2018 Dues reminder!!! Please make your dues payment

of $36 no later than February 28th! Payment by credit cards (in person only) with our Treasurer,

mail your check to the Membership chairman, or renew

on our website under “Membership”. Thank you!!

January is behind us and we are one month closer to tops down weather. First, I need

to make a correction regarding Daryl being our first Webmaster, he was not, however

he still did the job for many years and I thank him for that. While on this topic, our new

webmaster, Tom, has made several changes to our web page. I think you’ll like them

so, check them out.

Since I composed the last article before our Christmas party I wanted to send a big

THANK YOU to Gary and Char for a great party. If you did not attend, you missed a

good one. Thanks again for all the extra work you both did to make it come together

so well.

On January 7th we held our budget and planning meeting. I want to thank all who

came as it was well attended; 60+ people helped to forge the beginnings of our 2018

calendar. The budget is posted on the web, as well as events so check them out and

get signed up early. Don't forget about renewing your annual membership dues as

they are due no later than 2/28/18.

On January 14th, I held our first board meeting to address some topics that were

brought up by our members. The topics we discussed included redesigning our

website, newsletter editing, dues modifications, bylaws changes, and soliciting. We

also discussed the December meeting/party budget, and balancing the budget overall.

Our thoughts on these topics were introduced at the January general membership

meeting and had a favorable response from the club. A couple of highlights were the

obvious changes in the web site, and changing the dues payments to $36 for a year

but $20 for members joining in the last half of the year (July-December 31st). This will

eliminate the confusing step-down pricing currently in place.

At the January meeting, Dan Cali presented samples of possible new colors for this

year's T-shirt. Yellow with black print was selected by the membership present. He

also showed additional club shirts and jackets that we can now order. Get in touch

with Dan to learn more about it.

We have altered our website club calendar to allow you to click on a date and all the

current info will come up for you to see - so nice! Remember, in the month of

February, Dan and Terri are hosting the AWD on 2/6, Bob and Becca have a brunch

on 2/11, and, of course, our monthly meeting is on 2/15.

Exciting News for Treasury Tiffany Fonner, Treasurer I wanted to take a moment and let everybody know that the club has invested in a credit card/debit card reader. We are now able to take your credit and debit cards for purchases at our meetings and events in person. You can still use the PayPal feature online for renewals and new membership. This type of reader will allow us to accept payments for membership, Holiday dinners, merchandise, t-shirts and accessories at the meetings or events with your credit or debit card. Just to give a little background on this type of reader, the reader is a Square reader that is the brand that backs it up. There are no monthly fees, the company take 2.75% of each sale and they accept all card types. PayPal takes 2.99% + 0.30 for each transaction they do for us. Another feature the Square company has is gift cards. We are happy to announce that we do have gift cards available for purchase to give as a gift.

These gift cards can be used for anything that the club sells or even towards membership.

They are available in any amount that a person would like to put on them.

They do not have an expiration date so, if they have a balance, they can be used.

The gift cards are reusable so once you use the complete balance I will keep them for reuse keeping the cost of purchasing

new ones down.

Once again though, these need to be purchased at a meeting or event because I must be able to physically swipe your credit or debit cards. Any question or concern please email me at [email protected]

Rookies (new members) …… Tony Oriti

Greetings to all the NMC membership! This month we have added one new member, Mark Thomas. He lives in

Lakewood and drives a 2017 Gray RF. We currently have 252 members. Persons who do not live in the primary

member household are highlighted in a blue color on the membership roster. If any of those persons in blue are living

with the primary member, please let me know and I will change them to full members. I would like to sincerely thank

all the wonderful people who have helped me in my new position as membership director. As this is all new to me, I

more than welcome any constructive criticism.

Please be sure to send any updated mailing or emailing addresses to me via email at

[email protected]

Waiver Form Reminder: Those members who are putting on Miata Club functions will need a waiver

form signed by all non-members (or associates not living in the primary member’s home) who are attending that

function. Waiver forms may be printed from the Member’s Only page on the website. https://northcoast-

miata.com

Contact Mike Kerklo or Bob Mauer for the waiver forms if needed. Proposed Bylaw Changes: When the board met in January there was a vote to make a change to one of the club bylaws. This was discussed at the 1/18/18 general membership meeting with positive feedback. Article vii section 3 Annual dues will be collected to cover the expenses of the organization. Amount to be determined by the voting officers of Northcoast Miata Club.

Spring Miatas at the Gap XVIII Bill & Rancie Titley

It is time for the 18th annual spring trip to the Gap! This year’s trip will occur from May 13 through the 18th with a return to the Cleveland area on the 19th. We will be staying at the same motel as in previous years (see below). One new drive is planned for this year. Every day we schedule a different drive and or destination. You can come and go using whatever days fit your schedule. We have great drives on the fantastic Smoky Mountain roads every day.

Many Miatas drive the “Tail of the Dragon” daily, which equals 318 curves in an 11 mile stretch of 2 lane nirvana! Other drives include the “Foothills Parkway”, the “Cherahola Skyway”, the “Devil’s Triangle”, and other local notorious “twisty” roads. Plan to drive a lot, eat too much, and have great fellowship with other Miata wackos! We will be staying at the Highland Manor Inn in Townsend, TN. Call (800) 213-9462 or e-mail at www.highlandmanor.com.

This year’s rates are $75/night for 5 or more nights and $85/night for 3-4 nights and $100 for 1 or 2 nights. Be sure to tell them you are with the Miata group to get the special rates. Rancie & I will be arriving around noon on Sunday, May 13th to begin the fun. Call me at (386) 478-1233 or (740) 269-1723 with any questions. Don’t miss out on all the great fun! Zoom! Zoom!

Annual Planning Meeting Mike Kerklo On January 7th, we held our annual planning meeting for the Miata Club at Western Reserve Masonic Community, 4931 Nettleton Rd. Medina, OH 44256. At 1:00 pm, the executive board members and officers met to discuss the budget and other details concerned with the functioning of the club. At 2:30 pm the general planning meeting began. Our club’s calendar for 2018 events was started with such things as Around the World Dinners, drives, lunches, picnics, Rallyes, and overnight excursions. More events will be added as the year continues. Following the meeting 57 members traveled to January's AWD at the nearby Brown Derby, 5051 Eastpointe Dr., Medina, OH A lot was accomplished at the meeting and the dinner began another Miata year of food and friendship!

Dinner at the Medina Brown Derby was enjoyed by almost

5 dozen Miata club members.
