EUROPE REPORT FOR IFEA. May 2013 Dr. Miguel Miñana (SPAIN) In an effort to continue providing the most up-to-date information of all the member societies of IFEA we should have an update of the information of all the member countries (new boards and email address), and request it to the country representatives at the annual general assembly. Spain:

On January 26th 2013 The Spanish Association of Endodontics (AEDE) held his annual symposium with an 8-hour lecture by Dr. Fabricio Teixeira.

In Madrid on October 31st-2nd November will have place a joint meeting: the 34th National congress of the Spanish Association of Endodontics (AEDE) and the 13th congress of the Ibero-Latin-American association of Endodontics (CLAIDE).

Turkey:

The Turkish Endodontic Society are getting ready to apply for 2019 IFEA Meeting. They have organized a local meeting in Istanbul in 2012 with a participant of 300 people.

In 2013 they have organized lectures every month starting from September 2012 until April 2013.

They have organized a symposium on a cruise to Greek Islands from June 2013 1-4. It will start and end at Kusadasi / Turkey . More information can be found at www.turkendodontidernegi.org.

Russia:

The Russian Endodontic Society just celebrated the 3rd Russian Endodontic Congress in Moscow from April 5-7th. All information you can have at this website:

A scientific program of the Congress included lectures, workshops, hands – on courses and Online broadcast to different areas of Russia. We organized a trade exhibition demonstrating the latest advancements in Endodontics. The doctors who participated were as follows: Martine Trope (USA), Filippo Santarcangelo (Italy), Mikhail Solomonov (Israel), Nicola Grande (Italy), Gianluca Plotino (Italy), Irina Makeeva (Russia), Antonio Signore (Italy), Martine Guigand (France), Kristina Badalyan (Russia), Julian Webber(UK), Ivan Vjuchnov (Russia) and others.

Swiss Society for Endodontology. Annual report 2012-2013. In January our traditional annual meeting was held in Basel. More than 300 dentists attended the meeting. The theme of the congress was : Next Generation. That means a focus on new technologies. The speakers were : Paul Wessellink, Maarten Meire, Saeed Asgary, Luis Chavez de Paz, Clemens Walter, Beat Suter, David Sonntag, Isabelle Portenier, Lise-Lotte Kirkevand, Roland Weiger, Gabriel Krastl, Konrad Meyenberg, Michael Hülsmann. The topics pesented were, 3D XRay, Laser in endodontics, vital pulp capping, new rotating instruments, Prions, new instruments technology, Epidemiology of apical periodontitis, Clinical cases, tooth reconstruction, root canal disinfection. The dental industry is also presents at our meeting and several table clinic were offered to the participants, in order to practice the new imstruments or technology. This practical way to train endo is well appreciate by the dentists. Our annual meeting is always completed with a get together party on friday night, which is a friendly moment were dentists can socialize. During the summer we have, what we call, the summerschool of endodontology. It is a meeting between the specialists in endodontics and the universities. All four swiss universities departments of endodontology present a topics on their reseachs or on the way endodontology is taught. Usually a good and constructive discussion follow the presentation which is alway very enriching. During this meeting practical endodontics meets the academy and get closer. The Lebanese Endodontic Society had a busy schedule since the election at different levels: On the Media and social networks we redesigned the web site (www.lse-org.lb) and a new Facebook page (www.facebook.com/lseleb ) was created to enhance communications between the LSE and its members as well as the general public . On the scientific level several activities have been organized or sponsored by LSE:

1. The first scientific meeting was organized at the American University of Beirut in collaboration with the Orthodontic division on 1st of Nov 2012. Pr S.P.Niemczyk (Pennsylvania, USA) was the main speaker and lectured about root resorptions and CBCT applications in Endodontics.!

!2. In Dec 2012, LSE hosted Prs H Kaloustian and A Naaman ( Saint Joseph University,

Beirut) during a scientific evening held at the Lebanese University .The lecturers discussed endodontic diagnosis and case selection.

3. In April 25th Dentsply organized, under the patronage of LSE, a scientific day in Hilton

Habtoor, Beirut .Pr Manocci lectured about success and failure, new approaches in dental materials and retreatment.

! ! !More than 250 general practitioners and endodontists attended the lecture and the workshop that followed was successfully achieved. Up Coming Events: LSE is supporting two main events nationwide:

• The 7th International Congress of Lebanese Dental Association -North Lebanon that is

taking place at Las Salinas Anfeh, Lebanon on the 30-31 May-1 June 2013.

• The 13th International Congress of Lebanese Dental Association, Beirut that is taking place at Lebanese University of Beirut on the 27th of September 2013.

LSE is organizing the international meeting of the Arab Endodontic Association

• The 3rd Pan Arab Endodontic conference is organized by LSE at Hilton Habtoor from

the 28- 30th of November 2013.It will have the theme “Striving for excellence”. More than 600 participants are expected from more than fifteen countries all over the world.

Report of the British Endodontic Society 2013

As the BES enters its 50th

year of existence it is perhaps appropriate that this last year has

been one its’ most significant. Further to member consultation, and resolutions that were

passed at the AGM in 2012, the BES has now become a Charitable Company Limited by

Guarantee. This significant step was completed on 31st December 2012, and brings the

society into line with 21st century governance regulations for charitable organisations.

The society’s principles and aims, of course, remain unchanged, but this action has

provided the society with governance security that will stand it in good stead in its future

operational activities. Furthermore, the financial transparency and security of the society

has been enhanced by this move, especially in the eyes of the Charity Commission. The

final steps in transferring the majority of the society’s day-to-day financial dealings to an

external management source are taking place. The overall financial control for the

society of course remains with the council and the Honorary Treasurer, but these

measures not only streamline the society’s financial management, but also bring them

into line with current financial regulations. I would like yet again to thank Mr. Steven

Cawte for all his hard work and diligence throughout the last year in ensuring that this

transition proceeded as smoothly as possible.

With these important steps completed the BES can more effectively turn its attention to

strategic matters that can benefit its’ members, and the larger endodontic community.

This year the BES council has endeavoured to find ways to promote the society, and

endodontics, to a larger dental community including, especially, undergraduates,

foundation trainees and postgraduate students. Hopefully this can be achieved via both

personal and electronic means. Steps are also in place to instigate endodontic treatment

seminars under the BES banner, and delivered by BES personnel. Considerable

development of the society’s website has also been achieved, with the inclusion of an

enhanced patient information section, complete with animated treatment guides. The

website is a considerable resource, and continues to be visited by members, and non-

members alike.

The society continues to award a multitude of prizes and financial grants. Set up support

for endodontic study groups continues to attract applications, and the BES is currently

supporting several endodontic research projects, with an annual research grant budget of

£15K per year. Initial discussions are ongoing within BES council on the possibility of

instigating a BES led, countrywide research project that would involve the participation

of BES members. The society has also been in discussions that may lead to the

establishment of a postgraduate qualification in endodontics for dental nurses. BES

continues to support an annual meeting for teachers in endodontology.

The society’s annual meetings continue to be successful and well attended. Over the last

five years attendance has continued to grow at both the Regional and Spring Scientific

meetings. The attendance of postgraduate delegates has especially been noted as growing,

a trend that can only bode well for the continued reputation of the society as an

educational provider. The Spring meeting of 2012 entitled “To Infinity and Beyond” was

delivered by two world renowned speakers, Prof John Davies and Prof Markus

Haapasolo. The Regional meeting in Bristol was particularly well received, especially

with the introduction of a session of endodontic masterclasses. These smaller group

seminars proved very popular, and the interactive nature of the presentations was

positively commented on in feedback information. Thanks must be extended to all the

presenters and to the organizing President Mr. Simon Cunnington for his enthusiastic

support. The society is looking forward to greeting its membership at the Regional

Meeting in Birmingham, 15th and 16

th November 2013.

It is always my duty and pleasure to extend my thanks to all the members of BES and its

council who have given their support over the last year. There have been substantial

organizational changes and challenges that have been addressed, and council members

give up a considerable amount of their valuable time to make these changes possible. It

is a pleasure to see that members continue to put themselves forward for election to BES

council to contribute to the continued success of the society.

In particular, the society’s Administrator, Mrs Annabel Thomas deserves special mention

for her considerable hard work over the last year. Annabel has been an indispensible

worker for the society for many years, but has been particularly busy in 2012 with all the

operational changes that have taken place. On behalf of the BES I extend my grateful

thanks to her, and look forward to working with her in the future in an enhanced

operational role.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this report, the BES is entering its 50th year of

existence. I am confident that today the society is in a more secure position, both from an

organizational and financial perspective, than it has ever been before, and that it will be at

the forefront of UK endodontics for very many years to come.
