ERAE MC HE Kc

The air condensed chillers ERAE MC HE Kc series are suitable for outdoor installation. They are providedwith axial fans in composite material, highly efficient plate finned exchangers and scroll compressors withorbiting spirals, running with one or two independent cooling circuits (with R410A) in single, tandem or trioconfiguration. The multi-scroll technology allows to reach a visible improvement of the partial loadefficiency if compared to other traditional cooling or heating power control systems. These units are usedfor cooling of liquid solutions circulating in the conditioning plants or liquids for industrial processes.Production of hot water it’s available with the additional heat recovery heat exchanger. All the units havebeen designed considering necessity to minimize overall dimensions keeping high performances and outputcooling and heating capacities. All the units are totally factory assembled and tested following specificquality procedures and are already provided with all the cooling, hydraulic and electric connectionsrequired for a quick installation on site. Before the test, all the cooling circuits for each unit are leakagetested under pressure and then charged with refrigerant R410a and anti-freeze oil.

Construction features.

Thanks to the applied design technology, chillers are able to control with high precision the outlet fluidtemperature from the exchanger (user’s side), modulating the cooling or heating capacity to the plant’srequirement, all automatically managed by the on-board microprocessor. High technology used in designstage, as well as the use of the best components present on market, make the units very reliable and thusable to work for long periods without stop. These units are particularly easy for installation even in limitedspaces and easily accessible for ordinary and extraordinary maintenance on the front part of the unit.

Frame.

The structure is made of base and frame manufactured in high-thickness galvanized steel elements,assembled with stainless steel rivets. All the external galvanized steel surfaces are powder-coated withcolor RAL7035.The structural elements are fixed firmly making the frame very strong and able to support all the unitcomponents and absorb any mechanical stress due to handling and running of the unit. The technicalcompartments of electric board and compressors are completely closed and separated from the airflow.The external panels of technical compartments are easily dismountable and positioned laterally assuringtotal accessibility to the main components. Moreover, the components are arranged inside the structure ina way to make easy and safe necessary service operations while running and also maintenance of the unit .

Compressors.

High efficiency scroll compressors with orbiting spirals (EER 3,37 at ARI conditions) for refrigerant R410A,with direct start motors with low sound level, equipped with incorporated thermistor protection withmanual reset that protects motors from overloading. The compressors in single, tandem or trioconfiguration are installed on rubber vibration dampers, charged with polyester oil and equipped with oil

crankcase heater. For the units with 2 cooling circuits, if there is a problem on one of two circuits, it isanyway granted the operation of the unit at 50% of its nominal cooling capacity. During the unit running atpartial loads, the on-board microprocessor is able to manage start and stop of the compressors in order toassure the necessary capacity, working at maximum values of efficiency.

Axial fans.

The fans, serving external heat-exchange coils, are of axial type, with directly coupled three-phase electricalmotor, with IP 54 protection degree, class F, and provided with internal thermal protection to the electricalmotor winding. The blades are made of aluminum and their particular profile geometry is designed tominimize the turbulences in the zone of air separation (reducing in this way the sound level and increasingefficiency). Each fan is equipped with suction opening and protection grid against accidents, painted afterconstruction. In the ultra-silenced version, available only in chiller mode, it is possible to require axial fanswith electronic commutation that allow constant speed regulation through the 0-10 V signal, managedcompletely from microprocessor. With the fans of this type, the air flow to the heat-exchange coil isregulated more accurately and this allows to the unit to run with the external air temperatures to -20°C,keeping high efficiency of the cycle.

Condenser heat exchanger.

The condenser section is made up of aluminum heat exchangers with micro-channel technology, withproper spacing in order to avoid easy air flow obstructions due to the pollen or other suspended agents.The surface of fins pack can be appropriately protected by removable grids against impacts or hailstormevents .On special request it is possible to make coils with special rust-proof treatment (double layer epoxycoating - Termoguard).The air flow to the exchangers is ensured by the axial fans connected directly to the motors with externalrotor with low number of rotations. This flow can be modulated with regard to condensation pressure inorder to ensure the correct pressure drop on the thermostatic control device of refrigerant flow to theevaporator.

Evaporator heat exchanger.

User’s side exchanger of plate type realized with AISI 316, with single or double circuit, with channels andpatented distributor which allow to reach an high heat exchange coefficient. Their design helps a uniformwater distribution compatibly with the pressure drops. It is supplied with close cells insulating materialcovering. Moreover the exchanger is provided with a safety water flow switch that doesn’t allow the unitoperation in case of low water flow to the exchanger. The maximum running pressure is 45 barg on freonside.

Electric board and on-board microprocessor.

Electric board is built in compliance with norms in force, realized inside a metal compartment integratedinside the cabinet of the unit, protection degree IP54, suitable for outdoor installation and separated fromair flow. Inside the electric board with 3–phase and 400 V electric supply, are placed all the components ofthe control system, power and control electric devices and devices required for motors start. Electric boardcontains microprocessor electronic board provided with keyboard and display to show available functions,

lock-door main switch, anti-condensing electric heater of thermostat, isolation transformer to feed auxiliarycircuits, automatic switches, fuses and contactors for compressors and fans motors, terminals forcumulative alarms and remote ON/OFF, control terminal box of spring type, possibility of interface withBMS management systems.The unit control system is integrated in the electronic microprocessor, installed inside the electric board.The microprocessor consists of electronic control board (complete with terminals for transmission ofoperating parameters) and an interface board for user (equipped with programming buttons and graphicdisplay for visualization of operation states and alarm messages).

Cooling circuits.

The cooling equipment of the unit is interconnected through pure copper piping. All the welding joints aremade through a braze welding process and in inert ambient with double weld material pass. Each coolingcircuit is finally tested with double pressure test. The first test is made before the performance testwhereas the second one is made before the unit shipping. During these tests besides the mechanicaltightness, a further control of the tightness through leak detection using suitable highly sensible tools ismade. In the units with two cooling circuits, the circuits are independent and if there is a problem on one oftwo circuits, it is anyway granted the operation of the unit at 50% of its nominal characteristics. Each circuitis complete with service valve for refrigerant charging, anti-freeze probe, shut-off valve on liquid line, liquidand humidity sight glass, dehydrating filter, safety valve on refrigerant high pressure side, and thermostaticexpansion valve, high and low pressure switches and gauges.

COOLING CIRCUITS AND HYDRONIC DIAGRAM FOR ERAE MC Kc.

The cooling circuit of vapor compression type is composed of SCROLL hermetic compressors, charged withpolyester oil, thermostatic expansion valve, dehydrating filter, liquid sight glass, safety valve with directedoutlet, placed on the condensation side, mechanical safety pressure switches against overloading withmanual reset, high and low pressure gauges for refrigerant and shut-off valves on liquid line (on request ondischarge and suction of compressor).The compressors are SCROLL compressors with orbiting spirals. They can run in single, tandem or trioconfiguration on one or two totally independent circuits. The new constructive technologies, applied inrealization of these compressors, allow them to operate within very extended temperature limits, keepinghigh values of volumetric efficiency too.For protection of electric motor there is an electronic module equipped with thermistors in the statorwinding, the function of which is monitoring of their temperature. If the temperature overcomes the fixedlimit, the electronic module interrupts electric supply of the compressor’s motor. In order to recover therunning conditions the manual reset is necessary. The compressors are supplied with oil crankcase heaterfor oil heating and are installed on vibration dampers.The liquid line is equipped with shut-off valve, dehydrating filter with interchangeable solid cartridge,purposely designed for specific applications on R410a plants, thermostatic expansion valve properly sizedand able to control the overheating to the compressor even in different running conditions.On demand, the unit can be equipped with condensing heat recovery exchangers, partial or total (option RPor RT). The last one is activated in parallel to the main air condenser.

AVAILABLE OPTIONS:

A Amperometer: Electrical device to measure the electrical current absorbed by the unit.ACP Anti-corrosive protection of the condensing coils (AIAX coating): Flooding painting of the

exchanger surface by application of resin suitable to ensure a protection againstatmospheric agents, for installations in highly corrosive environments in industrial areaswith high concentration of pollutant (>100 ppm) and urban areas with high levels ofatmospheric pollution (> 125 ug/m3). This is a valid alternative to the well known Blygold orThermoguard protections.

AE Electrical power supply different than standard: 230 V three-phase, 460 V three-phase.Frequency 50/60 Hz.

BT Low external air temperature operation: Electronic device of phase cut-off type for themodulating control of the condensing pressure through the variation of the fan rotationspeed which allows the functioning of the unit till - 8°C of external air temperature(Alternative to BF and EC).

BF Electronic device, frequency converter type (inverter), for the continuous modulatingcontrol of the condensing pressure through the variation of the fan rotation speed, whichallows the functioning till -20°C of external air temperature (Alternative to BT and EC).

CF Soundproofed compressors cabinet with standard material: Insulation of compressors by acabinet coated with 25 mm thick sound and fireproofing material.

CFU Soundproofed compressors cabinet with higher thickness material: Compressor insulationwith high-density sound and fireproofing materials of higher thickness.

CS Compressors inrush counter: Electromechanical device positioned inside the electricalboard, recording the total inrush starts of compressors.

EC Axial fans with electronic commutation: highly efficient, made of composite material, withexternal rotor directly coupled to a three-phase electronically commutated motor (EC),allow continuous regulation of speed by means of a 0-10V signal, completely managed bythe microprocessor. Thanks to a more accurate adjustment of air flow, they allow operationof the unit with external temperature till - 20 °C (Alternative to BT and BF).

GP Protection grid for condensing coil: Painted metal grid to protect against accidentalimpacts.

GP1 Anti-intrusion grid: Metal protection grid to protect compressors and exchangers.IH RS 485 Serial interface: Electronic card to be connected to the microprocessor to allow

connection of the units to external supervision systems, for remote control and monitoringof the unit (Alternative to IH LON and IWG).

IH-LON Serial interface for LON protocol: Electronic card to be connected to the microprocessorto allow connection of the units to supervision systems with LON protocol, for a remotecontrol and monitoring of the unit (Alternative to IH and IWG).

IM Sea-wood packing: Fumigated sea-wood case and protection bag with hygroscopic salts,suitable for long sea transports.

IWG SNMP or TCP/IP Protocol serial interface: Electronic card to be connected to themicroprocessor to allow connection of the units to supervision systems with SNMP orTCP/IP protocol, for a remote control and monitoring of the unit (Alternative to IH or IHLON).

MF Phase monitor: Electronic device that checks the correct sequence and/or the lack of one ofthe 3 phases, switching off the unit if necessary.

PA Rubber-type vibration dampers: Bell-shaped vibration damping supports for isolating theunit on the support base frame (supplied in kit), made of base and bell in galvanized ironand natural rubber mixture.

PCP Anti-corrosive protection of the condensing coils (powder coating): Painting of theexchanger surface by application of a black colored epoxy resin suitable to ensure aprotection against atmospheric agents, for coastal installations, industrial environmentswith an average concentration of pollutant (< 100 ppm) and urban areas with lower middlelevels of atmospheric pollution (< 125 ug/m3).

PM Spring-type vibration dampers: Spring-type vibration damping supports, for isolating theunit on the support base frame (supplied in kit), mainly indicated for installation in difficultand aggressive environments. Made of two containing plates and a suitable quantity ofharmonic steel springs.

PQ Remote display: Remote display allows visualization of the temperature values detected byprobes, digital alarm inputs, outputs and remote ON/OFF of the unit, modification andprogramming of the parameters, signaling and visualization of the present alarms.

RA Anti-freeze heater on evaporator: Electrical heater installed inside the evaporator, in orderto prevent freezing, equipped with independent thermostat.

RD Shut-off valve on compressors discharge side: Used to isolate compressors during serviceoperations.

RF System of power factor correction cosfi≥0,9: Electrical device composed of appropriateelectric capacity for power factor correction of the compressors , ensuring a cosphi value≥0,9, so to reduce the reactive power absorption from the electrical network.

RH Shut-off valve on suction side: Used to isolate compressors during service operations.RL Compressors overload relays: Electromechanical protection devices against compressors

overload.RP Partial heat recovery: (about 20%) of condensing heat through a refrigerant/water plate

exchanger (desuperheater) always in series to the compressors. It is used when it isnecessary to recover partially condensing heat for production of sanitary hot water.

RT Total heat recovery: recovery (100%) of condensing heat through refrigerant/water heatexchanger managed in commutation to the condensing air section (introduced in parallel).It is used when it is necessary to recover completely condensing heat for production ofsanitary hot water or for heating applications.

V Voltmeter: Electronic device measuring electrical voltage of the unit power supply.VB Brine Version: Unit suitable for working with evaporator outlet water temperatures lower

than 0°C. A 20 mm evaporator insulation is provided.VS Solenoid valve: Electromagnetic solenoid valve on each cooling circuit to cut off the liquid

line at compressors stop.
