    A SAMPLE OPINION ESSAY ( FOR & AGAINST )

Should animals be used in testing new drugs and procedures?

    Animal Testing

Medical research involving animals has dramatically improved the health of the human

race. Without animal testing, the cure for polio would not exist and diabetics wouldsuffer or die from their disease. Despite these benefits, some people believe thatanimals should not be used for testing medical techniques and drugs.

Animal testing allows scientists to test and create new drugs. Animals such asmonkeys or rabbits have similar physical processes to humans. This allows scientiststo test the effects of certain drugs. If a drug produces adverse effects in animals it isprobably unfit for human use. Animal testing is cheap. There is a large supply ofanimals for medical research. Animals are easily bred, and maintained safely incontrolled labs. The costs of testing in humans would be extremely high.

Many people argue that animal testing is cruel. In some cases this is true. However itwould be much more cruel to test new drugs on people or children, or to let people die

because there was not enough information about a drug. Furthermore, legislation inmost countries sets standards for animal treatment, and laboratories have guidelines toprevent cruelty.

Opponents of animal research also say that information from animals does not apply tohumans. They point to certain commercial drugs which have been withdrawn becauseof side-effects in humans. While it is true that animal systems differ from humansystems, there are enough similarities to apply information from animals to humans.

Animal rights campaigners claim that we dont need new tests because we alreadyhave vast amounts of information. However, many new deadly infections appear everyyear and new treatments and drugs are needed to combat these deadly plagues.

To sum up, animal testing is needed in the world we live in. Our responsibility is tomanage the animals in our care and balance their suffering against the good that

    comes from them.

For and Against essay about abortion

From the list of main problems of todays world that mankind has to face with ,the problem of abortion is definitely not to be missed one. Many discussions and

opinions have been dedicated to this matter, however, it is still hard to find an eventualstandpoint. The answer to the question whether abortion should be utterly banned isnot unanimous; opinions differ.

Looking at the bright side of abortion, it is the only way to prevent fromunwanted pregnancy. Most of women who have fallen prey to rape get pregnant.Although an abortion done because of rape seems to be justified, basing on CPFstatistics only 1% of abortions are performed because of rape or incest. Another pointof view in favour of abortion is that the born child is not exposed to lack of security andessentials. Parents often decide on abortion in case of not disposing funds in order toprovide a child with all it needs.

On the other hand, from the religious point of view abortion is a sin against thefifth Decalogues precept. We must be aware of the fact that we are not masters of life

and death and cannot make such decisions, else it is just a murdery of an innocentbeing. Furthermore, abortion may result in many unpleasant complications such ashaemorrhages as well as infections or even mothers death. In addition to this, mothershave to deal with the pain and guilt and shame of knowing that they destroyed a lifethat was growing inside of them.

All things considered, in my opinion acting pro-abortion is wrong as well asdoing it. Legalizing this grisly procedure leads to the situation when the man-institutedlaw becomes more important than order established by God. By the way, what a cruellaw punishes innocent the greatest punishment?

A university education leads to success in life. Do you agree?College and Success in Life

It is very difficult to answer the claim that a person needs a university education

to be successful in life because success in life means different things to differentpeople. There are three different ideas of success and which types of success aredependent on a university education.

Success in life can be achieved in different ways. Many magazines andtelevision programmes tell us that success means having a lot of money, having afulfilling career, and being powerful. In contrast, most religious and spiritualorganizations claim that success means finding spiritual happiness and being at peacewith God and with yourself. Another idea of success focuses on relationships - beingsurrounded by people who love you and care about you, spending time with family andfriends.

A university education can help you achieve some types of success, but it

makes little or no difference to whether or not you are successful in other areas of life.Undoubtedly, a university education is essential if you want to have a career in aprofession such as law, engineering, teaching, or medicine. However, you do not needa university degree to become a wealthy and powerful movie star, sports star orbusinessperson. In fact, a university education does not generally enable you toachieve spiritual happiness, or to have successful relationships with family and friends.

In conclusion, there are many different types of success. A university education may

help you to achieve professional success in some careers. However, it will not help you

to achieve success in other areas of your life such as your spiritual life or your

    relationships.

Censorship is necessary in modern society. Discuss.

Censorship is an issue which frequently generates a great deal of heated debate, with supporters maintaining that it is vital in order to protect society, whilst opponentsclaim that it is an unjustifiable restriction of public access to information.

Firstly, all countries have secrets which must be safeguarded for reasons ofnational security. For instance, if an enemy country were to acquire such highlysensitive information, the effects could be catastrophic. Consequently, governments

have to have the power to restrict access to information concerning areas such as thearmed forces or particular aspects of foreign policy.

Secondly, it is often argued that censorship is necessary to prevent the broadcastand publication of obscene material which is considered offensive or harmful to publicmorals. Many people feel that, without censorship the public would be constantlysubjected to material that the majority would find offensive. For this reason, thegovernment has a duty to impose certain restrictions on the mass media by censoringfilms and texts which contain explicit scenes of sex, violence or foul language.

In contrast, opponents of censorship point out that when it is abused bygovernments, censorship becomes an instrument used to misinform society andmaintain power. In order to control the flow of information which riches the public, repressive regimes try to put constraints on the media, thus denying citizens the right toinformation owing to the fact that governments believe it may lead them to seek greaterfreedom.

Furthermore, it is generally felt that mature adults are able to make informedchoices about what they watch, read and listen to and should, therefore, be permittedto make their own decisions. For example, some comedians make use of offensive

language taboo subjects in their performances. Critics of censorship argue that the onlypeople who will watch or listen to such material are adults who have made a consciousdecision to do so. Thus, it is claimed, it is unjust to censor material like this since it isnot forced upon people who may subsequently be offended by it.

All things considered, it can be concluded tha a certain degree of censorship isalways necessary. The best course of action would be to attempt to achieve a balancebetween the requirements of the country and the public on the one hand, andindividuals rights on the other.
