COURSE INFORMATION ONLINE: http://cusp.nyu.edu/ExecEd
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Center for Urban Science and Progress executive program will
highlight the skills required to partner with senior management and key
executives within your organization in order to design and implement city
analytics and urban informatics initiatives that deliver measurable, scalable
results.
Each module will offer high-level understandings on concepts in urban
science & informatics as well as providing current insights and
developments in research. Over the course of the three days, trends,
challenges, and opportunities for big data applications for urban systems
will be addressed. Additionally, such critical informatics skills as data
management and mining of massive datasets, data science and analytics,
and information visualization will be reviewed with particular focus on the
practical aspects of developing and deploying solutions in urban
environments.
The program sessions are taught by expert faculty, researchers, and
practitioners using case studies, cohort discussions, and professional
coaching.

ADVANCED CERTIFICATEApplied Urban Science & Informatics
Engage in the study and practice of urban science with New York City as your laboratory and classroom. A two-semester project sequence, in collaboration with MS students to apply the principles of informatics to address an actual, current urban challenge in a particular domain and with a specific city agency.
CUSTOM PROGRAMS OnsiteCohort Sessions
We also offer this course, and other information sessions for cohort groups of 10 or more from the same organization. Please contact the CUSP Office of Education ([email protected]) to discuss your educational needs.
By the program’s end, you will have a foundation in urban informatics and city analytics that will empower you to contribute to making cities more efficient, livable and resilient.

Our work will generate new understanding and technologies, and in turn
new ventures and new jobs. More broadly, we will share the lessons we learn
with the rest of the world to make cities around the planet better places to
live and work.

LEARNING OBJECTIVESToday's cities generate data at astounding rates. Take NYC for example. Its agencies produce nearly a terabyte of digital information daily on everything from traffic tickets to 311 calls. Managing such massive amounts of data is difficult. Putting them to use is even harder. CUSP’s three-day Urban Informatics and City Analytics program develops your ability to address city and organizational challenges with large-scale data from a variety of sources.
You will gain the following knowledge and competencies as a participant:
> Create and Manage:
Discover how to establish and sustain an urban informatics program in your organization, and how to make it work effectively with other organizations.
> Use Large-Scale Datasets:
Find Remedies to fundamental city problems in the developed and developing worlds are locked away in vast stores of data. Hone skills to help uncover them.
> Understand Urban Informatics:
An understanding of urban science and urban informatics and their relationship to the operation and development of cities.
> Identify and Assess Problems:
To arrive at a solution, you must start with a clear problem. Learn how to identify a problem, evaluate data needs, and determine analytical approaches for complex urban challenges.
> Data-Driven Decision Making:
Experience and intuition remain critical, but data has an increasingly important role in decision-making. Find out how to lead data-driven decision-making and analytical problem solving processes.
