What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

• We used influence from independent film companies when making our production company logos because we knew that they would be more appropriate compared to if we based our logo on a big, mainstream company, such as Universal Pictures.

• These are examples of existing film distribution companies however, these are huge multi-national companies and wouldn’t be interested in distributing a niche, low budget film like ours. However, if our production became very successful and made a high profit mainstream companies like universal and 20th century fox may be interested in distributing a production of ours as they would make money from it.

• These companies have distributed very mainstream films such as The Bridget Jones Diary and The Proposal.

• An independent company would be more likely to distribute our production because these type of companies are interested in niche films that will attract a non-mainstream audience. Companies like Weinstein Co. may be interested in our production as this is a niche company, if this company was to distribute our film in the US, it may receive a high viewing as the company is owned by a very well known actor-Ben Stiller. Independent film companies are very interested in keeping the heart of film alive and taking away the ‘Hollywood’ side of the film industry. Companies like the UK Film Council, a lottery funded company, may be interested in our production as the company likes to keep British Film in the picture. The film ‘Submarine’ was also a niche film like ours and was distributed by many companies such as Warp Films and the Film agency for Wales. This agency could possibly distribute our production as they like to put small places/businesses into the film industry.

• A production that can be compared to ours is ‘The Hunt For Gollum’, as it had a small budget of £3000 and was streamed online on their fan based website and YouTube, for free! Those who worked on this film are using it as a way to create a fan base for future films, which they ask for donations to help fund.

• YouTube and websites like that are also a way that we could distribute our production due to the low budget of our film opening and could be a way for us to create interest in future films that we make.
