As I have said time and time again, our words are so very important andeven more so when it comes to praying and the confession that follows ourprayers. A person once asked me, “Pastor Price, it says in the Bible in I John5:14-15: that ‘if we know’ then why can’t we pray I know that I have received.”Well, because the Word of God says I have to “believe” the Word. The rea-son our confession is stated in this manner is to claim in faith what God hasalready fulfilled by His Word. Verse 14-15 again, “Now this is the confidencethat we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears

us. And if we know that He hears us....” How do weknow that He hears us? Well, God said He did. Butyou may say, “I never heard the Father say He heardme.” Since we never heard God talk to us personally,we have to believe that He heard us, don’t we?Therefore, it is a matter of our faith in His Word.

I have spent the greater part of my ministry teach-ing that prayer must be spoken in faith. Otherwise, why pray? Prayer is our lifeline to God—and this issueis dedicated to our communication with the HeavenlyFather.

This issue’s feature story is dedicated to the prayer of faith. Read howyou can take hold of the power of prayer and live in God’s power. SharonWashington, a member of Crenshaw Christian Center, talks about how sheconfessed the Word of God and overcame her weight battles. My wife, Dr.Betty, shares her heart for intercessory prayer and how you too can go toGod on behalf of others. Though not prayer related, Pastor Robert Boldenshares a very important teaching on the subject of Strife.

Remember that you can go boldly before God’s throne as His child.Never forget the great opportunity that you have in prayer. There’s so muchpower there!

The prayer of faith moves the hand of God. Itbrings God present on the scene of your circum-stances. The prayer of faith works, but it doesn’twork unless you’re praying it according to therules that are laid down in the Word of God. Youneed to know that so you can know whether youare, in fact, praying the prayer of faith. Now, let’sfind out what the prayer of faith is. Turn to Mark11:24. Jesus is speaking and He says:

“Therefore I say to you, whatever things youask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

ow, whether you’re aware of it or not Mark 11:24is the prayer of faith. The prayer of faith is pri-marily a prayer you pray for you. It is primarily apetition kind of prayer. A petition prayer is aprayer where you’re asking God for somethingfor you, or asking Him to do something for you.In Mark 11:24 Jesus says:

“Therefore I say to YOU, whatever things YOU ask whenYOU pray, believe that YOU receive them, and YOU will havethem.

He didn’t say, “…whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that SHE receives them, and SHE will have them.” Thereare other kinds of prayers that you pray when you’re praying forsomeone else, but we’re talking about the prayer of faith and how itworks for you. Now look at Matthew 21:21-22:

21 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to YOU, if YOU havefaith and do not doubt, YOU will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but alsoif YOU say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done.

22 “And whatever things YOU ask in prayer, believing, YOU will receive.”

That means that if I ask for a brown car I’m not going to get agreen one. If I got a green one then God didn’t answer my prayer,

because He told me that whatever Iask, believing, I’ll have that. If I didn’tget that, then apparently God didn’tanswer that prayer. If He didn’tanswer, then He violated His ownWord because He said whatever I askthat’s what I’m going to get. He neversaid, “whatever things you ask whenyou pray, believe that you receive them, and you’ll get something like that, orsomething that resembles that, orsomething that’s closely associatedwith that.” No, He said, whatever youask for you’ll get that.

Let’s return to Mark 11, and let’slook at something else about the prayerof faith.

“Therefore I say to you, whateverthings you ask when you pray, believethat you receive them, and you willhave them.”

Take special notice of the wordbelieve. All people who are notChristians, and too many who are

Christians, are bound by their senses. And I can understand why, because all that we’ve learned through our educational processeshave been through our senses. We relate to the universe and theenvironment around us through our senses, and there’s nothing

wrong with that. You have to live in the physicalworld. But the world of God is a world of the spirit. You’ve got to get your petition into the world of thespirit first, and then it comes back and affects theworld of the physical. But what happens is so many

Christians try to move in the physical first to cause somethingto happen in the spiritual. They never get to the spiritual

because they’re bound by the physical, and they allow thephysical to dictate to them, to tell them where they are

with God.Jesus said, “believe that you receive them.” He

By Apostle Frederick K.C. Price

NN

Page 7: Ever Increasing Faith Ministries Magazine - Spring 2010

didn’t say see that you receive them. He didn’t say understand thatyou receive them, and He surely didn’t say feel like you receivethem. He just said believe it. And yet how many of you have beenprayed for concerning a physical condition in your body, and afteryou were prayed for you began to check your body, and you had thesame pain, the same knot, the same lump, the same growth? So youconcluded, because of what your senses told you, I’m still sick, itdidn’t work, it must not be God’s will to heal me. That’s exactly whyit didn’t work! It’s because you didn’t believe you received. Youwere looking to feel like it, and because you didn’t feel it, you doubt-ed that it actually happened.

He said to “believe that you receive.” You say, “How can I believe I’m healed when my body still has

pain in it?” Simple. Let’s say you get a job. You will be paid weekly, and

payday is on Fridays. Though you haven’t seen the first check, youdon’t hesitate to say to your wife, relatives and friends, “I’ve got ajob, and I’m going to get paid on Friday. And the man told me he’sgoing to pay me $650 a week.”

How can you dare to say you’re going to get paid when youhave not seen the money, andyou have no money in your wal-let? How can you say you’regoing to get paid when youhaven’t seen the money yet?

“Yes, but Brother Price, theman told me that he was goingto pay me.”

Well, I’m here to tell you thatthe Man – Jesus – said that if youbelieve you receive it you’ll get it.It’s the same principle.

Furthermore, you don’t goaround to prayer services all thatweek telling people, “My employ-er said he’s going to pay me onFriday, but I don’t knowwhether he will. I want you tostand in agreement with me thathe’ll pay me on Friday.”

No, in fact, you have suchgreat confidence in the word ofthat employer that you’ll go outand negotiate with someone for a new car, or a new house, or adress, or a charge account, and the first thing you’ll tell them is, “Igot a job. I get paid on Friday and I’ll start making payments nextweek.” You don’t even have the money yet. Even worse, you haven’tseen Mr. So-and-so’s checking account. You don’t really know if hehas the money in the bank, but you took him at his word. Why can’tyou give God equal time?

The prayer of faith is believing that you receive without seeingor feeling anything. Just by virtue of the fact that your employer saidit, you took him at his word. You believed his word and you startedsaying it. You started counting up that $650 and figuring howyou’re going to spend it. Well, if you’re believing God for healingyou ought to do the same thing.

When you exercise the prayer of faith you have to pray and youhave to believe that you receive. When you operate in the prayer offaith, there is no sight – meaning no physical senses – involved.

Hebrews 11:1:Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is the evidence or proof of things not seen. If you see it,you don’t need any faith because faith is the evidence or proof ofthings not seen. What is evidence or proof? Evidence or proof isthat which takes the place of the thing until the thing arrives. If youthe have evidence, that means that you don’t have the thing that theevidence takes the place of. Once the thing arrives, you don’t needproof or evidence, because you have the thing. If faith is my evi-dence of things not seen, that means I can’t look to anything in thesense realm to validate my faith. I have to look to a higher source, which is the Word of God. I doesn’t matter what I see with mysenses, because my senses don’t always tell me the truth. What aremy senses? My senses are the pain, or the tumor that I may feel inmy body. That is in the sense realm. How do I know that tumor isthere? I feel it, or I have pain. Now turn to

2 Corinthians 4:18:While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are

not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are notseen are eternal.

There are two kinds of things – a seen thing and an unseenthing. He’s saying to us, who are Christians, don’t look at thethings, which are seen. Now He did not say that they weren’t there,or to deny their existence. If they really didn’t exist, you could notlook at them anyway, so there wouldn’t be any need to tell you notto look at what’s not there.

Prayer is the vehicle by which you release your faith. There isno sight involved in operating by faith. He says very plainly, whilewe do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things whichare not seen. The way we look at the things that are eternal is by theWord of God. Let’s look at two other verses.

1 John 5: 14-15: 14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything

according to His will, He hears us.

Wouldn’t the opposite of that be: If I don’t ask according to Hiswill He doesn’t hear me? This regulation is His rule. If Godrequires me to ask Him according to His will in order for Him tohear me, then that puts God under an obligation to make His willavailable to me, or else I would never have any way of knowingwhether I had asked according to His will. Therefore, I wouldnever have any confidence that He heard me when I prayed.

A lot of times people say, “Well, I don’t know what the will ofGod is.” Well, if you don’t you haven’t been reading the Bible, because God has to make His will available to us. He’s the one whomade the rule. If He requires us to follow the rule He has to set upthe conditions so that we can know His will, so that we can askaccording to His will so that we can have confidence when we askHim that He heard us. That means that His will must be available, and thank God it is. The Bible is His will.

15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we havethe petitions that we have asked of Him.

The way you get those petitions is by the prayer of faith.—EIF

postle Fred and Dr Betty Price led a group of visitors toIsrael in Spring from April 25- May 4 of this year. MichaelEvans offers readers a front row seat to the sights andsounds of the Holy Land.

On Tuesday April 27, the second day of the tour, the group the daywas beautiful, warm, 86 degrees, sunny and awesome. We passed by thecities of Afula, Herzlia, Netanya and others enroute to Caesarea.

David Kidron, our favorite Israeli guide of the past 30 years, gavethe history of the area and the Amphitheatre. Then Apostle Price min-istered and laid hands on the sick.

When it was all done, we left the amphitheater and toured thegrounds of Herod’s palace, the Hippodrome, both the upper palace andthe lower palace on the Mediterranean and saw the marble pillar withPontius Pilate’s name chiseled into it.

Next stop, driving past the Crusader walls ofCaesarea’s Byzantine period. We stopped again forphotos at the Herod’s aqueduct which provided waterto Caesarea. All-in-all, Caesarea comprised over 250acres. We left the Mediterranean coast and headedinland and up into Mt. Carmel. We drove through thebeautiful, rural, hilly countryside to Megiddo which issurrounded by the Valley of Armageddon. From here,we drove past the cities of Cana and Nazareth toTiberias, our destination for the next three nights. Ourhotel had great views of the Sea of Galilee.

DDAAYY 33In Galilee, the land of Jesus, the weather report for the day was 91

degrees and sunny. Instead, it was around 80, slightly windy, but verynice. Our first stop was the Mount of Beatitudes. Our drive took us par-tially around the Sea of Galilee.

The next location was called, Peter’s Primacy. The grounds hereare just as beautiful as those of the Church of the Beatitudes. We touredthe grounds and walked to the shore of the Sea of Galilee for photos, playing in the water, gathering souvenirs and just enjoying physically, walking in the footsteps of Jesus and the Apostles.

From here we went to Jesus’ city—Capernaum. If you know any-thing about the Bible, you must know this was the headquarters ofJesus ministry in the Galilee. We spent a lot of time here, touring theruins, the Synagogue, the new church over the ruins of Peter’s mother-in-law’s house, again for our own personal reflection.

Our next stop was Kursi. The site is located east of the Sea ofGalilee on the bank of a river bed descending from the Golan

Heights. It is significant to many Christians andJews because it has been identified by tradition asthe site where Jesus healed two men possessed bydemons (Matthew 8: 28-33). One of the highlightsof any tour to the Holy Land is having a St. Peter’sfish lunch on the Sea of Galilee. Every trip we lookforward to our stop at the Kibbutz that supportsIsrael’s largest dairy as well as a huge fish restauranton the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

Next, we went to board the boat for our rideacross the Sea of Galilee. The winds of earlier inthe day had picked up, significantly. We couldsee white caps all across the Sea of Galilee and

Jesus wasn’t around to stop the wind. But, we boarded anyway. Whata ride. The winds continued to gain strength and the waves got even big-ger. The goal was to get out in the middle of the Sea, stop the enginesand for Apostle Price to teach for about 30 minutes. He taught a differ-ent message than the traditional Jesus walked on the water, Luke 5:1-7.It was almost as well received as getting off the boat was shortly there-after. This time we disembarked at a new location, a pier nearCapernaum.

From here we boarded our busses and headed back to Tabgha, thistime to see the sight of the teaching of the loaves and fishes.

DDaayy 44For our first stop, we had quite a drive from the hotel to the Peace

Overlook. This location has a complete view of the entire Sea of Galilee. The view is breathtaking. The guides tell us of the strategic importanceto the overlook to the state of Israel. The Syrians used to use the heightadvantage to bombard the Jewish settlers below at will. From there wetraversed almost the entire Golan, pastDruze villages, farms, terraced hillsidesand down the northern Golan to the valleyand lunch. After lunch we backtracked alittle, past Tel Dan, one of the sources ofthe Jordan River to Caesarea Philipi, another source of the Jordan River.

DDaayy 55During our last day in Galilee, we

stopped at the Jordan River. Six year oldGabriel Bostic had never been baptizedbefore and his parents decided to have himbaptized in the Jordan River which was performed by Pastor KenFriendly of Anchorage Alaska. We then headed for Gideon’s Spring. This is the place where Gideon gathered his men before fighting theMidianites. Next stop, Beit Shean, located 17 miles south of the Sea ofGalilee. We then drove along the Israel-Jordan border, past militaryoutposts, farms, barbed wire and small settlements, both Israeli andPalestinian. We drove through the West Bank and past Jericho, whichwas blocked off. We then continued to the Dead Sea and the caves atQumran. From there it was up to Jerusalem.

DDaayy 66Our first stop was the Mount of Olives. While on the mount, we

take in the awesome, almost 180 degree view of new and oldJerusalem and take a bunch of photos as well as our group photowith Jerusalem in the background.

From there we walked down the Mount of Olives as Jesus did to

the Garden of Gethsemane. This is better known as the PalmSunday walk. It is a tricky, steep walk downhill that would havebeen better made from the back of a colt of a donkey. Once there,Apostle Price taught a short message on the fact that Jesus had to diespiritually in the Garden of Gethsemane in preparation for Him to diephysically later on.

Then we walked down from the Mount of Olives into the portionof the garden adjacent to the Church of All Nations, officially named theBasilica of the Agony. The Catholic Church enshrines a section ofstone in the Garden of Gethsemane that where Jesus prayed on thenight of his arrest.

From here we travel to Bethlehem. Due to the situation in theMiddle East, it is off limits to our Israeli guides, but not our Palestiniandrivers. The guides disembark at the checkpoint and we continue onour own to our first stop, the Three Arches for some long awaited shop-ping. After we shopped until we dropped (dropped lots of money) wehead to the Canawati’s restaurant for lunch. It’s a first-class operationthat can handle hundreds of tourists at a single sitting and doso in clean, air conditioned comfort. The fare for the day is amyriad of Middle Eastern delights including olives, hum-mus, egg plant, freshly made pita bread, salads and themain course, kabob chicken, lamb and beef with frenchfries no less.

After lunch, it’s off to the Shepherds Field, approximately 2km to the east of Bethlehem near the village of Beit Sahour, whereone of the most sacred places to us Christians; is found. TheShepherds Field is identified as the scene where the Angel of the Lordvisited the shepherds and informed them of Jesus' birth; Then we wentto the Church of the Nativity. Inside the Catholic Church, there is agrotto below and behind the altar where Jesus was born.

DDaayy 77Day seven of the tour took us us to a location that has no biblical sig-

nificance, but was nevertheless spectacular, Masada. We get there bydescending Jerusalem by bus, back to the road we took to Qumran, pastQumran, along the Dead Sea almost to Eilat. Here we find a modern

day oasis in the middle of nowhere that is now a nationalpark.

Subsequently, we leave Masada and continue even fur-ther south towards the Red Sea for lunch. The nice thingabout that location was its closeness to its Dead Sea beach.

Afterwards, we head back to the busses and our nextstop, Ein Gedi. Ein Gedi is a water-resonant oasis on

the Dead Sea and around the earlysummer is

still comfortableto a visit.

DDaayy 88In the early

years when wetoured the HolyLand we alwayshad an opportu-nity to spendsome qualitytime in the OldCity ofJerusalem. Thisyear, our day in

Jerusalem was arest day for everyone—but those who wanted to go to the old city werefree to. Fortunately, our hotel, the King David Citadel is within walkingdistance of the Jaffa Gate to the Old City. A new mall has been builtbetween the hotel and the Jaffa Gate allowing for a nice mix of old andnew.

DDaayy 99Our first stop was just steps away from our hotel, the Jaffa Gate to

the Old City of Jerusalem. Our destination wass the Via Dolorosa toretrace a portion of the stations of the cross of Jesus Christ as He madeHis way through the city to Calvary. It’s explained to us that the city wasmuch more crowded in Jesus’ day, which is hard to imagine. While we

made our way, we observd a number of other groups of pilgrims whowere actually retracing every station of the cross and actually car-rying a huge cross themselves for more realism.

We reach the center of town which separates the four quar-ters of the city. From here, we pass by the church of the HolySepulcher, where Catholics believe Jesus was buried. Wecontinue to the church of St. Anne and the Pool of Bethesdabefore exiting the Old City at the Lion’s Gate and back to ourwaiting busses.

Next stop was the Pool of Siloam. We arrived in whatappears to be Arab East Jerusalem, a densely populated, urbanarea where the ruins of the pool are located.

After lunch we proceeded to the Garden Tomb. We saw thesite of the skull, Golgotha, which is believed to be the place whereJesus was crucified. We then pass through the garden to the emptytomb. Naturally, this area is crowded with tourists, but we’ve got towait our turn and experience actually going in the tomb. It’ a movingexperience for many.

We relocated to a secluded spot in the garden for our Communionservice. Apostle Price shared his communion message and we tookCommunion. It was a very special occasion for little Gabriel Bostic.Earlier in the tour, he was captized in the Jordan River. Then he receivedhis first Communion in the Garden Tomb. It doesn’t get any better thanthat. What a fitting end to a marvelous tour.

This was the 11th Holy Land tour for Ever Increasing FaithMinistries and as far as I’m concerned, the best. Visiting the Holy Landdoesn’t get old, it is new every morning. —EIF

sn’t it a good idea, some may ask, to give kidscondoms just in case? After all, with two-thirds of all who contract HIV/AIDS doing

so before they’re twenty-five, isn’t it better to pro-tect children by giving them an alternative to absti-nence?

My answer is a resounding no! Clear guide-lines are much more effective than the best-intend-ed mixed message.

Prom was around the corner. After a rockyfreshman year that resulted in a change of highschools, La Nej was now focused and doing wellin her classes. With plans to attend a Christian col-lege solidly in line, we relaxed and enjoyed theexcitement of La Nej’s high school graduation.

Well, Irving didn’t really relax. He scrutinizedevery young man who asked La Nej to the prom.He met each one—seven requests in all—and saidno to every one!

“But why, Daddy?” The dinner table conver-sations seemed to go on forever. Irving wouldexplain that there was something he didn’t trustabout one boy, or that he didn’t like the attitude ofthe other, and on and on it went. Throughoutthese discussions I was silent. I didn’t perceivewhat my husband did, but I trusted him, and sodid his daughter.

The prom was now three weeks away, and LaNej still had no date. “If push comes to a shove, I’lltake you myself,” he said. And that was that.

What amazed me most throughout this entireprocess was my child’s attitude. I kept expectingher to become belligerent, insistent, or rebellious, but she didn’t. With every boy her father rejected, she asked why but never argued the point once hegave his explanation. She showed no anger or ani-mosity, and there was no tension in our home.

Meanwhile, at the university where I taught, graduation was approaching. One of the youngwomen I mentored, Jerilyn, was graduating, andher family was flying from Tennessee to LosAngeles for the ceremony. During the week ofgraduation everyone came to our home for din-ner—Jerilyn, her parents, sister, and brother. Whata side-splitting evening we had, trading stories andtelling family jokes!

When they left, Irving said to me, “I’d trustJeremy with my daughter.” Jeremy had just com-pleted his freshman year in college and had comehome in time to join his family on the trip to LosAngeles. His character testified of his relationshipwith Jesus Christ and spoke volumes of hisupbringing in a fine Christian home. Irving calledJeremy’s dad the next day and asked if Jeremycould remain in Los Angeles to escort La Nej tothe prom, which now was just days away. Theanswer was yes.

Irving took Jeremy to rent a tuxedo and a carwhile La Nej and I shopped for a dress. “You canpick out any dress you like,” I told her. “I don’t care

how expensive it is.” Because her attitude through-out the entire search for a prom date had been sogracious, we wanted her to have the best of every-thing. And I relied on her wisdom not to break thebank!

It didn’t take long for us to find an adorable,above-the-knee, sleeveless red dress. We werecaught in a whirlwind of visiting the hair and nailsalon, shopping for shoes and makeup, and hunt-ing for the perfect earrings.

After a picture-taking send-off, the houseseemed empty and so very, very quiet. I assumedthat Irving would wait up for his daughter to comehome, and I was prepared to sit up with him.

But Irving went to bed. Confident that LaNej was in good hands, he slept peacefully. And sodid I.

The next day La Nej and Jeremy told us howmuch fun they had at the prom, and they joinedsome schoolmates that day for a trip toDisneyland. There they learned that prom nightwasn’t as much fun for everyone—the pressure of

the sexual rites of passage left its disappointingtears on many a cheek.

Today La Nej and Jeremy remain friends.Jeremy is now married and recently celebrated thebirth of his daughter. Prom night was special forhim, too. He didn’t go to his own high schoolprom because of his parents’ strong Christian con-viction and desire to protect their son from thepressures of his peers. So for Jeremy, La Nej’sprom night was a dream come true. Isn’t it amaz-ing how God honors his children when they areobedient?

We must protect our children by setting clearstandards in our home. And, we must pray withour children, and talk with them. When parentsdon’t communicate they are still sending mes-sages—silent as they may be.

With sexual activity, studies show that par-ents’ attitudes impact their sons’ decisions aboutwhether or not to become sexually active. Forgirls, studies show that early sexual activity is relat-ed to a breakdown in parental communication.

Children raised in a godly environment real-ize that as they are obedient to God’s Word, it willsustain them, guide them, and give them wisdomto make right decisions. This doesn’t mean theywill be perfect and not make mistakes, but it doesmean that they will be aware of laws that exist out-side themselves and for their own good.

Herein lies the difference between the campthat would offer contraceptives to kids and teachkids that they have a choice of alternative lifestylesversus teaching them that there are absolutesabout which they are to make the right decisions. This difference is philosophically at the core of ourargument, and it is evident in the language we use.The difference is God.

WWHHEENN CCHHIILLDDRREENN CCHHOOOOSSEEWhen children choose, they are selecting from

the many options presented to them. It’s as if we’retelling them that any choice they make is fine andthat all choices are equal. But children are notequipped to make such choices. Neither are theyequipped to decide whether or not they will be sex-ually pure.

Why? They do not have all of the facts tomake a sound judgment. Therefore, it is ourresponsibility as adults who do have all of the factsnot to present our children with a host of optionsor choices, but to present them with an absolute towhich we expect them to adhere. When they aremature enough to make decisions, we expect themto make the right decision.

In schools today, our children are given choic-es that wreak havoc on themselves, their families, their communities, and their country. Condomavailability is a choice that should not be presentedto our kids.

Our children trust us to guard their well-being, to guide their lives, to teach them rightfrom wrong. We say, “This is the correct way tospell.” “That is the right way to multiply.” “Oneplus one does not equal three. That is wrong.”

Once we present children with options, is itunrealistic for them to assume that since we knowwhat is best for them, we are offering them achoice that is equally beneficial? By offering the

choice, do we not also imply that it is a positivedecision for their well-being?

This is why kids today are confused, and weare the ones confusing them. We don’t need tooffer choices as if anything is acceptable. It’s not!We need to present absolutes, right and wrong, and then equip children with the tools they needto make the right decisions.

Parents who give their children condoms just

in case really don’t expect their children to remainsexually pure, do they? Approval for sexual inter-course is vicariously implied through the very actof putting condoms in our children’s pockets.

Worst of all, children are given a false sense ofsecurity that they are protected against the poten-tially lethal HIV virus. Condoms may be saferthan nothing, but they are not safe.

Although the school-based clinic’s goal is toreduce sexual activity, its presence on schoolgrounds may establish sexual activity as the norm. The clinic may send social cues—messagesimplied in the environment—that it is acceptablefor students to have sexual intercourse.

Other studies concur. Access to family plan-ning services may suggest to teens a greater com-munity tolerance for sexual activity. Handing outcondoms in classrooms may imply that the princi-pal, administrators, and teachers approve of andaccept sexual intercourse among teens. This mes-sage is reinforced again and again with the avail-ability of more and more condoms every day thatteens attend schools that have clinics or condomavailability.

Clinics on school grounds do not encouragesexually active students to use contraceptives. Sowhy are these clinics still in our schools? And whyare there still plans to put school-based clinics orschool-based health centers into every school?

There’s only one reason: to teach comprehen-sive sex education which some researchers sayencourages early sexual activity. Once girls

become pregnant, clinic nurses remove studentsto a nearby Planned Parenthood facility and aborttheir babies during morning school hours—allwithout parental consent or notification.

WWHHAATT PPAARREENNTTSS CCAANN DDOOIf you have children in public school, you

must become involved. At home, whether yourchild attends public or private school, seize everyteachable moment to talk to your child about sex-ual purity. Annually, make sure your sons anddaughters participate in the church’s abstinenceprograms. Here’s why…

According to the recent National Survey ofFamily Growth (a survey by the Centers forDisease Control taken every six or seven years)42% of girls 15 to 19 reported having sex at leastonce; for boys, it was 43 percent. The good newsis that a majority—a whopping 58% of girls and57% of boys—are not having sex. Why are theyabstaining? The most common reason teens citedwas that sex was against their “religion or morals.”This calls for a standing ovation for parents andyouth leaders!

Continue to be involved in your child’sschool. Let the principal know that under no cir-cumstances do you want to have a clinic in theschool. Put your foot down and involve other par-ents.

If you’re a trained speaker, teach or “guest lec-ture” on abstinence. I’ve given talks in schools, andteachers welcome this type of parental involve-ment. La Nej, who is all grown up now with amasters in philosophy of religion and ethics andmarried with two sons, has taken over this role. She’s one of the best abstinence educators I’ve everheard.

Most of all, parents must pray for their child’sschool. Especially pray for Christian teachers whoteach in public schools because they are the realmissionaries in America. And why not take prayerone step further? Ask your church to support alocal school. Walk around that school and pray forthe teachers and students.

If we don’t pray, who will?—EIFPortions of this article are excerpts from Chapter 9, “Condoms—Just In Case?”in Dr. Tolbert’s book, Keeping You & Your Kids Sexually Pure: A How-To Guide forParents, Pastors, Youth Workers and Teachers.

Is there an environment in high schools thatencourages sexual activity? Does the presence ofthe school-based clinic on school grounds and con-doms in the classroom convey a message to stu-dents that sexual activity is expected and accepted?

These questions were the basis for my doctor-al research. To find answers, I surveyed 450African-American inner-city high school students inCalifornia. Students attended two schools thatwere only four miles apart. One school had a school-based clinic, and the other school did not. Here is asummary of the major findings.

1. Female sexual activity rates are higher in the clinicschool. More females in the clinic school became sexually activethan did females in the nonclinic school, 60 percent versus 37percent respectively.

2. Males perceive that schools accept and expect sexualintercourse. Males in both schools agreed that, “If schools giveout condoms, it must be okay to have sex,” and “If my schoolgives out condoms, it’s because they expect students to havesexual intercourse.”

3. The school-based clinic creates a sexually permissiveschool environment. There was a significant difference in per-

ceptions between males in the clinic school and males in thenonclinic school. Males in the clinic school especially perceivedthat they were expected to have sexual intercourse more sothan did males in the nonclinic school.

4. Students who attend church are more likely to dis-agree with the “safer sex” message. Students who attendedchurch one or more times a week disagreed that “Teenagers aresafe from contracting the HIV/AIDS virus if they use condoms.”Teenagers who attend church are more likely to affirm, “I wouldnot have sexual intercourse even if I had a condom.”

God’s Healing PowerRoughly ten years ago, a chiropractor

took a full x-ray of my body and noticed thatone of my legs was a couple of inches shorterthan the other. Discovering the leg differ-ence answered a lot of questions as to why Iwould sometimes trip when I walked or mis-calculate steps as I walked up stairs. However, because it was not that big of adeal to me, I never really cared to do any-thing about it.

In January of this year, I enrolled in theApostle Fred Price Ministry TrainingCenter (AFPMTC). I wanted a betterunderstanding of God’s Word and how toapply it in a more effective way. One of theinstructors in the Ministry school is PastorLarry Matteson. I had heard little about himbefore I joined the school—enough tointrigue me.

One night after class, I approachedPastor Matteson and spoke to him about myleg difference. He asked me if I wanted himto pray for me. I said yes, but because therewere a number of people standing around I

asked him to do it at another time. Heagreed and we did not speak of it again for acouple of months.

This past May during class, PastorMatteson was teaching on the Gifts of theHoly Spirit. Right in the middle of class, hestopped teaching, called me to the front ofthe class and asked me to place a chair on theplatform. Without question, I immediatelygrabbed a chair and did as he asked. He thenasked me to sit in the chair. After I took aseat, he told the class about my legs. At thatmoment, I thought, “Oh my God! Is hegoing to do what I think he’s going to do?”Then I thought to myself, “This is going tobe cool!”

Pastor Matteson lifted my legs to see thedifference in length. He immediately saw it.He then told the class he was going to speakto particular parts of my body and tell themto line up to the proper length. Little did Iknow that, as he was speaking to the class,my legs were already coming into alignment.

While he was speaking, there was aslight tingling in my legs. But, I did not paymuch attention to it at the time. I was toobusy listening to the pastor’s words so that Icould make sure my faith was lining up withwhat he was going to be praying about. However, when he eventually lifted my legsagain, my feet were already perfectly lined upwith each other. Even Pastor Matteson wasamazed. He asked me “Did you move?” Isaid, “No, not a bit.” At that moment, wecould do nothing else but give praise to Godfor His works. —Brian Carr (Los Angeles, CA)

haron Washington admits that she went on her first dietwhen she was 12 years old. Since then, she’s been on justabout every diet—Nutrisystem, Atkins, Weight Watchers—and every time, she’d wind up right back where she started.

After she’d had her son 20 years ago, the weight steadily kept coming. Then a fellow church member told her about the gastric bypass sur-gery she’d had and suggested the surgery clinic she’d used.

“I told her I’d looked into gastric bypass surgery,” saysWashington, “but I wasn’t really happy with what I’d found. The peo-ple in the center I’d found were all depressing and sad. I didn’t wantto be like that. So I called the group she told me about and it was atotally different environment. I made the decision to have the gastricbypass. Basically, I believe that was my way of escape. When theywould lay hands on the sick, I remember hearing Dr. Price and Dr.Betty say, “don’t judge the people up here who are having surgerybecause God will meet them at their level of faith.” I believe God metme at my level of faith through the gastric bypass surgery.”

On the day that she checked infor surgery six years ago,Washington weighed in at 338pounds.

“I truly stepped out on faith[having the surgery],” declaresWashington. “You have to use justas much faith having the surgery asyou did trying to do it on yourown—even more so because you aregoing under the knife. You have tototally change your eating because ifyou don’t you’ll have a lot of pain. I was determined to follow the pro-tocol and do exactly what I was told. When I was in the hospital, thisguy came into my room and he’d had the surgery six months prior, but did not follow post-surgery instructions. He told me, “Do exact-ly what they tell you to do or else you’ll end up in the hospital like me.”

Washington says not only did she adopt a strict exercise regimenbut she also involved God in her weight loss journey. She also madesure to totally transform her diet. She began working out everyday—even though right after the surgery she could barely walk because oflack of energy from the excess weight. Soon, she was picking up thepace and after a year, she started jogging. She upped her work out totwice a day. She then began working out with a member of her fami-ly at a local gym. Her husband eventually came up with the idea tobuild a gym inside of their garage complete with a treadmill, ellipticalmachine and weights. Her work out includes lifting weight fourtimes a week and doing cardio twice a day, four days a week.

She admits that some people think she’s crazy for working out somuch. But, she says, working out is crucial for her to maintain herweight and not pack the pounds back on.

“Each day that I would exercise, I had this confession I wouldmake which is: “I thank You Father for this time to sow seed towardssubmitting my body to you as a living sacrifice and that the harvest ismighty for my metabolism burning at a higher rate, towards mebeing strong lean and tone.” I would tell Satan he had no control orauthority over anything that was involved in or related to what Ineeded to do to train my body. When I would get done with my exer-cise, I would give God praise for it.”

Six years ago, she weighed 338 pounds. Since then she hasdropped 190 pounds. Her clothes size went down from a 3X to a size4. It’s not just exercise that helped but a diet change as well.

“I had to totally change my diet,” she points out. “All the changesthat were made for the surgery were changes that needed to be madeanyway like eating smaller portions of food, chewing my food verywell and not drinking soda.”

She says she’s not even tempted to drink soda, but admits that shedoes miss In-N-Out Burger and spicy foods. She also still followspost-surgery advice to wait an hour after eating before drinking so shewon’t flush the food out of her system. She also doesn’t drink 30 min-utes before eating so that she won’t be too full. Her dishes nowinclude ground turkey instead of ground beef and more soups and sal-ads.

Having gastric bypass surgery was thebest choice for Washington who says that shewas more afraid of not having the surgeryand continuing to gain weight.

“The surgery was not a quick fix,” shenotes. “But because I had the surgery, itallowed me to become active and that is whathas kept me. My lifestyle is totally different. Ido need to say this. There have been timeswhen I’ve eaten stuff that I shouldn’t haveeaten. You do pay for it. There’s what’s calledthe dumping syndrome. It can be verypainful. Of course at parties, I do tend to eat differently. That’s onlynormal. There are occasions where I did go up five pounds and thenI had to get myself back on track. I don’t want people to think it’s allsmooth sailing.

“I just don’t want to go back to that place of darkness,” says

Washington of her life before the weight loss. “I’m 50 years old and Ican cross my legs. I can go shopping in any store. It’s wonderful andI’m very happy.”—EIF

y 4 year old son, likemost little boys, has anaffinity for superheroes—especially Iron Man. As mostparents know, this generally leads to the subsequent pur-

chase of the action figure and all of its accessories. Because my son hasbeen completely intrigued and enamored with the ever-popular IronMan, I found myself making the trek to the local toy store for the fig-urine. Upon getting the action figure home and testing it out, I heardthe toy say several pre-recorded declarations. What happened nextchanged my perspective as a worshipping man. We will get back to thatin a moment.

It is often said that men are not vocal creatures. However, accord-ing to 2 Corinthians 5:17, a man who is born of the Spirit of God is anew creature. Any person born of God has an innate desire and cravingto communicate with their Creator—God the Father. This is known asprayer/worship. Our words in worship and in prayer bear witness toour relationship with our Father. Isaiah 12:4-6 affirms this principle:

And in that day you will say: “ Praise the LORD, call upon His name;

Declare His deeds among the peoples, Make mention that His name is exalted. 5 Sing to the LORD, For He has done excellent things;

This is known in all the earth. 6 Cry out and shout, O inhabitant of Zion, For great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!”

- Isaiah 12:4-6

Notice that within these three scriptures, there are seven directives that are vocal or audible innature. This leads us to believe that our worship tothe Father is not only spiritual, but verbal, as well.

Now back to the action figure. As I pressedthe button on the Iron Man figure’s chest, it beganto make a series of declarations; declarations thataffirmed something I already knew as it pertainedto worship: Speaking God’s Word with authoritycreates faith and power! It’s amazing how God canuse a toy to build us up and remind us of His Word! The series of affirmations emitting from the toy wentas follows:

“I Am Iron Man!” – To me this spoke volumes!Knowing (and confessing) who you are in Christ is thefirst step toward entryway into God’s Gates, HisCourts and His Throne Room.

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonder-fully made; Marvelous are Your works, And thatmy soul knows very well.

Psalm 139:14When was the last time you declared “I

Am…”? As the very elect of God, we have the right

to proclaim who we are in Christ. I am…healed! I am…wise! I am… an

Overcomer! Boldly confessing who we are gives us the right to come tothe throne of grace, obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of everyneed. (Hebrews 4:16)

The next declaration the action figure loudly proclaimed was:

“Target Engaged!” – God is truly the target of our worship. Heis the focus of our praise and the center of our joy. Psalm 5:7 states, “Butas for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple. As men, whenwe begin to engage in intimate, heartfelt worship to God, we becomeempowered and strengthened in our inner man. And not only are wedrawn closer to Him, the byproduct of greater discernment and sensi-tivity develops as our worship relationship with Him grows. This helpsus more accurately pinpoint the “targets” in our daily lives and betterknow how to unleash the last declaration made by the action figure. Ipushed the button again and heard the super hero say…

“Auxiliary Power!” - The word auxiliary is defined as givingsupport; serving as an aid; helpful (Dictionary.com). When we engagein communion and worship with our Father, we deploy an arsenal ofpower that is readily available to us! As Christian men, we can walk in

authority and victory in every area as leaders in our homes, our busi-nesses, on our jobs, in our churches and within our communities. As

we worship, we garner the Holy Spirit’s help, aid and assistance tonavigate through life. We are endowed with favor, wisdom,

strength, boldness and understanding for every goodwork. And according to Deuteronomy 8:18, it is Godwho gives us power to be successful! (New Living trans-lation)

So if you’re looking to be an “Iron Man” for God,remember that real men worship. And if we are going tosubdue kingdoms, we have to confess who we are (“IAm”), acknowledge whose we are (God is our worshiptarget) and walk in what we have (Power).

“ Therefore prepare yourself and arise, And speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed before their faces, Lest I dismay you before them.

For behold, I have made you this day A fortified city and an iron pillar, And bronze walls against the whole land— Against the kings of Judah, Against its princes, Against its priests, And against the people of the land. They will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you.

For I am with you,” says the LORD, “to deliver you.”- Jeremiah 1:17-19 —EIF

trife is a dangerous sin that is an open door to the devil. It giveshim license to bring confusion and evil into our lives. If you wantpeace in your life, give peace to others. Walk in love, be quick to

forgive and overlook offense. The English word for “strife” is usuallydefined as a lack of agreement or a state of conflict, originated from anOld Icelandic word strith, which means war.

The devil likes to bring you an opportunity to get into it withsomeone because he knows that the moment you step into strife he cangain mastery over you. He uses strife to interrupt the flow of love in your

life. And once he’s gotten you out oflove, then he can cancel out your faithbecause faith works by love. (Galatians5:6)

There is much strife and contention between Christians andChurches. The Word serves as a guide on the road of life. For theBeliever, it provides insight on how to achieve success and walk free fromstrife.

In Genesis 13:7 it says, “And there was strife [i.e. the Hebrew wordpronounced reeb] between the herdsmen of Abram’s cattle and the herds-men of Lot’s cattle.”

When we look at this word strife in the New Testament (Romans13:13), Paul wrote, “Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry anddrunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy.” This Greekword for strife is “eris” meaning to quarrel, argue, contentions.

The devil knows that envy and strife destroy relationships andlong-term friendships. He is aware that if he can create envy and strifebetween you and the ones you love, he can ruin those special relationshipsthat God intended to be a blessing in your life.

The devil doesn’t just target relationships or friendships with thistype of assault. He also knows how to get inbetween you and your church family, aministry you love and support, or eventhe organization where you work. Theenemy doesn’t care whom hedivides—he simply wants to divide.

The Word tells us in 2Corinthians 2:11 that our heavenlyfather does not want us to be igno-rant of satan devices. Envy andstrife are some of the tools he uses. Itis very important that we recognizeenvy and strife and stand againstthem.

The word strife from theGreek also carries the meaning associ-ated with a “political party.” It is oftentranslated as a party spirit because of itslinkage to political systems and politicalparties. In James 3:16 the Word says,“For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.”In order for us to fully understand whyJames used these words, we need tothink about the way political partiesare formed and how they function.

After a political party isformed, the people begin to push their

agenda and ideas, fighting fiercely to see that their party’s platform isaccepted and eventually put in the position of ruling and calling the shots.

In the same way, some Christians become so clouded by theirambition to see their own views adopted that they have no tolerance foranyone who sees things differently than they do. Once these so-called like-minded Christians find each other, they naturally begin to take sides, forming a kind of allegiance. Then they begin to form agendas and devel-op plans to see their views pushed, promoted and accepted.

In many cases, strife begins when—out of self pride—an insecure

person enters a discussion and asksloaded, inflammatory questions or startdisputes over picky issues just to stir up

strife and drag the group down to his/her level. Another form of strife is a jealous rivalry which manifests itself in

boasting and spinning the facts to make you seem better than someoneelse. They are really called haters!

HOW TO AVOID STRIFE1. Love is an antidote to strife Proverbs 10:12- Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.

2. Humbly taking advice can help us avoid strifeProverbs 13:10- By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom.

3. Be slow to angerProverbs 15:18-A wrathful man stirs up strife, But he who is slow to anger allays contention.

When the opportunity for strife arises, you can beat satan at hisown game by choosing to use wisdom. You may

not agree with the person you can at least demon-strate that you value their right to have a differ-

ent opinion than you do and by maintaining anattitude of love. (Proverbs 22:10.)

It takes two opposing hands to makea clapping noise; it takes two opposing

sides for strife. With the Word of God, allstrife can be avoided, simply by not wast-ing your precious time responding tosomeone who chooses to behave in abelligerent manner towards you. Prayfor their repentance and healing, butuntil that has happened don’t be bait-ed into a strife ambush.

We need to shut strife out thedoor of strife from our lives. Strifekeeps God’s blessings, anointingand joy out. If we ignore the effectsof strife, it will begin to poison ourattitude and ultimately our relation-ships. First, we must recognize itand pray. Learn to control our man-ner of speech and talk calmlythrough disagreements. If there isone thing the enemy wants to take

from you it is your joy. Don’t lethim!—EIF

hen I begin my prayers everyday I pray in thespirit for all men everywhere who have notheard the gospel. I pray that the Lord will send

forth laborers to share the Word with them. Next, Ibind Satan’s power over the mind of any unsaved personwho has the opportunity to hear the Word that day.First Timothy 2:1,2 are the Scriptures that I follow inthis area. They say:

1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, payers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made forall men,

2 for kings and all who are in authority, that wemay lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness andreverence.

Everyday I pray for all the leaders in authority. I pray for pres-ident, vice president, the governor, the mayor, the senators, thecongressmen, the council people, the state representatives, chiefsof police, all police officers, leaders of the school boards, all schoolprincipals, teachers, leaders of the churches. Next, I pray for theleaders in the Body of Christ, including every apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher, Sunday school teacher, and mission-ary. Then I do some specifics; I call out the names of a great manyleaders in ministry, many of whom you would recognize immedi-ately – like the FICWFM ministers and some other well-knownleaders of national and international ministries – and many othersyou might not recognize.

I pray that the ministers walk in divine health, divine prosper-ity, that they have all their needs met according to His riches inglory by Christ Jesus. I pray for all the ministers that speak nega-

My Prayers and

Intercession

15 Therefore I also, after I heard of yourfaith in the Lord Jesus and your love for allthe saints,

16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:

17 that the God of our Lord JesusChrist, the Father of glory, may give to youthe spirit of wisdom and revelation in theknowledge of Him,

18 the eyes of your understandingbeing enlightened; that you may know whatis the hope of His calling, what are the richesof the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

19 and what is the exceeding great-ness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power

20 which He worked in Christ when Heraised Him from the dead and seated Him atHis right hand in the heavenly places,

21 far above all principality and powerand might and dominion and every namethat is named, not only in this age but also inthat which is to come.

Then I go on into Ephesians 3:14-19,which read:

14 For this reason I bow my knees tothe Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15 From whom the whole family inheaven and earth is named,

16 that He would grant you, accordingto the riches of His glory, to be strengthenedwith might through His Spirit in the innerman,

17 that Christ may dwell in yourhearts through faith; that you, being rootedand grounded in love,

18 may be able to comprehend withall the saints what is the width and length anddepth and height –

19 to know the love of Christ whichpasses knowledge; that you may be filledwith all the fullness of God.

I pray for all Crenshaw Christian Center assistant pastorsand ministry assistants by name, and for my husband Fred.Next, I do the Ephesians prayers over these ministers and min-istries. Let’s look at these prayers and you can put them intoyour own words. Here are Ephesians 1:15-21:

Page 23: Ever Increasing Faith Ministries Magazine - Spring 2010

tively against our ministry or any other ministry, and say, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. And send forthlaborers to share with them where they have need.”

Then I pray for my immediate relatives – my brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, for example – and thank the Father that Ibelieve they’re all saved, healed, filled with the Holy Spirit, and livegodly lives according to His Word. I did this for years before I sawsome of my family come into the knowledge of the Word. Then Isaw every one of my brothers come in, some actually walking in theWord very strongly. There are also some special relatives that areinto trouble, and I simply remind Satan that his power is boundover their minds.

The next thing I pray for are the members of CrenshawChristian Center and Ever Increasing Faith Ministries. I may dothe Ephesians prayers over them, praying that they’ll have the spir-it of wisdom and revelation. I pray that all the members ofCrenshaw are of one mind and one spirit, serving the Lord. I alsopray that we may be in agreement and bring about the work thatGod has called us to do, and that Jesus will be exalted in our lives.I pray that every member will walk in divine health and divineprosperity, and have all their needs met according to His riches inglory by Christ Jesus. Then I confess my agreement with thosewho believe they receive their healing.

Next, I pray for Fred – and you can get into agreement withthis – that every decision he makes will bethe right decision, and that the Lord pro-tects him from any voice or spirit that’s notof Him. I pray that He surrounds Fredwith people who are from Him to helpFred fulfill the ministry that he’s beencalled to. I pray that the Lord continues toexpose, reveal or remove anybody or any-thing that is not right, and that Fredwould have an understanding heart to dis-cern the good and the bad.

Then I pray for all the people that are in the help ministry, thatthey will be on one accord, of one mind and one spirit, serving theLord.

Finally, I pray for my immediate family – my husband and mychildren. I thank the Lord every day that I have a godly husbandand godly children and that my children are walking in line withthe Word. I thank the Lord that we’re blessed because we fearHim, because the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Ipray for their protection.

It’s important that we pray in the spirit. Everyone should havea definite time to pray daily. That’s the way you get built up in thespirit. So many times Christians don’t want to take the time topray, but you need to discipline yourself to pray in the same wayyou discipline yourself to exercise physically. Though you mightnot feel anything from it at the time, but you know you need to doit to get the results.

First Corinthians 14: 4 says:He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself…This word edifies means you’re building up or charging up

your spirit man.First John 5:14-15 says:

When you come to God you have to expect that He willanswer your prayer. You have to believe you receive it before youget it. Keep that in mind. When you’re praying and interceding forothers you have to believe that God is hearing your prayer. Lookat Romans 8:26: .

Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not knowwhat we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes inter-cession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

This verse is not telling us that we don’t know how to pray. It’stelling us that we don’t always know what to pray for. And this isthe Scripture that you would use in intercession when you don’tknow what to pray for. If you’ll give yourself to praying in theSpirit, the Holy Spirit, who knows what the needs are, will praythrough you. Sometimes that’s where groanings and the travailingcome in. Some people are trying to teach others to groan and tra-vail, but these are not to be taught! That’s what the Holy Spiritdoes through us. If you’re taught to travail and groan, it becomesnothing but flesh and you won’t accomplish anything by it. Let’scontinue in Romans.

27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of theSpirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to thewill of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to thosewho love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

When you’re interceding, all things are working together foryour good because you love God. Again, you have to use faith, because sometimes it seems things are not working for your good, but in the end they will.

See, when you pray in the Spirit you’re building up your spiritman, and it can help you to ward off any temptations that might

come your way. That’s why it’s so impor-tant to do it. And even though you don’tfeel like doing it, and you may not feelanything when you’re doing it, you’rebuilding yourself up. You have thepower, but you have to be the one to ini-tiate that power through prayer and thisis what will change the circumstancesaround you.—EIF

This article was excerpted from Dr. Betty’steaching, Intercessory Prayer.

14 Now this is the confidence that wehave in Him, that if we ask anything accord-ing to His will, He hears us.

15 And if we know that He hears us,whatever we ask, we know that we have thepetitions that we have asked of Him.

You need todiscipline your-self to pray inthe same wayyou disciplineyourself to exer-cise physically.

If you’retaught to travailand groan, itbecomes noth-ing but fleshand you won’taccomplish any-thing by it.

When Jesus left to go to heaven,He gave us the power of attorney toconduct kingdom business in Hisname. We don’t do this on our ownauthority. Do you remember when,in Acts 19:13–16, the seven sons ofSceva, who tried to go around exor-cising demons, came to one demon-possessed fellow who said, “Jesus Iknow, and Paul I know, but who areyou?” He leaped on them and gavethem what we here in America call a“whuppin’.” Those men had noauthority to use the name of Jesus, and the demons knew it. Anotherway of putting that is, “I know the

name of Jesus, and I know Paul, because he has authority to use thatname, and he has used it on usbefore, but you don’t have any rightto use that name.”

Using the name of Jesus is notonly a great privilege, but it is also amagnificent responsibility. If youwant to accomplish anything—if youwant to get results—you must usethe name of Jesus when it comes tospiritual matters. When you do,Satan and all the demons say, “JesusI know!” and back off. The Lordmay not physically be here, but Hisauthority is here.

I understand how to pray, but how exactly can you be sure that there is power in your prayer?
