environmental testing
State-of-the-art technology and increased demands for product and component reliability have intensified the need for advanced environmental testing.
Vipac is a NATA accredited, ISO 17025 compliant, fully independent testing laboratory. Our Environmental Testing Centres of Excellence offer a broad range of vibration, pressure and climatic testing capabilities.
We test to a wide range of international, industry and client specific standards and provide services to many market sectors including:
• Motor vehicle
• Automotive components
• Rail
• Aerospace electronic equipment
• Defence electronic equipment
• Medical devices
• Consumer and electronic devices (mobile phones, radio systems etc.)
• Industrial components (controllers, actuators, etc.)
• Packaging (pharmaceutical, food and beverage, consumer products etc.)
Vipac offers a variety of test facilities for a broad range of testing requirements including:
• Vibration and shock testing
• Combined temperature and vibration testing
• Temperature and humidity testing
• Water and dust ingress protection testing
• Driving sand and dust testing
• Salt corrosion testing
• Solar irradiation testing
• Drop testing
• Hardness testing
• Flammability testing
• Chemical resistance and exposure testing
• Structural load testing
• Testing to client specific requirements.

Vipac is contracted by many companies to provide confidential testing services to a wide range of standards including:
Other Tests
• High intensity acoustic tests – up to 145dB
• Explosive de-compression tests
• Rain and moisture leakage tests
• Salt fog test
• Sand and dust penetration tests to most customer’s requirements and for any product – small parts up to container size
• Bounce tests – for packaging and transport of goods.
As well as testing to industry and regulatory standards, our experience and capabilities are employed by clients to develop testing regimes as part of their product development cycle.
Vehicle and automotive component tests can be carried out to automotive standards such as those of Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi and Toyota.
environmental testing
Accelerated life testing enables faults to be discovered in a short amount of time helping to minimise failures in the field and costly recalls. It also helps with prediction of service life and maintenance intervals.
Vipac have extensive environmental testing facilities including:
Environmental chambers
• Twelve climatic chambers
• Volume 0.25m3 to 56m3
• Temperature ranges -64°C to +130°C
• Relative humidity 5% to 98%
• Dust, Water Ingress and Salt Spray environmental chambers
• Three altitude chambers
Vibration
• Seven shakers from 8 to 60kN
• Up to 50mm displacement
Shock
• Five shock machines up to 1200G
• 901D light weight and medium weight shock
Mechanical
• Three mechanical fatigue testers up to 100kN
Conditions can be controlled to tight tolerances in Vipac’s environmental chambers:
• The Environmental Test Chamber, measuring 14m long x 5.5m wide and 4.5m high, is certified to test through a temperature range from -5°C to +60°C and humidity from 40% to 95%. It incorporates a 30 lamp CSI solar simulator, allowing any sunlight condition to above 1120W/m2 to be reproduced. Diurnal cycling can also be conducted.
• The High Temperature Chamber (2.2m x 2m x 2m) provides for testing from ambient to 250°C.
• The Balanced Temperature and Humidity Chamber (3m x 3m x 3m) allows testing from 20% to 95% relative humidity and from -80°C to +150°C.
• The Thermal Shock Chamber allows testing from -80°C to +220°C Various smaller chambers covering dry heat, humidity and temperature shock cycling for testing smaller products or parts.
