LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Sweeping through their trip to the West Coast, East Texas Baptist University won their second straight game finishing up with a 2-0 record in California delivering a 19-point win over Cal Tech, 76-57. Now at 3-1 on the year, ETBU opens American Southwest Conference play on Tuesday hosting LeTourneau University at 5:30 p.m.

ETBU had four players in double figures on day two in California as Amber Carver put in a career-high 20 points with eight rebounds in just 20 minutes of play. April Leonard added 15 points with six assists and seven steals while Amanda Rucker had 12 points and six rebounds. Kaitlyn Packett netted a career-high 10 points in 13 minutes of play. For Cal Tech, Stephanie Wong led her team with 16 points.The defense was a big success for ETBU forcing 28 turnovers and out rebound-ing Cal Tech, 37-28. ETBU had 19 steals and two blocks in the game, too.

Carver started the game with a banked lay-up and then Leonard canned a three-pointer for a 5-0 lead as ETBU never looked back in the game. Cal Tech was within three, 9-6, at the 16:51 mark when ETBU went on a 23-8 run over 10 min-utes for a 32-14 lead with 7:05 left in the half. Rucker, Carver, and Leonard all had four points each in the run. ETBU then took a 39-23 lead at the half.

Just over two minutes into the second half, Sade’ Murrell made a jump shot to put ETBU up by 20, 45-25. Cal Tech brought the lead down to 10, 45-35, with 14:36 left in the game only to see ETBU put out a 12-6 run in two and half minutes extending the lead back to 16, 57-41. Once again, ETBU went up by 20 points, 65-45, at the 6:45 mark on a Packett bucket for their second 20-point lead of the second half. ETBU kept their lead between 18 to 22 points in the final five min-utes as they went on for the 76-57 win. ETBU shot 47% from the floor, 29% from arc, and 66% from foul line. Cal Tech finished shooting 37% from the floor, 36% from the three-point line, and 83% from the free throw line.
