April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. It is most appropriate that National child Abuse Pre-

vention Month is during the Lenten and Easter sea-sons. There is no better time to help heal those harmed by abuse and neglect, to reflect on the importance of child safe-ty, and to renew our promise to protect our most valuable gift from God- our children. Thank you to Andrew Coulter and John McMahon who are engaged in faith formation and manage our “Safe Environment” program. Thanks to all who have taken the training from the Office of Safe Environment of the Diocese of Burlington. The training is mandated for all who are working with children. Please contact them with your questions con-cerning “safe environment”. On April 19

th at 7:00pm, there will be an Evening

Prayer for Healing to take place at Christ the King Church in Burlington. I hope that you can join me there for this service. Materials concerning ‘safe environment’ including a Prayer for Healing-Victims of Abuse prayer card and the Promise to Protect/Pledge to Heal brochures are available at the en-trances to the churches. Today we celebrate the Fifth Sunday of Lent. Our Lenten theme is “Open our eyes to your gift”. Our Lenten symbol this week is a plant which symbolizes New Life or branches with buds. My prayer is that this Lent is a means for you to renew the life of the Holy Spirit which dwells in you. Many parishioners have been asking me when they will receive the new Essex Catholic Community Pictorial Di-rectory. There is a committee working on it and they have informed me that it should be ready by the end of May. All of us are looking forward to enjoying their work. Thanks for be-ing patient.

Take time to prepare for and reflect on the most important time of the liturgical year: the Sacred Triduum. Join Josh Perry, Director of the Office of Worship for the Diocese of Burlington, for a Holy Week mini-retreat unpacking the sym-bols of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil.

Explanation of the Scrutinies: Scrutiny #3 /7:30PM Mass @ HF Church /Apr. 2 The “Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults” is the Church’s pro-cess of welcoming new members into the Catholic Church via the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, & Eucharist. This year we have: (1) Catechumen (seeking Baptism, Confirmation, & Eucharist) & (4) Candidates (already Baptized) seeking Full Communion with the Church. Today, we will celebrate the 3rd & final of these ancient rituals called the Scrutinies. The Scrutinies are rituals intended to encourage self-searching & repentance among the Elect (those to be baptized) & all of us present to-day. The ritual includes a prayer of exorcism. The scrutinies are meant to uncover, and then heal all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the hearts of the elect; to bring out, and then strengthen all that is upright, strong, and good. From the first to the final scrutiny, the elect progress in their perception of sin and their desire for salvation.

Day the Revolution Began: What did the Passion of the

Christ do for the world?” with Fr. Peter O’Leary. The workshop

hall, Williston, Saturday morning, April 8th from 7:45 to

10:15 am. This is a FREE program and will include a complimen-

tary continental breakfast sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

Welcome to Our Seder

Join us on April 12th @ 6PM, Holy Family Parish Center

This ritual meal commemorating the events of the Exodus is

aimed to transmit the story to future generations regarding

the central event in Jewish history. The Exodus story per-

tains to all persons, since it tells of the right of all persons to

be free. In the Christian tradition, the Passover Seder is,

also believed, to be when Jesus instituted the Eucharist.

Gathered around the supper table with his disciples, Jesus

told them, "I have longed to eat this Passover with you be-

fore I suffer; because I tell you, I shall not eat it again until it

is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God". This Seder meal is ac-

companied by; commentary, prayers, songs, and a potluck

meal. Since the Seder is a commemoration of the Exodus

story, it is strongly recommended, that prior to the celebra-

tion all participants read and reflect on the scripture account

of this event, which is found in the book of Exodus chapters

7 - 13. Reflection upon it will greatly enhance the celebra-

tion of the Seder. More information will be included in the

next bulletin. Your Faith in Action Committee
