November is the month we honor

our Veterans. As Elks we believe as

long as there are Veterans, we will

never forget them. For Veterans

Day, the Lodge will be hosting a

luncheon in November honoring our Elk Veterans and a

guest of their choice. In remembrance of those values we

share, the Lodge will be taking donations of toiletries, T-

shirts, house shoes, snacks, magazines, stationary, or any-

thing you can think that might be useful to a Veteran in

need. The items donated will be taken to the Corpus

Christi VA Clinic. There will be a box in the social quar-

ters, let us see how we as a Lodge can lighten some of

their burdens.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, I hope your

Holiday is a happy, healthy, and safe one. As we enter

into the holiday season let us all keep the families in our

prayers who have been devastated by the many hurricanes

and the west coast wildfires.

Just a heads up, December 6th is the Elk Memorial Ser-

vice, please make plans to attend. This solemn event is an

opportunity to invite non-Members to honor the lives and

contributions of our dearly departed Brothers and Sisters.

This is our chance to show the public that “Elks are never

Elks Veterans Remembrance Month

An estimated twenty million Veterans are living in our commu-

nities. Each with a different story, they all shared a common

pledge: to support and defend this country.

In an effort to honor and support these Veterans, Elks National

President Paul R. Ryan has proclaimed November to be Veter-

ans Remembrance Month.

The Elks have a pledge. “So long as there are Veterans, the Be-

nevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them.”

And that’s as true today as it was more than 100 years ago, in

1918 when the Elks built a 700 bed hospital in Boston and do-

nated it to the government, helping to create a precursor for to-

day’s VA Medical Centers.

This November, as well as every month of the year, Elks will

serve thousands of Veterans across the country. When Veterans

are hospitalized and recovering, Elks are there. When Veterans

are living in a home away from family, Elks are there. When

Veterans are exiting homelessness and moving into a home,

Elks are there. Because Elks are always there for Veterans. Al-

together, our volunteers served more than 1 million Veterans

last year, in ways big and small.

This Veterans Remembrance Month, we urge you to join the

Elks in recognition of and service to the Veterans in your com-

munity. Let us remember the words of Elk member and Presi-

dent John F. Kennedy who said, “As we express our gratitude,

we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter

words but to live by them.”

There are nearly 1,800 Elks Lodges across the country with a

total membership of around 800,000. Elks members must be

American citizens who are at least 21 years of age and must

believe in God. To learn more and to join us in service, visit
