Dear Friends, It is with mixed emotions that I bid farewell and announce my retirement from the Florida Marlins on July 15, 2010. This year marks my 14 th season with the team and I have only missed 11 home games! I will depart with two World Series rings, but most importantly with wonderful friendships and memories of a sport that I truly love. It has been an honor to serve South Florida through the Community Affairs/Outreach Department and the Marlins Community Foundation. We have been able to make a positive impact where we work and play through the support and generosity of our players, coaches, front office staff and most importantly you. Now, I’m looking forward to attending the baseball games and this time I will be able to keep score! The Padres series will wrap up my final homestand and I hope you will join me at the Fantasy Auction on June 25 th to celebrate and reminisce! Thank you for all the special moments, the great memories, the games, the opportunity to serve our community and for being a part of my life. I hope to see you at the games. Go Marlins! The Marlins Spring Training Youth Baseball Clinic was held on Sunday, March 14th after the Marlins vs. Mets game at Roger Dean Stadium. The sold-out event featured an unforgettable experience for 100 children and families. The kids learned from the pros about the fundamentals of baseball including pitching, hitting, fielding and base-running. A warm thanks to Jim Presley, Batting Coach; Chris Volstad, Pitcher; Brett Carroll, Outfielder; and Gaby Sanchez, Infielder for volunteering their time to teach the clinic. The highly anticipated Party with the Foundation took place on Sunday, March 21 on the Party Deck at Roger Dean Stadium. The event offered a chance to bid on auctions, win raffle prizes, enjoy a buffet and help raise funds for the Florida State League scholarship program. Tim Wood and Brian Sanches participated in a Q & A session for Party guests. The 2nd Annual Basebowl Tournament, co-chaired by outfielders Cameron Maybin and Brett Carroll was held on Saturday, March 27 at Jupiter Lanes. The event featured the first-ever Charity Challenge where the Marlins Foundation donated $1,000 to the winning team’s charity of choice. The 25 participating teams bowled for their favorite charity while enjoying food and refreshments. This year’s winning team was JJ Muggs and their charity of choice was Give a Smile to a Child Foundation, an organization meant to provide aid, assistance, facilities, educational opportunities and support to children and families in need. “We are proud of the work we accomplished during Spring Training and we couldn’t have done it without South Florida’s support,” said Nancy Olson, Executive Director. “Several worthy charities took home special donations to further their cause and we are happy to be a part of that.” Other charities benefiting from the funds raised during Spring Training include Women of Tomorrow, the Palm Beach County Sports Institute, and the Florida State League Scholarship Program.

This month we highlight Renee Rozlog who has volunteered since 2000 and just happens to be one of Nancy Olson’s sisters. Baseball is a family game and volunteering for the Marlins has given Renee and Nancy an opportunity to share time together while helping the community. Here is what Renee, a former Rose Hicks Volunteer of the Year, had to say about the experience: “I have enjoyed volunteering for the Florida Marlins Community Foundation for the past 10 years. I started selling raffle tickets and went to running the Super Saturday Raffle. I have met so many great fans and staff. They feel like part of our family! Volunteering has given me the great pleasure of knowing that we are helping kids plus I get to spend quality time with my sister.” The Olson family: Nancy, Bob, Renee and Anita at the 2008 Awards Dinner.

The Marlins Community Foundation welcomes NuPress of Miami, the official printer of the Foundation. NuPress joined the Marlins Foundation soon after attending the Marlins Awards Dinner during Caravan for Earth Week. Their involvement with the Foundation signifies that more of the dollars raised will go directly to the children and families of South Florida. NuPress offers a full-range of printing services. They understand that “printing” is not a single handed service, thus have structured their operation to offer the full spectrum, from the most advanced lithography, binding and pre-press technologies, to a newly formed service of fulfillment around the nation and abroad. These capabilities make NuPress a diverse company, allowing them to deliver Miami's finest collateral materials to a respected group of large-scale companies, small businesses and individuals. SOUTH FLORIDA CUSTOMERS RAISE MORE THAN $1.3 MILLION THROUGH PUBLIX SUPER MARKETS’ ANNUAL “FOOD FOR ALL” FUNDRAISER

Publix Super Markets Miami Division and customers raised $1,372,454.08 to benefit community based charities during their an-nual “Food For All” holiday season campaign. The six-week Food For All fundraiser appeared in stores from November 15 through December 26, 2009 and customers could make a contribution at the register by simply purchasing $1, $3, and $5 contri-bution coupons. The formal check presentation took place on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 where checks were distributed to more than 60 South Florida non-profit agencies. The Marlins Community Foundation was amongst its beneficiaries. “Publix customers and associates showed extraordinary support for their communities and local charities. Thanks to their gener-osity we can help make a positive impact for thousands in need in South Florida,” said Bill Fauerbach, Publix Miami Division’s Vice President of Retail Operations. Publix is privately owned and operated by its 141,000 employees, with 2009 sales of $24.3 billion. Currently Publix has 1,012 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. The company has been named one of FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America” for 13 consecutive years. For more information, please visit www.publix.com. George Jenkins founded Publix with the spirit of giving in mind. He was once asked, "If you hadn't given away so much, how much do you think you would be worth today?" His response, without hesitation: "Probably nothing." In tribute to his shining example, Publix continues to be a corporate giving leader. In addition to giving to thousands of local projects, Publix annually supports five organizations in companywide campaigns: Special Olympics, March of Dimes, Children's Miracle Network, United Way and Food For All. Food For All is a charitable marketing organization that runs point-of-purchase fundraisers in over 6,000 grocery retailers nationwide. Since the organization’s inception in 1985, over $58 million has been raised for charities in the United States and abroad. For more information about Food For All, please visit www.foodforall.org.

I grew up in a city that is sports-crazy; in this city, you live and die with the team. And in this city, there is no doubt, baseball was and always will be King. When I was little, you played wiffle ball until it got dark, then you would go home and listen to the game on the radio. My father would take my brothers and me to the ballpark when he could, and he taught us about baseball and how to keep score; I think I could score a game before I knew how to write my name. Baseball has always been a mainstay throughout my life; no matter what town I lived in, and even during those times in life when maybe my father and I were not getting along…we still had baseball… we could always talk about baseball. I am fortunate now to have the means to make a difference for others, both professionally and through organizations such as the Florida Marlins Community Foundation. I was lucky to have a close family with tons of cousins surrounded by neighbors that looked out for one another. Today, things are different. Many kids come home to an empty house; doors are locked; they go to school hungry; and sometimes they may go to bed hungry. Some don’t even go to school and others don’t have a home to go to - even more so during these tough times. To put it simply, the Foundation is all about kids. Kids right here in South Florida; Kids who need direction, a friend and an education; Kids who deserve the opportunity to learn about art, about sports and about teamwork. And most importantly about what life has to offer beyond what they can see or dream about. And by the way, they can also learn about baseball.
