What is English for Academic Purposes?

Offered at both our Brisbane and Gold Coast campuses, Langports’ English for Academic Purposes (EAP) combines IELTS Preparation and Academic English in an intensive course. This provides students the opportunity to improve their English skills and has the additional advantage of preparing them for further studies in Australia.

The course has been designed for delivery over 12 weeks, with the expectation that students will exit at an IELTS score which will allow them to meet the entry requirements of pathway institutions. Students are taught how to complete tasks and assignments expected at a university, including 2000 word academic essay and individual and group presentations.

Attendance at all classes is compulsory. EAP certificates are only awarded to students whose attendance is over 90%.

EAP course is the best choice for learners who:

will need to use English in a formal course academic setting

are adult students wanting to enter an award program at university or TAFE level

need to improve their English language proficiency

need to use and learn English in an English speaking environment

need to take the IELTS exam (usually in order to undertake further study in Australia)

have a limited amount of time for their learning

have a variety of expectations regarding formal course study
