STEVEN vsRAINBOWDarcy Evans This is the future.Today is a regularday on Jupiter witheveryone cheerful.

There was a boy named Steven whohad brown straight hair and blue eyes,

a round nose and a miniature mouth. He lived in a house with his Mum andDad. All of a sudden they heard arobotic noise. They all looked out oftheir window when they saw biggooey rainbow aliens attacking theirneighbours. “Hide in the cupboard!”yelled his Dad. Steven did as he wastold. His parents grabbed theirconcwhers (laser knifes) and ranoutside. They tried to destroy thealiens. Steven left the cupboard aslight bit open so he could watch hisparents kick butt but he witnessed hisMum being shot in the head as wellas his Dad being stabbed in thestomach. He now was sobbing in thecupboard. He saw the general on TV.He said that anyone still alive couldvolunteer to become a super hero.He thought that he could become oneto avenge his parents so he ranoutside and to the general’s hideoutdodging every bullet that came athim. At the base he witnessed thegeneral and said he wanted tovolunteer. The general noddedfollowed by bringing him to a giantmachine where he told him to hopinside. Steven hopped in and when itwas turned on he felt a tingling in hisveins and he saw flashes of lightningeverywhere. When it stopped hestumbled out and he was floating. The general told him, “This must beyour first power. Let’s find out yourother powers”. Steven nodded andthen he was taken to a room and thegeneral said to make afist. Steven made a fist and anenormous shot of lighting cameout and it made a big hole in theground. The general told Steven toopen his mouth as wide as possible.A huge flash of thunder and lightningcame out of his mouth. Next thegeneral said to put his hands togetherand slowly pull them apart. WhenSteven did it a big electric ball formedand Steven threw it as hard as hecould. The general said that it wasenough for now and told him to fightthe aliens. When he saw the firstalien, he made a fist at it, then

Page 28: ETHAN GREEN AILIN LUI - COIMADAI PRIMARY SCHOOL · year 2 flowers ... jodie silberthau samuel thomas frankie kupshik lachy davis gardenvale art gallery gardenvale art gallery

electricity came out and the alienexploded in an instant. Next he saw agroup of aliens so Steven opened hismouth as wide as possible and whenhe closed it there was a pile of gooleft on the ground. Next he saw ahuge mother ship. He had to find theengine and destroy it so he just keptshooting the side of the ship with hiselectric ball until there. He tried toshoot it but its technology was arainbow so he combined all the thingshe learnt and used it. It was justenough to break the engine and theship came down in a ball of fire. Theship landed on the whole alien kind.He had saved his planet. His parentswould be proud. The general tookcare of Steven for the rest of his life.

WHY BATSHAVE WINGS Caleb VeitchIn the Dreamtime, bats were withoutwings. Bats wouldwalk on two legs like

men. Bats lived in a dark cave allalone. But there was a problem. Batswere not fast enough to get food onthe ground before other animals. Thisday, Bat was starving in fact he wasvery, very hungry. He looked andlooked but he didn’t find food. ThenBat smelled some fruit high up in thetrees. He became sad because hereally wanted food but he couldn’treach it. Then he saw an old birdunder a tree that was dying. He saidto Bat, “this is my present to you.” It's a pair of wings.” Bat put them onthen he flew up to the trees and gotthe fruit. “Be careful and don’t breakthem”, said the bird. Then he died.Bat was so happy with his wings so

he decided to fly to the furthest treehe could find and back to his cave. And that is the story of how Bats gottheir wings.

THE THREE LITTLEFROGS AND THEBIG BAD DOGJacob RamirezOnce upon a time, there were three littlefrogs that lived in a

swamp. One day the big bad dogcame to the swamp. The frogs cameout of the tree for the big bad dog. Hesaw the three little frogs, then the bigbad dog chased the three little frogswho left and went hiding. Then theycame out of the tree. They madehouses. One little frog made a leafhouse. The second little frog made astick house and the third little frogmade a metal house. The big baddog went to the leaf house. He said,“I will eat your house”. The little frogscreamed. The second little frog wasin the stick house. The big bad dogwent to the stick house. He said, “Iwill eat your house”. The little frogscreamed. The third little frog was inthe metal house. The two little frogswent to the third little frog. The bigbad dog arrived at the third little frogshouse and said, “I will eat yourhouse”. He bit the house, his teeth fellout and he never came back.

THE WATER CYCLETaylah Watt The Water Cycleexplains how water istaken from the seaand how it eventuallybecomes rain. The

sun makes the water warm and turnsthe water into an invisible gas that iscalled vapour. The water goes intothe cloud and makes water droplets. The droplets then turn to raindropsand the cloud overflows with water. This is how rain is formed. When thecloud gets heavy the cloud travelsback to the ocean and the processcontinues. If it rains too much then itwould become a flood. Sometimes itrains too much and a flood occurs.

broke tradition, and sacrificed her lifefor her Dad’s. With her sidekick,Mushu the red dragon, she got intothe Chinese Army. She cracked up aplan to defeat the Huns and save theEmperor. I played a father and asoldier, and I was part of theAvalanche Team. I was in ‘Written inStone’ (the opening number), Make aMan Out of You, the Avalanche scene,The Procession and the ClosingNumber. My costume was grey-silver,with dim red pants and a straw hat. Before the performance I was feelinggiddy and nervous. It was an excitingmusical, and my first one too! When Ifinally stepped on stage, mynervousness washed away. I tried notto smile, keep a straight face, andstay in character. I was so excited Ikept biting my tongue. I was alsonervous in the avalanche, worried thatI’d get the avalanche cloth twisted. The audience loved our showbecause of the hard work we all putinto the rehearsals. Mr Mason workedso hard with us and it was great! If wedidn’t work as hard as we did, theshow would not have been nearly asgood. I thank everyone for giving mea great first impression on musicals. Itwas so much fun, and my parentsenjoyed it very much.

serious about music and really wanteda guitar I would find a way to save mypocket money and buy a guitar. Theywould then pay for me to havelessons. I have cut lawns and washedcars and finally after checking out theguitar I wanted and talking to Markwho is now teaching me guitar, Imanaged to buy this fantastic redguitar. I am not finding it too hardlearning the cords and I like to practiceas often as possible. Mark can alsoplay piano and he writes music andsongs. One day when I am goodenough I am going to try and get onThe Voice. I like watching that showbecause it gives people a chance tobe seen and heard all aroundAustralia. I would like to make musicmy career. Mum and Dad keen tellingme that lots of people want the samething but only a few succeed. Theyhave also said they will support me aslong as I work hard at school and havea second career choice in mind.

THE ZOONoel PerkinsWe went to the Zoolast week and a ladytold us about thedifferent animals. Itwas a really good day

and I took a lot of photos. The Apesand Monkey’s were ace and I likedwatching the elephants. They knowhow to get extra food from people. Wetook our lunch and lay on the lawn asit was a sunny day.

'NNOOO!!!" I yelled thinking that Mumhad put the baby's dirty nappy in mylunch bag. I never knew what myMum would pack each day. Out ofcuriosity I stuck my tongue out totaste it, my eyes were squinting andmy nose was wrinkled but I tasted thebaby poo. It tasted bitter and sweet –it was Mustard just like I put on myHot Dogs at the Footy.

Written by 6W GirlsRattle, rattle went the newspaper asI placed my hand in the lunch bag.As my nose got close to the bag myeyes watered like there was a rawonion inside. My hand touchedsomething that felt rough on theoutside and slimy on the other side.I started to heave. My first thoughtwas I was touching snot. I ran for thebin. My fingers began to sting, thenI realised I had felt this feeling before.I licked my fingers. It was a lemon!

In class we learned about Imageryand the five senses. We useddifferent types of food and we had toclose our eyes to touch, smell, feeland taste. Then we had to write aboutwhat we smelt, felt, tasted andtouched. Some people were veryclever and used similes. It was fun and different. We thenworked in small groups to write thefollowing descriptions.

Written by 6W BoysAs silence filled the air I reluctantlyplaced my hand in the lunch bag.I had butterflies in my stomach asI reached down further, I thoughtI was never going to reach the bottomof that bag. Then to my surpriseI touched something that felt wet, slimyand awful. As I pulled my hand out ofthe bag I could smell vinegar but myfinger tip was the colour of baby poo.

The Old Dented White VanJack DurhamRrrrrrrrrrrrrt!! !!!!!! !!Went the brakeson the car. It pulled up on the side ofthe road because a child needed togo to the toilet. The father hadforgotten the child and accidentlydriven off. Suddenly a big, old, dinted, white van parked in front of the child."Creeeek!" went the door as itopened. The lost child stepped in andhe saw Hairy James, a cranky oldlady, a wild man and Super Mouse. The lost child sat down next to HairyJames and the crank old lady. Theystared at him with wide eyes. The lostchild asked if he could have musicon, Super Mouse took the wheel andhe put on fart noises, Hairy James dida real fart, next to the child. Pooof! Itsmelled like grotty old cheese. I couldeven see it going all around inside thevan scrunching up the fluff on the rooflike fire was burning it. Suddenly thechild looked out the window and sawhis Mum and Dad's car sitting on theside of the road without any sight ofthem. The child suspiciously looked ateveryone in the old van. Theyappeared in Zombie Ville. It was timefor the cranky old lady's turn to drive. The cranky old lady engaged thearmour system. The cranky old ladydrove very slowly and bang boom!Army zombies were throwingdangerous brown boulders on top oftall gigantic buildings but the ladysafely drove out of Zombie Ville.Suddenly Hairy James was growinghis hair faster and faster but the oldlady was catching a fever! SuperMouse quickly got out the first aid kitand scissors, there was a specialbright pink medicine.

Quickly Super Mouse gave the childthe medicine and the old sick ladydrank the medicine and 20 minuteslater the old lady was starting to getbetter. But then the child noticed theold lady was the child's Mum. Then itwas James turn to have his haircut.Super Mouse gave the scissors to thewild man and wildly he cut HairyJames hair and when it was finishedHairy James wasn't Hairy James anymore he was the child's Dad. WhenSuper Mouse noticed he drove themhome, and lived ever after.

Should Children have to doHomework?????

Aidan EveringhamDo you really think having homeworkis fun? If you do you must be crazy!!It will be easy to find out that doinghomework is not fun. Play and familytime are far more important to lifethan homework. I think we shouldhave family time because you get tofind out their background. I think weshould have play because playing isexciting. I think we should not dohomework because it wastes ink. Doyou think we should do homework?Homework means we are sitting on achair and being inactive. Do you thinkthis is a good thing? Our playtimewould be much better spent on sport.Exercise keeps us healthy and fit.Playing sport helps us develop skillssuch as social skills, co-ordinationand teamwork. Do you really want tomiss out on this because ofhomework? I don't think so!

SHOULD CHILDREN HAVE TO DOHOMEWORK?Star McKenzieAre you positive that homework isnecessary?I bet you that kids prefer to do craft, sport and time with friends ratherthan do dumb homework. If youbelieve that children should dohomework you must be totally crazy. Iwill explain why.It will soon become so obvious to youthat homework is totally notnecessary.Craft and friends are way moreimportant to life than boringhomework. Children develop socialskills when they play with friends butwhen they do homework they all getcooped up inside. When kids do craftthey express themselves but withhomework it's a different matter. Kidsjust get stuck with the some boringsubjects. Craft and friends areawesome and fun. Homework isboring and bland.Homework means we're sitting on achair but when we do sport we'rerunning, jumping and getting fit, active and healthy. Do you really wantus to spend our time on a chair? Ourfree time could be so much betteroutside playing sport with our friends.Would you rather us be happy playingsport or be miserable doinghomework. Playing sport teaches uslots of skills like social skills and co-ordination skills. Are you positive thatyou really want us to miss out on fun

things like this for some dumbhomework?Sitting, studying Uh how BORING.A tiny amount of people in the worldthink that homework has some actualbenefits. They say that the benefitsare things like it gives you revision onthings you have already learnt andyou get to learn things that yourteacher might get to teach you inclass. If we didn't have homework wewould have time to do awesomethings instead we've got disgustinghomework.Fun, friends, Family or homework it'sobvious which are more important.Fun, friends, family.Homework is as boring as watchingan apple tree grow. Children shouldabsolutely not do homework.

I REALLY WANT A MOBILE PHONEMekayla PeacockDear Mum and DadI really want a mobile phone.I promise I will look after it and I won'task for another thing.I'm really mature. I really want amobile phone badly it will help mewith my homework when you're busy.It can also be used for my safety likeif I go to my friend's house you canring to make sure I got there safety.I deserve one because I do what I'mtold and I take the rubbish out, cleanthe vacuum all those things. I will payfor it by doing chores like the dishes, laundry, vacuuming and cleaning myroom. So please can I get a mobilephone because I really want one?
