi a Fernando Alonso sac a relucir la calidad del pilotojapons y complet un da psimo para la desafortunadaescudera italiana.

Y al margen de la pista, se conmemoraba un momento histricoen el automovilismo con la resucitada escudera Lotusregistrando su Gran Premio nmero 500. El director de LotusRacing Tony Fernandes lo celebr con estilo invitando al hijo deColin Chapman, Clive, que hoy en da dirige el equipo ClassicTeam Lotus, a celebrarlo junto con su familia. There was a stirring and very much-needed winfrom pole position for Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull,after a series of tribulations that had left himfrustrated and trailing in the points stakes. The successbounced the German back into contention for the WorldChampionship that he would eventually clinch in the final raceof the season in Abu Dhabi.

There was a spectacular backflip for team-mate Mark Webberafter he tripped over Heikki Kovalainens slower Lotus whilebattling his way back from an early pit stop. And a sensationalpass on Fernando Alonso by Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashiwhich completed a dismal day for the unlucky Italian squad andunderlined the quality of the Japanese racer.

And off the track an important piece of motor-racing history wascommemorated as the newly revived Lotus marque entered its500th Grand Prix. Lotus Racing team principal Tony Fernandesdid the celebrating in style as he invited Colin Chapmans sonClive, who oversees Classic Team Lotus these days, to attendtogether with members of his family. They brought along theoriginal Formula 1 Lotus the Mk 12 raced by Graham Hill andCliff Allison in 1958 to partner the modern-day T127s ofKovalainen and Jarno Trulli. Both of the new cars bore 500thRace logos, and at a downtown dinner for team friends andformer Team Lotus employees on Saturday night Fernandesspoke charismatically of his affection for the marque andreiterated his firm intention to continuecarrying the Chapman flame.

Vettel desperately needed a victory, afterWebbers triumphs in Spain and Monacoand then their controversial clash in Turkeyand Lewis Hamiltons success in Canada.

The young German led from the start,defending strongly against a forcefulHamilton and Fernando Alonso in the firstcorner, as Webber got hung out to dry in theheavy traffic and dropped to ninth from hissecond place on the grid.

After a pit stop for the harder Bridgestonetyres on the seventh lap the Australian wasrunning well down the order when he raninto the back of Kovalainen approachingTurn 17 in a mirror image repeat of anaccident between Rodolfo Gonzalez andJosef Kral in the mornings GP2 race.

Webbers Red Bull somersaulted backwardsthrough 180 degrees and landed upsidedown, flipped back on to its wheels, andthen speared headfirst into the tyre wall athigh speed. The Australian emergedbattered and bruised, but otherwisemercifully unhurt after an escape that wasthe best possible testament to the inherentstrength of the modern Formula 1 car.Television screens hummed around theworld with the first incident of its type inGrand Prix race since Riccardo Patresenearly flipped his Williams in Estoril in 1992after touching Gerhard Bergers McLaren orRalf Schumacher did likewise in his WilliamsBMW after running into Rubens

Vettel and Hamilton moved clear, but by notpitting when everyone else came in under thesafety car to change their supersoft tyres,Sauber got Kamui Kobayashi up to thirdplace, and there he stayed, keeping JensonButton at bay, until the 53rd lap when he hadfinally had to pit to switch to the option tyres.

That left Button third behind Hamilton, whohad been awarded a rapid drive-throughpenalty on the 27th lap after inadvertentlyovertaking the safety car as it emerged fromthe pits early in the race. He was able to getback out again before Kobayashi camethrough. The Ferraris lost out horribly with thesafety car intervention. Alonso was thirdbehind Vettel and Hamilton when he stoppedunder the safety car on the 10th lap, butemerged 10th by the time things settled downon the 12th lap. Felipe Massa fared evenworse, having to wait for his team-mate to beserviced, dropping from fourth to 17th. Theirunhappy day was completed when theirrepressible Kobayashi made a cheekyovertaking move to deprive Alonso of eighthplace in the final corner on the 56th lap,before snatching seventh from SbastienBuemi before the finish.

The result saw Hamilton retain his WorldChampionship lead with 127 points toButtons 121, but now Vettel jumped up tothird on 115 with Webber fourth on 103. z

Once again DHL will be awarding their FastestLap Trophy to the driver who attains the greatestnumber of fastest laps during the Grand Prixseason, and this will be the fifth year that theTrophy will be fought for.

En 1987, el auto que haba que tener era el Williams con motor Honda, y alequipo britnico lo integraba ese ao la pareja conformada por Nigel Manselly el dos veces campen del mundo Nelson Piquet. Aunque el britnico ganen ms oportunidades, el brasileo fue quien terminara en lo ms alto y sellevara el ttulo. After winter testing Red Bull Racing went into the season has hot favourites, and the teamhas not disappointed. Sebastian Vettel scored a superb win in Australia, and followed upwith another success in Malaysia. However, it is not as easy as it looks you need to geteverything right, as Mark Webber showed when he failed to make the podium in theopening two races. The Achilles Heel for the RB7 has been its KERS system, which wasnot used in Australia and which failed on Webber's car even before the start at Sepang.Nevertheless the team is now firmly established as the one everybody wants to beat.

Red Bull's weekend got off to a bad start when SebastianVettel crashed early in free practice. The car was repaired andhe was second in the afternoon, going on to capture pole onSaturday. KERS issues cost Mark Webber the whole of thefinal practice session and - without the system - he qualifiedfourth. Vettel led when the race got underway and severaltimes lost his advantage to safety cars. In the final segment ofthe race he was caught by Button, and lost his lead when heslid wide on the last lap. Webber was nudged into a spin byHamilton at the start but did a good job to recover to claimthird place.

Mark Webber came close to winning the title last year,finally losing out over the last two or three races as histeam mate came on strong. McLaren's preparations for the 2011 season verged on the disastrous as theMP426 showed neither pace nor reliability during winter testing in Spain. The teamtook the bold decision to abandon its novel but complex exhaust for the first race. Itpaid off as the car was instantly on the pace and able to challenge Red Bull. LewisHamilton took a fine second in Australia and Jenson Button repeated that result inMalaysia, and both times the silver cars left everyone but Vettel far behind. Hamiltonthen scored a brilliant win in China, showing that McLaren is in the title fight.

Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were fourth and fifth insecond free practice and in qualifying they could manage onlyfifth and seventh. The team felt it had come with too high adownforce package, while Lewis was hampered in qualifyingby a long seventh gear. Lewis had a wild first few laps afterhitting Webber at the start and then retired after he collidedwith his team mate on the pit straight. Jenson survived boththat impact and another with Alonso, each requiring stops fornew tyres. On slicks at the end he brilliantly caught andpassed Vettel to claim victory.

It is hard to believe that this is only Hamilton's fourthseason in Formula 1, so great has been his impact onthe sport. Hewas braced for a difficult 2011 season after McLaren'sstruggles in testing, and he was delighted whenupdates made the car competitive in Australia.
