The interviews for Mr Moreland’s class will not be held until early Term 3. Parents will need to book on line for interviews. There is information about this later in the newsletter. If you have any problems booking an interview time please contact your child’s teacher. Last year we introduced 3-way interviews for the students in years one to six. These were very successful and we will use the same model for these interviews. The only students who will not be involved in 3 way interviews are those in Early Learning. We believe that 3-way interviews have advantages for teachers, students and parents in the following ways: Teachers: Allows for shared responsibility of student learning and strengthens the communication channels. Students: Involves children in the learning process and allows them to take responsibility for their learning. It also empowers students to work to goals. Parents: Increases their understanding of learning and assessment. Allows parents to offer support and encouragement to their child. Allows parents to be an active participant in the learning process. Michael Grose gives this advice: Parent-teacher interviews provide a great opportunity for you as a parent to find out how your child is progressing at school. Many parent- teacher interviews are tightly scheduled and can seem a little rushed. Teachers are generally highly organised so they can make the most of the time you have together. It makes sense also for you as a parent to be prepared and ready to make the most of the brief time you have with teachers. Here are some guidelines to make the most of these interviews: 1. Prepare well. Before the interview, list any questions that you want to raise. Keep questions short and to the point. 2. Attend with a partner or friend particularly if you are nervous or unsure. It is easy to miss a point and often difficult to relay information to a partner. 3. Give the teacher a chance to make an assessment of your child’s progress. This may seem obvious but some interviews never get off the ground because enthusiastic parents take over. 4. Take notes and clarify information that you don’t understand. “What do you mean by ‘he needs to spend more time reading’...?” Make sure you have a good understanding of the messages your child’s teacher is giving. 5. Be prepared to give an assessment of your child’s performance. You may be asked how you think your child is performing so give an honest, but realistic assessment. 6. Ask how you can help your child if there are any areas that need to be strengthened. No doubt your child’s teacher will have some strategies for you to assist your child, so make sure you have a clear understanding before you leave.

If there are unresolved issues or you wish to discuss your child’s difficulties in greater detail, consider asking for another interview. This is being respectful of the teacher’s time and of those parents who are to follow. Carol Wyatt - Acting Principal

Sports News DIVISION CROSS COUNTRY Congratulations to the children who competed in the Division Cross country on Tuesday at the Yarra Glen Racecourse. The weather was quite cold but at least the rain stayed away during the races. Well done to Nathan K (MDB) who placed 9

th, and

Carli F (SRM) who came 11th in their races and have qualified to compete next week in the Eastern Region Cross Country

Competition, also held at Yarra Glen. Well done also to Sarah R (MDL) and Jarrod M (MDU) who also competed on Tuesday.

INTERSCHOOL SPORT Unfortunately last week the weather yet again stopped the Ringwood Districts Sports Associations going ahead with Interschool Sports across the 29 schools in the area. Even though there are some schools in the area, like us, who don’t need to play on council grounds, there are 21 other schools who do need to use the ovals on the Fridays. The Maroondah Council has closed the ovals because of the wet weather and the ovals being under water. This means that all rounds are cancelled, including ours.

HOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVAL The House Athletics is being held at the Croydon Athletics Track on the second Tuesday back next term, 23

rd July. All children

in years 3 – 6 will be expected to attend and have a go, just as they did with the House Cross Country. There will only be track events on the day. The winners on the day will be considered for the District Athletics Competition in early September. The field events for the District Athletics will be trialled during PE lessons in Term 3. Notices will go home shortly. Noreen McMenamen

WOOLWORTHS EARN & LEARN As you know, our school has been participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn program. The program has now finished for this year, so a big thanks to everyone who supported our school. We’re now at the important stage of the program where Points Sheets are collected and lodged as our Earn & Learn claim. We will then be able to get new educational equipment for our school. The more we collect, the more we can redeem. So this week please send in your Woolworths Earn & Learn Points Sheets and any loose Earn & Learn Points Stickers you may have. Remember to check your handbag, the car glove box or they may be stuck on the fridge. Every little bit helps. Thanks again for all your support!

CHAPS NEWS

Our Bogan Bingo fundraiser is coming up this Saturday 15th June at 7.30pm in the stadium, you can still book tickets but you need to do so by contacting Rachelle by 2.00pm tomorrow (her details are on the attached booking form). At $25.00 per ticket it is a reasonably priced night out, you are free to bring your own food and drink and there will be no additional fund raising on the night so there is no need to feel you are going to be asked to shell out more money. I have had some feedback that the thought of having to dress up is putting people off but be assured you do not have to dress up if you do not want to. From all accounts it is an absolutely hysterical nights and will no doubt be lots of fun. So please get behind it and support your school (and have a great time doing it!). We are in the process of organising a Prep disco for 2nd August from 5.30pm-7.00pm and will be providing the parents the opportunity to get to know each other a little more over drinks and finger food in the staff room whilst the children and having fun in the performing arts centre. So please mark this down on the calendar and we will send information home in the coming weeks. Don’t forget our suggestion box has been placed in the office area. Please feel free to add any feedback or suggestions you may have. Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 19th June at 9.15am in the conference room. We would love to see as many people there as possible as we will be discussing a number of important issues and would love your feedback.

If you have any questions at all about CHAPS, please do not hesitate to contact me. Justine Wratten – 0438-271948 CHAPS President
