    Abstract

    Location: Porong Subdistrict, Sidoarjo,

    East Java, Indonesia

    Time : May 29th 2006 now

    Cause : Blowout of a natural gas well drilled by

    PT Lapindo Brantas Mud discharged : ca 50.000 120.000 m3/day,

    180.000 m3/day at peak. By 2013, the

    rate has fallen to between 15.000 and

    20.000 m3/day.

    Victims : 13 people died and nearly 50,000people were displaced. 16 villages in 3

    sub-districts (Porong, Jabon dan

    Tanggulangin) in Sidoarjo have been

    flooded by mud.

    OF MUDFLOW DISASTER

    Porong Sub-district

    A sub-district in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java Province,Indonesia

    Located between 112,5-112,9S, aproximately 6 kilometers

    from the capital city of Sidoarjo Regency, or 37 kilometers from

    Surabaya, the capital city of East Java Province.

    Consist of 19 villages.

    Sidoarjo Mud Flow was created by theblowout of a natural gas welldrilled by PT Lapindo Brantas, although

    company officials contend that it was

    caused by a distant earthquake.

    The cause triggered the eruption was

    controversy whether the event was anatural disaster or not.

    Cause of Sidoarjo Mud Flow

    Two days before the mud eruption,

    an earthquake of momentmagnitude 6.3 hit the south coast

    of Central Java and D.I Yogyakarta

    provinces killing 6,234 people and

    leaving 1.5 million homeless.
