Porsche Cayenne Tows Air France Jumbo Jet
A completely standard Porsche Cayenne has successfullytowed an Air France Airbus A380 weighing 285-tonnes.
The Cayenne, driven by Porsche GB technician RichardPayne, towed the aircraft over a distance of 42-metres atParis Charles de Gaulle Airport, to set a new Guinness WorldRecords title for Heaviest aircraft pull by a production car, by amargin of 115-tonnes.
Air France devoted its state-of-the-art engineering hangar andone of its fleet of 10 A380 aircraft to the project. The 60,000square metre hangar, which is large enough to house over3,000 examples of the Cayenne (or one very big aircraft), wasdesigned specifically to house the Air France Airbus A380 andis usually home to all the engineering and maintenanceactivity for the Air France fleet. The contrast between the twomachines was striking. The Porsche Cayenne (measuring4.8-metres in length) was connected to the most sophisticatedand largest passenger aircraft in the world, the Airbus A380(73-metres) via a special towing attachment that sat on theCayenne’s standard tow bar.
The Guinness World Records title was set by a Cayenne SDiesel, producing 385 hp (Fuel consumption combined 8.2 –8.0 l/100 km; CO2-emissions 215 – 209 g/km) and 850 Nm oftorque. The exercise was then repeated using a PorscheCayenne Turbo S.
Richard Payne, a technician at Porsche GB: “It did it – I’m sorelieved! We don’t usually go this far to test the limits of ourcars but I think today we got pretty close. I could tell that itwas working hard but the Cayenne didn’t complain and justgot on with it. My mirrors were quite full of Airbus, which wasinteresting. Our cars can go a bit beyond what our customersmight expect – they’re designed to be tough. But even so,
what the Cayenne did today was remarkable – we drove thecar here from London – and I plan to drive it home again,having towed an A380 in between. Credit should go to theteam in Stuttgart who developed the car – they did a thoroughjob. I’m also very grateful to Air France and its engineers fortheir generosity in allowing me to tow their beautiful aircraft.”

Porsche Displays New Line-up at New York Auto Show
The New York International Auto Show served as host to fourNorth American debuts for Porsche this year: Panamera SportTurismo, 911 GT3, Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, and 911GTS.
The Panamera Sport Turismo model features a unique designwith optional seating for five as well as a larger tailgate andluggage compartment, combining the performance and luxuryfor which the Panamera already is known with a higher levelof practicality. With a large tailgate, low loading edge,increased luggage compartment volume, the all-newPanamera Sport Turismo is one of the most versatile modelsin its class. Four different versions are available to order in theU.S.: Panamera 4, Panamera 4S, Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, andthe Panamera Turbo. The Panamera Sport Turismo modelswill be available with the corresponding four engines from thesport sedan: The Panamera 4 Sport Turismo is powered by a3.0 liter turbocharged V6 generating 330 hp, and willaccelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds with launchcontrol. The Panamera Sport Turismo models are expected toarrive in the United States at the end of 2017.
In the new, motorsport-derived 911 GT3 model, the centralfocus is the newly developed, high-revving naturally aspiratedflat-six engine making 500 hp and 339 lb.-ft. of torque thatrevs to 9,000 rpm. An available six-speed manualtransmission returns, and it will be offered as a no-costalternative to the seven-speed PDK dual clutch transmission.This new power plant is based on the one now used in 911race cars, including the 911 GT3 R and 911 RSR. Thanks to apower-to-weight ratio of 6.4 pounds per hp, the 911 GT3 feelsvery much at home on the track. With the standard seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) specifically constructedand tuned for the GT3 -- the 3,153-pound two-seateraccelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds with a
top track speed of 197 miles per hour.
The new Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid versions represent themost powerful Panamera models ever. The debut of the new680-hp Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid marks the first timePorsche has positioned a plug-in hybrid as the highestperforming variant of a standard model line. After thesuccessful debut of the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid - which uses atwin-turbo V6 engine combined with an electric motor - thePanamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is another compellingdemonstration of the performance advantages of hybridtechnology. Combining the 4.0-liter V8 engine from thePanamera Turbo with an electric motor, the Panamera TurboS E-Hybrid delivers a total output of 680 hp and 626 lb.-ft. oftorque. The 2018 Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is expected toreach U.S. dealers by the end of 2017.
The new 911 GTS models represent the highest performing911 Carrera and Targa variants, which also create a strongvalue proposition through a higher level of standardequipment and several performance enhancing features.Beginning with model year 2018, Porsche will include the firstscheduled maintenance service, at 10,000 miles or one year,as standard on all vehicles. Porsche is expanding the 911model line with five new GTS models: the 911 Carrera GTSwith rear-wheel drive, the 911 Carrera 4 GTS with all-wheeldrive - both available as a Coupe and Cabriolet - and the 911Targa 4 GTS with all-wheel drive. The 3.0-liter flat-six cylinderwith larger turbochargers delivers 450 horsepower, which is30 horsepower more than the current 911 Carrera S and 20horsepower above the previous, naturally-aspirated GTSmodel. All GTS variants are equipped as standard with aseven-speed manual transmission.
