George Orwell (20th century)

Animal Farm: Tells the story of farm animals who take over their human owners and establish an “equal society”. It is an allegory – critiques communism. (Babe, the brave pig?)

1984: Distopian novel of 1949, showing the manipulation of society, totalitarism and against independent thought “Big brother is watching you” ( V for Vendetta?)

George Orwell was very interested in Spain, fought in the International Brigade on the side of the Republic during the Civil War. Wrote Homage to Catalonia, about his experience in Spain during the Civil War
