2—TheSuppressed“GoodNews”

“Wedoknow thatnopersoncanbesavedexcept throughChrist.Wedonot know that only thosewho knowHim can be saved byHim.”

―C.S.Lewis

In theBible, theGreek translated into theEnglishword“gospel”meansgood news. And the original Christian disciples heard good news fromJesusChrist that turned their livesupside-down.Some left their jobs tosharethat news;while others risked death to reach for a spiritual goaltheyesteemedfarmorevaluablethananythingwithintheearthlyrealm.

These early converts had a “vision” that modern Christians just don’thave.

So let’s begin to re-discover that vision by reading about some of themostevilpeoplethathaveeverlived—andwhatGodpromisestothesepeople.

IIKings21:1-7:

Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and hereigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name wasHephzibah.Hedidevil in thesightof theLORD,according to theabominationsof thenationswhomtheLORDdispossessedbeforethesonsofIsrael.

ThenhesetthecarvedimageofAsherahthathehadmade,inthehouse(God’s temple)ofwhichtheLORDsaid toDavidandtohissonSolomon,“InthishouseandinJerusalem,whichIhavechosenfromallthetribesofIsrael,IwillputMynameforever.”

King Manasseh and the Israelite populace seemingly rejoiced inexecuting evil and rebelling against God. And according to traditionalChristian theology, theseare thevery kindsof peopleGodwouldmostcertainlytormentinHell.

But now readEzekiel 37:9-11,wherewe find a surprising outcome forthesepeople.HerewehaveaprophecyabouttheentireNationofIsrael, which includes all of Jacob’s descendants. And by definition, “all”includesthepeoplewejustreadaboutinIIKings.Readthisastonishingprophecy:

Therefore,JohncertainlybelievedwhatJesussaid inJohn6:33—thatHediedforthe“whole”world,andnotjustforthosewhoareChristians.

everyhumanbeingcanbesaved, if they hear the gospel, believe andthen repent. But Christian theology then goes on to limit the time ofsalvation, by stipulating that God can save only those who hear thegospelwithintheirhumanlifetime.

____

PaulDisagreeswithChristianTheology

Let’sreadwhattheapostlePaulwroteinRomans5:18-19:

Sothenasthroughonetransgressionthereresultedcondemnationtoallmen, evensothroughoneactofrighteousnessthereresultedjustification of life to all men. For as through the one man’sdisobedience themany weremade sinners, even so through theobedienceoftheOnethemanywillbemaderighteous.

Noambiguityhere:Paulplainlywrote that“justificationof life”—bytheactionsandworksofChristthatprovidedforrepentance,forgivenessandsalvation—willcomeupon“all”men.

Yetitcertainlydidnotcomeuponthose65billionwhoneverheardaboutChrist!

Wealready reviewedstatistics proving that themajority of humanity—“the many” — never had any chance at salvation. Nevertheless, Paulwrote“themany”willbemaderighteous.

SoPaul’sposition flies in the faceof traditionalChristianity’sbelief thatGod only saves those called in this human life. And this is why sometheologiansbalkatPaul’suseof“allmen”inverse18,arguingtheversemeans just the opposite of what it says. These theologians have noproblemopenlycontradictingourLordandSavior:

“ForthebreadofGodisthatwhichcomesdownoutofheaven,andgiveslifetotheworld”(John6:33).

“…Ididnotcometojudgetheworld,buttosavetheworld”(John12:47).”

PaulClarifiesHisPosition

Page 15: Executed to Suppress His MessageSo up until the 17th Century — or about 1,600 years from the time Jesus originally preached His gospel — access to the biblical writings was heavily

Now I grant you that in Romans 5:18-19, Paul did not state that Godintends to save “all” of humanity. But Paul was just warming up. LetcontinuewithwhathewroteinColossians1:19-20:

ForitwastheFather’sgoodpleasureforallthefullnesstodwellinHim, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, havingmade peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whetherthingsonearthorthingsinheaven.

Didyougetthat?PaulwrotethatGodtheFatherisreconciling“allthings”toHimself.

But yet again, institutionalized theologians arguewithwhatPaulwrote. Here is how one biblical commentator tried to nullify Paul’s statement:“(thisverse)…relatesonlytothosethingswhichareinheavenandearth—forthoseonlyarespecified.Nothingissaidoftheinhabitantsofhell.”Obviously,Hell issuchan integralpartof thisman’s thinking, thateventhewordsofanapostlecannotchangehisviews.

Nevertheless,PauldidwritethatGodwillreconcile“allthings”toHimself—andtheGreekmeanstofullyreconcile.Furthermore,Paulwentontoexplainhow“allthings”—thosesamethingsthatwillbefullyreconciledtoGod—includethingsonearthandthingsinHeaven.

Sohere’san interestingquestion:WasPaulsuggestingthatGodsavessomeofthelostinHeaven?

Let’sreadRomans11:30-32andbegintofindout:

HerePaulplainlystatesthatGodwillshowmercyto“all”people.ThusheagreeswithwhatJesussaidinJohn6:33and12:47:Godisnoteternallycondemning unsaved sinners. And He intends to offer salvation andeternallifetoeveryone.

____

Page 16: Executed to Suppress His MessageSo up until the 17th Century — or about 1,600 years from the time Jesus originally preached His gospel — access to the biblical writings was heavily

Finally,let’sreadwhatPaulwroteinICorinthians15:21-22:

For since by a man came death, by a man also came theresurrectionof thedead.Foras inAdamalldie, evenso inChristshallallbemadealive.

By now, it should be clear that Paul disagrees with modern Christiantheology.ForPaulwrotethateveryonethathasdied—eventhosewhodiedonearthwithoutChristandHissalvation—willberesurrectedandgivenanewlife.

Sofollowthislogic:

If“all”peopleshallagainbemadealive;

AndGodwillshowmercyto“all”people;

AndGodintendstofullyreconcile“all things” inHeavenandearthtoHimself.

Then how can God condemn more than 65 billion sinners who neverevenheardthenameJesusChrist, without first trying to reconcilewiththem?

But for thosewhooccasionallybear thenameDoubtingThomas, thereremains one final and conclusive proof that God intends to saveeveryone:

“Declareandsetforthyourcase;Indeed,letthemconsulttogether.Whohasannouncedthisfromofold?Whohaslongsincedeclaredit?IsitnotI,theLORD?AndthereisnootherGodbesidesMe,ArighteousGodandaSavior;ThereisnoneexceptMe.TurntoMeandbesaved,alltheendsoftheearth;ForIamGod,andthereisnoother”(Isaiah45:21-22).

Thesubjectofthispassageissalvation.Yettobecertain,IlookeduptheHebrew translated into the English “saved.” It precisely means: to besaved. In fact, theOld Testament uses this word when it refers to theLordGodasour“Savior.”

AlsonoticehowthisprophecyisnotaddressedtotheIsraelites;neitherisitdirectedatChristiansor theChurch. Instead, it’saddressedto“all theendsof theearth.”TheoriginalHebrewmeans to theendsof theearthwithoutany limits.Andthis iswhytheContemporaryEnglishVersionoftheBiblerendersthisverseasfollows:

“Iinvitethewholeworldtoturntomeandbesaved.”

4—Conclusion

Since the days when the Messiah walked the earth, institutionalizedChristian religions have been systematically replacing our Lord’s “goodnews”withhumanly-deriveddoctrinesdesignedtofocusourattentiononchurches and their leaders, rather than the teachings of Jesus Christ.Andjustlikethe1stCenturyreligiousleaderswhoturnedagainstourLordand Savior, modern Christian leaders work to suppress what Jesustaught.

Andwhydotheydothis?

Because if God’s people were to discover that Jesus is their “only”spiritual leaderand teacher—then learn thatsalvation isnot limited tothose who accept Christ while they are alive on planet earth — theywould soon come to realize how there is little need for institutionalizedchurches.
